While visiting NYC with friends, we met a native New Yorker who recommended Da Raffaele and when a native makes a recommendation, it's definitely worth checking out! There were very few people dining when we arrived at 7pm on a Sunday night. We learned that the restaurant recently reopened which must be the reason they weren't busy because the food and service were outstanding. The staff even tried to go to the liquor store next door in order to fulfill a drink request but the store was already closed.
We started our meal with a couple of appetizers, a grilled octopus dish and a truffled pasta dish that could also be ordered as an entree. Both were quite tasty and made me wish that I ordered the pasta as an entree because I wanted more! I decided on the tagliolini as my entree, two in the party had the pasta special which was frutti di mare and the forth person had the paccheri. All of the pasta was homemade and fresh and the meatballs with my dish were different than any other meatball I've tasted. They were stuffed with raisins and pinenuts (delicious!) and made me happy that I chose this dish as my entree over the truffled pasta. We shared a bottle of Silver Oak Cabernet which I thought was VERY reasonably priced compared to other restaurants. We shared tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert and were offered complimentary homemade orangecello which was amazing.
I've been to many Italian restaurants in NYC and Da Raffaele is my favorite so far. The staff is superb, the food is incredible and the prices are VERY reasonable especially for the quality of food and service. It's a great spot for a special occasion or a casual dinner with friends. We will definitely be back!
