  1. Atmosphere: This place is SO incredibly loud. My boyfriend and I were practically shouting at each other the entire night just so we could hear each other.

Food: The spicy ramen is incredibly spicy, more so than most places, so unless you can really handle heat, I would opt for the non spicy ones.

I do like that this place is veggie friendly, i.e. there's a vegetarian broth available. However, I think the vegetarian option at Ippudo is much better and more flavorful (the wasabi ramen available only at the original location, not the west side). The vegetarian one here also came with an avocado, which I thought was incredibly odd. Probably won't come back.

  2. A great place for ramen, but maybe not so much if you're looking for more traditional ramen. The ramen here is good — but the broth is thicker and the flavors are much stronger than normal. If you're looking for ramen with a more Taiwanese influence, I think this is a great place and an interesting twist from traditional ramen.

The inside has somewhat limited seating and can get crowded very fast just like Ippudo! Try to come earlier than you intend to eat to avoid a wait or come with a smaller party. They lack larger tables, so smaller parties will get you seated quicker.

  3. Make sure your whole party is there, or they will not seat you! Also its Cash Only (ATM available)

This Totto has a long counter in the front, with table seating in the back (some high bar tables and low regular ones)

I ordered the Taiwan Paitan Ramen, topped with spicy ground chicken, egg, bean sprouts and nira chives. I was struck by how large the whole ramen was- I was completely stuffed by the time I finished it! It was good, but the soup's texture was a little weird- for a paitan soup (chicken bone broth) it felt almost a little too thick!

  4. I never really paid attention to the fact that ramen is usually made with pork broth. Totto's is known for its chicken broth and you can really taste the difference. I wasn't too sure what to order so the waitress suggested to get the spicy paitan. I added corn and egg as extra toppings. My boyfriend ordered their tsukemen, ramen that requires you to dip the noodles in the broth.

I enjoyed my ramen but I just couldn't help but compare it to the ramen we have in LA. I think I'll stick with pork broth. Boyfriend had the same issue. Nothing compares to the tsukemen of Tsujita LA Artisan Noodles. Nonetheless, the service was good. Since it was our first time they walked us through the menu. Thumbs up!

    CASH ONLY.

  5. I tried another Totto Ramen location before and I didn't love it, but people kept telling me I was wrong and that Totto Ramen is the best. Well, tried it again and I still think it's pretty average for ramen.

Things I don't like about the ramen:
    1. The broth: it's so thick and it feels very heavy.
    2. The meat: the pork was very hard and didn't have the tender fat portions like at a lot of other ramen shops.

Things I liked about the ramen:
    1. The noodles: nice and chewy.
    2. The flavor: I enjoyed the miso flavor, but wish the broth was less heavy.
    3. The egg and vegetables: redeemed the toppings.

That being said, the char siu buns were AMAZING as always. I'd pass on the ramen next time.

  6. Surprisingly good for a chicken-based ramen bowl.

Sat down to the large chicken paitan bowl, which arrived steaming hot with titanic-sized cuts of pork.  Fie on reviewers who complained about the proportion of fat on these meatbergs – the fat is the sweetest, umami-est, and overall best part!  Paitan soup broth was rich and surprisingly not oversalted, as other ramen joints are wont to do.  Generous helpings of thick noodles; never fear, a second helping is available for $2.

Was much less impressed with the tsukemen.  While dipping broth was appropriately more concentrated than the mainline paitan broth, it included a sour note that played poorly in comparison to the rich, friendly chicken paitan.  Perhaps this is unfair, and the tsukemen would fare better in isolation, but I'd stick to the mainline ramens in the future.

    Cash only.

  7. Just writing this review is making me question whether or not I should order another ramen bowl for myself. Man, this ramen house is SO DELICIOUS! Their broth is creamy yet runny enough for a ramen bowl. The flavors are almost pressed together for a umami experience. I loved their wavy noodles, most likely because the white one didn't look appetizing, haha. I went for the spicy ramen bowl with chicken but I asked for the saté-like seasoning to be on the side so I could adjust the spice level to my liking.

Cons: YOU LITERALLY NEED TO PAY FOR EVERY SINGLE EXTRA THING. That being in bold should be your indicator to be prepared in paying extra $2-3 per additional topping such as an egg, avocado, veggies and etc. Found it a bit absurd starting at $12 and easily working my way up to a $18 ramen bowl. Then again, I don't regret it because it was so irresistibly delish!
Another con would be that they always have a wait and when you put a reservation (in person) once your name is called, oh girl, YOUR ENTIRE PARTY BETTER BE PRESENT or else……girl bye. Literally, you all get bumped to the back of the line. So close yet so far, LOL.

  8. Atmosphere: very small, gets crowded. But very welcoming. The decor is modern. Cash only place.

Service: food came out so fast. Our whole dinner experience took maybe 35 mins.. And that's with appetizers and ramen.

Food: there known an for their chicken broth. So definitely need to try any ramen! My fiancé ordered the Paitan extra spicy ramen. Spicy sauce was on the side which was good so u can control your level of spicy. I was too full to try the ramen sadly we had the chicken bun and chicken mayo bowl both were so awesome!!! Sad I couldn't try the ramen! I did have some of the broth and it was so nice and crisp and clean broth.
