It might have been the stomach flu talking but this was my first meal after recovering from a 24-hr hell a few weeks ago. We came here on a Sunday evening and was able to pick from lots of seating options. We were the 4th party there and had a great quiet meal here. What I loved about this place was how fantastic their bread tasted! My bf ordered the Caesar salad with chicken and I went with the grilled veggie sandwich on multigrain. His entrée salad came with a bread basket that was full of wheat & sesame bread – it was so delicious. My sandwich was also great with it's warm crusty bread with lots of oats. Yes, I could talk about how their bread options made this a wonderful meal, but I'll stop. Please check this place out – it's a wonderful neighborhood spot.
Came here with 2 of my pals to grab some wine before going to UCBeast. We were comfortably seated at the bar, where we tried to figure out what wines to get. We eventually decided to get an entire bottle versus just a few glasses, as the price would be more worth it. Apparently, we aren't the only people that would do that.
Price was fair. Bartender would fill up our wine glasses when requested, and was cool when we asked her to take our picture. Service was, basically, pretty excellent. Very open and friendly staff, and EVERYONE was great.
We didn't have any of the food, but it definitely looked and smelled awesome.
Atmosphere had great ambiance. Seemed more for private settings, so it's a great third or fourth date option.
Went here with my football team after practice. We didn't really have plans, but decided that we wanted to grab brunch so we ended up at this spot.
It wasn't really crowded, even around noon on a Saturday, so they were able to seat our group of 8 right away.
For my meal, I decided to go with the Mexican burger. Though the chipotle was not really what I was expecting, the burger itself was huge and well cooked and went well with the guacamole. I also opted for a side salad instead of fries with creamy basil, and it was also a very large portion and the dressing was delicious.
Overall, everything here was priced reasonably well and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. They also have a deal for brunch where you can order from a set of 15 entrees and get coffee for $11. In addition, they have mimosas for only $4, including a delicious one with apricot puree.
This is definitely a great option for brunch as the food is great, the pricing is very reasonable, and the service is friendly.
My boyfriend had a hankering for salad (yes, he's straight) so we chose Angelina Cafe because it was nearby and had a decent selection. We were satisfied, but not wowed. I liked the shabby-chic decor and the fact that it was nearly empty on a weeknight, so we weren't rushed.
It's not a bad spot, just nothing exceptional.
I went there for brunch on a saturday, we went there pretty early like before noon, so it was kind of quite, we were the first to be seated, but every time we passed by, it's never too crowded. The restaurant is very spacious, w plenty of tables.
I had grilled chicken sandwich, it was fresh, light and delicious, bread was crispy and soft, I love it also came w either a side of greens or french fries, i opted for lightly dressed side of fresh greens. J had his typical egg benedict, eggs were nicely poached and hollandaise was delicious. overall, we like our brunch.
Such amazing food for a great price!
Saturday brunch:
I was faced with a tough choice. The brunch menu could have pleased with any decision, so I decided to go with something I don't ever order-salmon eggs Benedict. Holy crap!!! Amazing.

Why aren't you going here? Why isn't anybody going here? I'm torn between raving about Angelina on Yelp and keeping it a secret, but of course I want them to stick around so I'm going to sing their praises.
The space is massive and laid out in a weird way. I came in on a Saturday around 6:30 and me and my friend were the only ones there. An hour later there were two other tables occupied. The front of the restaurant looks like a general store store-front, with red rope light around the edges. The inside has wine bottles lining the walls and leather couches in reds and tans. There's a back door that opens up…into the private park of the apartment complex it neighbors. In short, the place doesn't seem to know quite what it wants to be or who it wants to attract. Even the block it's on is kinda weird.
I wasn't too thrilled with the appetizers. Tasha's curry shrimp is 3 shrimp for $8.50! Now, it does come with avocado if we're trying to justify things, but I'm not sure that I am. On the plate is the curry sauce (with peanut, which isn't mentioned on the menu for those with allergies!) with pumpernickel bread on top, each spread with mashed avocado with red onions, a shrimp, and a cherry tomato. It's sort of confusing and awkward to try and eat, I ended up combing the shrimp, avocado and sauce, and then the bread and sauce. Ultimately I would skip it though, none of the ingredients really come together.
The calamari was good. They don't mess with it, but grill it nicely, and it is super soft.
The pasta is why I'm giving this place 4 stars, and I was shocked because I very rarely order pasta from a place that isn't an Italian restaurant. But if this place isn't Italian, it's also not anything else, and the reviews for the penne alla vodka were awesome.
And they were all correct. The penne was cooked perfectly, and the sauce, my god the sauce. It was so rich and thick and a little sweet and somewhat buttery- I love when a vodka sauce is buttery! This might just be the best penne alla vodka I've ever had. It's also crazy affordable: $10!
I also had their lobster pasta special. Fettuccine with shrimp and arugula in a lobster broth. Definitely keep around some of the bread from the bread basket to sop up that broth. It's just a little salty (perfectly salty), and you can really taste the lobster along with the fresh garlic. Freakin hell, this thing is too special to be a special, you hear me Angelina?! Put that nonsense on the menu so I can order it again. Everything in that dish worked so well, and usually I'm not a fan of light "sauces" on pasta, but this stuff was gold.
Service was awesome. Beer and wine only. Go, bring your friends, tell everyone 🙂
ETA: Their mushroom ravioli is also absolutely amazing. Their pasta dishes are always very strong. And they should be serving liquor soon!
This is one of my favorite restaurants. They really make amazing comfort food. Today's specials included black linguine with shrimp, a beet salad with fried goat cheese and short ribs, all of which were amazing. Angelina really is amazingly beautiful and has a great atmosphere. It has a dark intimate candle lit feel to it. The menu ranges from sandwiches to pasta to more sophisticated items. It always makes me feel like I have a personal chef with an amazing range when I eat at Angelina!
