I was really excited to try this place out as they've got amazing reviews.. I'm sorry to say that I was quite disappointed when I left. The one thing that I have to really give credit for though was their service – we showed up on a Saturday evening without a reservation, party of 6, and just took a shot in the dark to see if we could get seated. Although they were jam-packed for the night, they went out of their way and put together a table for us.
We ordered the double portion of guac made at your table which I would definitely skip next time. The single portion is supposed to serve 2-3 (1 avocado) so we ordered the double… while she was making it, she dropped half of the second one and just continued to go on her way to serve that to our table. Save your $23. The guac wasn't that great either; flavorless and I've had better guac at Chipotle.
The 6 of us went a little adventurous and ordered all different things off the menu and I have to say, for the most part everything came out hot and was not bad. We ordered the enchiladas, the fish dish (special of the day), carne asada, skirt steak, and the other fish dish I can't remember the name of.
All in all, I gave a 3 star for their service and their decor/ambience, it's a really nice date spot, but I wouldn't come here when I'm dying for some good Mexican food.
I was so excited to finally try the pricey food at Besitos since I have been to the location in Huntington a few times for drinks and guac. I decided, being restaurant week and my Dad's Birthday, I could take him out to dinner on a Thursday night. Thankfully I made reservations, by 7:30 there was at least 5 parties waiting to dine. Its in a little shopping/dinning center in Rosyln so a little different then the strip of bars in the other location I have visited.
We got there early to have a few drinks at the bar but for some reason they don't have a happy hour. They should, I mean what bar doesn't have some sort of special whether its a dollar off a beer or something like that but whatever no big deal. We each had a tequila in a sipper glass served with lime and side salt which is a nice touch.
We then went towards our table when we saw old friends having dinner themselves. Looks like this we chose a popular place. They don't have a separate restaurant menu which was weird but just a few up charges on some exceptions on the menu. Obviously the guacamole is on that list because its so popular so we decided to do our own three course combo. First came the free chips and salsa which was fresh. I wanted some on the lighter side for an appetizer so I ask for a salad which wasn't on the menu. The salad was great and the jicama provided a much needed crunch that a salad always needs. My Dad loved his steak tacos (2 per serving in the appetizer portion).
Next came our entrees, a perfect 10 minutes after we finished our appetizers. I had the iron skillet tacos and my Dad had the shrimp skewer entree. I took a bite of his and oh my God was it amazing. Sweet, sour, a little spice; it really hit all points. All entrees come with rice and beans which is fun to share. I ask for no cheese with my tacos which come with 4 small, like mini flour tortilla shells along with pico de gallo, grilled chicken and a side of radish/lettuce topping. You make your own tacos with the two side salsas they serve. The chicken portion is a little light but with all the food and huge portions in general I couldn't really complain.
I called before we got there to be sure the cliche birthday candle which they got right. I had a simple berries in a mason jar with this delicious mango sauce. My Dad's slice of tres leche cake was amazing! It was his first taste of tres leche so I think I corrupted him. After dinner, they give you warm churros in a bag to bring home along with our leftovers.
Besito has amazing food, that is for sure. After dinner they give you the smallest dolls ever to put on your pillow to keep the monsters away. Taking advantage of the $27.99 combo for three courses was the reason I came here but I would love to come back for some tacos and more tequila. I personally like this location better than Huntington because of the open air store front with tables outside on a nice night.
Came here yesterday for my husbands birthday after loving the besito in Huntington. Amazing food, amazing service, they brought my husband a little cake which was really good too. I had the budin which is basically like a Mexican lasagna so good. Queso fundito is also amazing. Pomegranate margarita was perfect too. A great place for a birthday and good food. Highly recommend this place.
So last night my girl and I were finally able to go on a date. Its just been a really long time since we had a chance to go out with work and stuff. So I've been to the Besito in Huntington and that was fabulous. We decided to visit this Besito in Roslyn because its closer to us since we live in Queens now.
Anyway, Luckily we got there and had a chance to grab 1 table by the door. Apparently they had reservations all night for the other tables. The place looks nice but I think I like the appearance of the one in Huntington better.
Our server came and took our drink orders. We got a pitcher for the White Sangria. The Sangria was really good. Then we ordered the Guacamole. Three minutes later they brought the guacamole already made. Confusing because the menu does say Tableside… I was thinking someone was gonna come and make it for us right there like they do in so many amazing Mexican restaurants. Anyway, about 5 minutes later we got the chips to go with the Guac. Odd but it is what it is. The Guac tasted good.
We started eating this Guac and chips and 15-20mins later the server decided to come by and take the rest of our order. I was about to get up and go look for him. Anyway, the food came out pretty fast. My girl ordered the vegetarian tacos and I had the Chile Rellenos Con Hongos. My girl is vegetarian and I wanted to be able to share with her. The dishes came out pretty quickly about 10mins after we ordered. Both Dishes tasted really good.
Our server did make 1 appearance right after the dishes came out. He topped off our glasses with sangria… Then this dude disappeared. We couldn't eat everything so someone stopped by and placed it in a to-go bag/box. We are sitting there talking, drinking sangria, thinking about dessert… The waiter never came back. I had to flag down the host and she had to go find him. At that point we waited so long we no longer wanted dessert. We just wanted the check. Our bill came to about $85 I still tipped the guy about $14.. I do wanted to leave him $1 or something…but I know its how he makes his living.
We were both very happy with the food and drink. This server sucked. I was very disappointed with that. I would of given this spot a 4 but because of the service I was actually considering giving it a 2… so we met in the middle at 3.
Pros: Ambiance, AMAZING table side guac that you can make mild, medium, or spicy, lots of vegetarian options, the appetizers are large, the drinks are strong, and they give you these cute little worry dolls to take home with you with your check.
Cons: Pricey
TLDR; Awesome guac, margs, and large portions. But expensive.
Excellent Pepino Margarita. Made at table guacamole was well flavored and the chips were hot and not greasy at all. My Salad Mexicana contained delicious grilled chicken- spicy and moist. Best of all, it had pieces of roasted corn! A must return!
A group of girlfriends and I went to celebrate one of our birthdays. It wasn't a busy night as it was Wednesday, but we had made a reservation just in case.
Once we sat down, the waitress was quick to entice us with a double order of guacamole for the table. It was fresh and chunky but two of the girls didn't like the big slices of onions in it. The complimentary spicy salsa was really good and was a good snack before our meals. We all had ordered different margaritas but I was reluctant to try any besides their fresas margarita. It tasted like candy! My friends all ordered two orders of tacos (from the appetizers) per person and they were enough to fill them up for dinner. I decided with the pan seared mahi mahi and was disappointed with the size for the price it was. Also, the fish was a little dry. We were given complimentary churros as a dessert which were yummy.
I would come back for brunch only to get the bogo margaritas.
Side note: They will charge you per person if you bring a cake. I believe it was a little less than $2 pp.
STILL MY FAVORITE restaurant! Still 5 stars! From the food, drinks to the customer service, everything is amazing. I cant emphasize enough how authentic their food is and how accommodating their staff is.
