Adana Grill

“Worth trying at least once if you are tired of the usual spots for lunch in midtown.”

“I especially like how the food here isn't overly salted like at so many other restaurants – maybe this is why people think it's bland?”

“I wouldn't want Adana Grill to get too crowded, but I think they deserve more business (it does get pretty busy during peak hours since they are small though).”

  1. I love this place!! Where I'm from it's rare to  get a chance to try greek/mediterranean food , so I thought I'd give it a go being near where I work. It was a delight the first time… Then the second, and the third time! I've never waited more than 10 minutes for my order and even if it was 10 minutes, it was most likely during lunch rush! I always get the lamb shish kebab sandwich which is a bit pricey compared to other items, but it is well worth it and a decent portion at that. The lamb meat is tender and if you are a fan of tzatziki sauce/white sauce, they throw that in with it as well as some red mildly hot sauce. I can't speak for other items just yet because I'm somewhat a man of routine if I've hit gold, but I can only imagine how tasty the rest of the choices are! Lastly, there are only a few tables to sit down at, but I honestly have never seen them all taken since most are there "to-go". I definitely plan on trying other stuff and making this one of my "go-to" spots. Thumbs up and I recommend you check out this little gem!

  2. I'm going to make a guess here because something has got to give. This location has housed several different restaurants over the years, none for an extended period of time. Schnitzel & Things left because I'm guessing they couldn't make the location economically viable. Perhaps the people behind Adana knew this, and thus jacked their prices up. Way up.

This is a take out place, and they're charging over ten bucks for a chicken caeser salad. And over five for hummus. And the food isn't at the "OMG so amazing" level where they'll get a ton of customers.

So something is going to give. Either their prices will come down, or they'll be gone.

  3. Too expensive for generic Turkish food. I used to come here occasionally for lunch when I was working around the corner. It's probably the only Turkish place in the immediate area. The pita sandwich is too small for lunch, thinking I could get away with a lunch for 8 dollars. For a decent size portion I would order the chicken kabob platter, 12 something dollars, and not very memorable. Lamb platter would cost you a couple of dollars extra.

They used to give you a piece of Turkish bread if you order the platter. The bread is probably the best thing on the menu. One time I wanted to buy a bread separately, but they told me they don't have any, even though I could clearly see it behind the counter. Maybe that bread was prepared for a large to go order, but it just came across as rude. They also have fries on the menu for four dollars? Wow!

Service is not friendly at all, in fact a bit grumpy. You can dine in, but it is very small and gets packed at peak lunch hours. In winter it was super cold inside. Would not come back if I'm in the area. The middle eastern food carts in the area have tastier food.

  4. Named after a city in Southern Turkey, I stopped In and out to pick up a chicken donner kebab sandwich for lunch. $8 and change for the sandwich.

Place was generally empty around 12:30pm; not a great sign in NYC…  Service was fast and efficient.

Sauce (both white & red) were pretty bland.  Sandwich was also bland (even with sauces added).  Not much flavor .

I think food carts in the area offer a tastier, more pleasing 'sandwich'-style lunch meal for around the same price.

Glad I tried it but not a place I would return to.  Sorry Adana, I won't be Back-a .

Whoaaa… Within an hour of eating here I wasn't feeling too well.  Bad meal??? Not sure, but won't try again.

  5. nice fast casual turkish place. prices are in line with other turkish places. their platters (rice, salad, meat and bread) come in two sizes: small (approximately $8) or large (approximately $15 or more). I would say the large is a decent portion of food but if you are hungry you can easily devour it. their meats are flavorful. the sandwich comes standard in a pita pocket, but you can pay a little extra for turkish bread instead of pita.

  6. Came with a friend for their lunch special. Took only 2 minutes to place order and 8 to get our food.
My chicken adana came with Shepherd's salad (a mix of fresh veggies) and my choice of side – I picked tabouleh. The chicken adana was a super flavorful kofta-esque grilled meat. Arrived with tzatziki, a mild tomato sauce, and a large piece of bread. So healthy and delicious. My friend ordered the similar lunch special, but with spicy mashed vegetables (great for dipping) and lamb adana. Also perfectly grilled.
Would return again – very tasty.

  7. Friend and I each got a "small" plate of kebab to stay.

Staff was nice and accommodating, and the food was not bad for a decent price.

    Kafta:
My dish. It was very flavorful and juicy, but way too salty.

    Lamb Gyro:
Friend's dish that I tried. Portion was larger on this one. Not as flavorful, not as salty, and a little bit dry. Not bad but not great.

Accompaniments were great and the rice was particularly delicious. I also loved the pickled cabbage, I believe, that was served alongside.
Would be back for convenience (near Grand Central), but it's not on the top of my list.
