  1. A manhattan style brunch place.

Decor: simple but chic. I called to make reservations for brunch and when I walked in 30 minutes early, there was no wait and a table with a sign was waiting for me and my friends.

The drinks that come with brunch were great. I had prosecco and it was just perfect!

For food, I ordered the salmon and poached eggs with potatoes. My eggs were perfect but someone else at the party got over cooked eggs and when he asked to remake them, they were under cooked. It was a hit or miss. 3 out of 4 of us thought the food was just right.

Service – waiters are tall and handsome with unidentifiable accents. They add extra flare to the dining experience.

Bathroom – not something I usually yelp about… But in this case there was one tiny bathroom for the entire place and I stood in line for a good 20 minutes while one mother occupied it and let her two children in one at a time while taking long breaks to herself in between. I had to go and the wait was frustrating. I wish there was another bathroom.

  2. One of the best brunches in recent memory! I came here with my mom when we were in town for a Broadway show. We went walking through Hell's Kitchen looking for a place to grab a bite to eat before the show and stumbled upon Tartina. We liked that they had a good mix of breakfast and lunch foods to choose from on the menu, and there was also a sign saying that you get a free drink with brunch. We were sold!

We were seated at a table in the front of the restaurant, and because it was warm out the windows were open to the outdoors. We appreciated that they gave us the best seats in the house!

The food and drinks were great! I ordered a salmon dish — it came as a plate full of lox topped with asparagus and poached eggs. It was so delicious and filling! My mom ordered a caesar salad with chicken which she also liked. We both chose champagne as our free drink. It was a nice touch to our meals, and because they served our drinks in water glasses, I think they actually gave us 2 glasses worth of champagne each.

  3. 2.5 for Tartina

Tartina is a cute cafe in HK. It's very CLEAN and the service is great but the food was sub par.

*FREE PROSECCO, MIMOSA, OR BELLINI w BRUNCH

MASCARPONE CREPES: I wanted something super light but this was HEAVY! It was a HEFTY portion. The crepes were REALLY SPONGY and all you can taste is residual BATTER. The BERRY compote was TOO SWEET and FAKE WHIPPED cream? No thanks.

FRITTATA: I had a small bite of this and it was JUST ALRIGHT. It was a pretty cookie cutter-eggs-with-stuff-in-it. Presentation wise, I'm not a fan of salad atop egg.

FUNNY: My friend ordered pancakes with a SIDE of SAUSAGE and what they gave him was a small dish of DICED UP SAUSAGE. No links or patties of any kind. What do we look like, cats? (the bowl was shallow too, funnily enough).

    I won't be coming back.

  4. The happy hour alone earns this place 4 stars. 4-8pm is BOGO on drinks, which are already very nicely priced. $7 for 2 glasses of very tasty Montepulciano = fab. Your drinks also come with bruschetta, and I mean 4 pieces of legit full bruschetta, none of that teeny tiny "toast point" bs.

For dinner, my date and I split the spinach salad and then had the penne all'arrabbiata for myself and the gnocchi for him. The salad was made with regular spinach, which was a nice, hearty change as I have just come to expect all spinach salads to be made with baby spinach. It was well dressed and topped with sliced grilled portobello mushroom and chopped pancetta, which my boyfriend loved. I've seriously never seen him gobble up a salad so enthusiastically. The gnocchi was just fine, too creamy and not cheesy enough in our opinions. I really liked the penne! The sauce was perfectly spiced. Portions in general are large so you won't leave hungry.

Our bill came to around $60 before tip and we were both stuffed (I boxed up half my pasta) and had had 2 glasses of wine each. More than reasonable for the area! Overall it was a very nice date night experience for us.

  5. This is a 2.5 star review.

Honestly, there's nothing glaringly wrong with Tartina.  The service wasn't horrible, and the food didn't make me queasy.  It's just that nothing stands out at all, I felt no reason why I'd come back.  The pasta was uninspired, and I've had better at multiple restaurants within 2 blocks of Tartina.  The dishes were very by the numbers, and the taste was just bland or so-so.  I'd recommend several other Italian places in the neighborhood before them.

  6. I have no idea how this place has gotten such positive reviews. I got the eggs benedict with salmon. The hollandaise sauce was really thick, the eggs were overcooked where the yellows were hard, and the potatoes were undercooked/soggy. Yes the free mimosa with brunch was nice, the decor was welcoming, and the music gave it a relaxed vibe. … but I'll never come here again. I was expecting a memorable eggs benedict from the other reviews, but trust me, you'll forget about the meal within an hour.

  7. *This review is based on brunch – which was not good at all.

I ordered the jam omelette with sausage and fontina cheese. I know what you're thinking. JAM omelette? It sounds weird but for some reason, I thought it might be good. You know, that whole 'sweet and savory' concept. Sadly, I was mistaken. The egg was way overcooked, the sausage had this weird leftover taste (probably leftover from the night before), the home fries it came with were bland and a little mushy, and the jam came in globs. Let's just say nothing in that omelette worked well together. The best part of the meal was probably that it came with your choice of a mimosa, bellini, or prosecco.

I would come back to try their pasta, but I definitely won't be back for brunch.

  8. Friends of mine came into town for the International Food Festival and one friend said she had met a work colleague at a restaurant on 9th Avenue recently, really liked it but could not remember the name of it. She checked her mobile and found out that it was Tartina. It is a small place, more of a long hallway-railroad apartment type of space. There are tables in the front and some seating in the back and a bar area for seating. It was brunch time so we all ordered from the menu provided. I got the frittata with sausage and mushrooms and on top of the frittata was a mixed green salad. It was delicious. I got a cup of coffee to round out the meal. My friends ordered the same as I did but one ordered a cappuccino instead. The waiter, Alexi, was very personable and because my friend had been there recently, they kind of knew each other and got to know each other all over again. The food was good, it is reasonably priced and I would recommend and return. It is a great place to take people from our of town-you can eat comfortably and are not rushed.
