I love a good tostada salad and I would have gone for one, but I decided on a burrito instead since burritos are easier to transport. There were a handful of stool seats, but they were mostly taken by customers who had already ordered and were just waiting for their takeout orders.
The food took a little while, so while I waited, I perched myself on a stool and helped myself to the water by the door.
$9.95 Grilled Chicken Burrito – 12" flour tortilla w/ rice, black beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, sour cream:
When I received my burrito, it seemed a little small, but once I dug into it, I saw that it really was stuffed and actually wrapped very tightly. The tortilla was nice and soft, the grilled chicken had great flavor, and the rest of the filling was very creamy. The only downside was the soggy lettuce. Despite that, it was still very good. It was so hefty I couldn't even finish it. I certainly tried to, but ended up saving part of it.
The complimentary chips tasted very fresh and crunchy and had a medium thickness to it. They gave me a red sauce and a bright green sauce. Surprisingly, that stoplight green sauce was really hot and the red one was mild in comparison.
$10 is more than I'm accustomed to paying for a burrito and chips & salsa, but it is a very reasonable price for a takeout meal in the area. I'd come back to try the tostada next time.
Yay!! for a burrito place open near Lincoln Center after I was craving Mexican food after a nighttime photo-sesh! The was had a handful of people when I walked in half-an-hour before closing time and the cashier was still happy to take my order and wasn't in a rush to kick everyone out. This place seems to be popular with the regular folks who live in the area.
I settled for the barbecue chicken burrito and was hesitant on whether or not I should order chips and guacamole or not, but after referring to Yelp, I was pleasantly happy to find out that chips and salad comes with every order for free and I was happy to see that. Plus one for that! As for the burrito itself, I had it with guacamole for an extra charge. I thought that the burrito was was a bit on the sweet side while I was kinda expected a smokey flavor for the chicken. Maybe cut down on the sauce a tad bit?
Overall, I had a great first experience here. The burrito was about the size of my head and for about $10 for a burrito and chips and salsa, my experience here was definitely a good one 🙂
Ordered 2 burritos to go, grilled chicken and a steak. I didn't try the steak burrito, but L once again said it was a bit dry and the meat was a lil stringy. He definite recommends getting the grilled chicken. Has a nice char on the meat. The burrito was big enough for 2 meals for me.
I loved the salsas they have. It's so fresh and full of flavor even the spicy green sauce is so good. Wasn't a fan before, but I'm definitely starting to like this place. Loved the free chips as well. I don't think I got any the first time I was here.
I wouldn't say it's the best burrito, but it's still pretty good.
Luckily, Burrito Box is a quick two blocks away from my office building. It's a great alternative to a big name competitor, and who can help but appreciate the free chips & fresh salsa that comes with your order?
Their delivery is always reliable, the portions are large and the prices are fair. It's a no frills Mexican place, and worth getting into a food coma for. Get your order to go and enjoy it elsewhere.
Burrito box can best be defined as a taco, quesadilla & burrito heaven!
Burrito box is a little Restaurant that dishes out some pretty amazing tacos! My favorite is the chicken flour soft taco. They aren't really tacos, I would categorize them as mini burritos on steroids. Each order comes with 2!!
They offer free water, free chips and salsa when you sit down…..and also a free small chips and salsa with any order whether it's to stay or go! Salsa is spicy so BEWARE!
There is very little space to sit with maybe a total of 6-7 seats, but majority of people take there food to go. The food is authentic and a lot of the guys that work there are Mexican and make a BOMB SALSA!!! SALSAA!! SALSA!! TRY IT!! It's packed with freshness but it is hot! So if your sensitive to spice(like myself) take intermittent breaks and lots of water nearby because you are going to love it!!!
Definitely found a little small closet spaced gem that is reasonably priced for the neighborhood, and hands down some very good food!
Cash and credit card accepted!
Sorry, it was too good for me to wait to take a picture of it. But I had the pleasure of getting the beef steak burrito (it was the most expensive burrito, came out to $10.50 I believe), it comes with sour cream, black beans, yellow rice and of course the meat! Salsa is also offered on the side too. OMG the burrito was so satisfying! I had it for lunch around 3PM, it's now 10:30 and I am still so full. I am happy that they are not stingy with their portion. All the ingredients tasted so fresh, including the meat! I must say, it was a bit tad chewy but delicious nonetheless. Definitely will continue to come here if I'm in the neighborhood!
Popped in for a quick Sunday lunch on my own. I got a chicken ranchero burrito with no dairy and portobello mushrooms. My order was ready in under five minutes, and came with chips and two little containers of salsa, plus green sauce, plus a small packet of hot sauce, plus plastic cutlery, to go. I ended up eating it there because there was space, and it totally hit my Mexican craving square in the you-know-what. Would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area craving Mexican again. Oh, and there's free water. And the lady was really nice about giving me an extra napkin. Always a plus!
This place is a gem close to Columbus circle! I tried their chicken ranchero burrito without lettuce and sour cream and it was honestly one of the best chicken burritos I have ever had! the chicken was really juicy and tender and their free chips with salsa was a major plus. I highly suggest you take off the lettuce to any burrito since Mexicans never put lettuce on their burritos haha. a must try for anyone near this area!
