Came here on a Saturday evening
Ambiance: Similar to other mama Juana. This particular location had large picture of DR which made me missed my land. At around 11ish they start moving the dining tables for bottle service tables yet it doesn't leave much room for dancing.
Food: The paella was yummy and quite large. The guac and chips was not bad, nothing amazing.
Price: Not the most expensive but I think a little overpriced.
Drinks: The jack punch is super strong.
Service: Our waitress was really attentive and friendly.
I stopped by this Mamajuana Cafe location after hours with friends. On Saturday nights it becomes a lounge / club. There was no cover charge or entrance fee.
The drinks were good but not sure about the prices since it was my friends treat.
The crowd was mature and security was pretty tight.
I'd return again.
Ok so first, I should say I'm a huge fan of the Dyckman location, the others have fallen short in one way or another for me. This particular location I have enjoyed brunch(which is so much fun) and honestly you're so into the party, the actual food we were served really didn't matter much lol Soo..last night (Friday) we decided to give it a try. It's a minute or two away from home and I wanted to stay local.
So party of 4 + a little one walked in and were immediately greeted and sat. Our table was almost smack in the middle, it was odd but nonetheless I was happy there was no wait. From my seat I had a clear view of the bar and the main entrance. Minutes later we have our drink orders taken and the waitress lets us know the specials for the day. The drinks too a tad longer than I was expecting but we were happy campers once they arrived. We placed apps and entree orders and tried out a few of their specials.
The appetizers took quite a while to get to us! My goodness, it took almost 20 mins to see any apps. Both of my choices were apps (shrimp and a salad) but only the shrimp came out for now. The appetizers looked and tasted amazing. My coconut shrimp was beautifully plated with an orange marmalade dipping sauce that was actually inside a hollow orange. I loved it I wish there were more shrimp to keep dipping it in that! Lol
Ok….so those were devoured immediately and now we waited about 40 mins for the entree My poor son was starving! We happened to have had a handful of crackers in our bag, and I feared the tantrum that would surely follow after the last one was eaten! The waitress had only shown up once in these 40 or so minutes to let us know that they food was "on its way" but otherwise we barely saw her. The place was not crazy packed so I could see everyone on the floor and she was barely on it.
Anyhow the food finally came (hallelujah) and immediately I realized my española salad was not how I always have it. I know it was at a different location but shouldn't it be consistent? The goat cheese that's usually sprinkled on was actually fried up into balls on the sides of my plate and they were not very tasty. The green grapes were nowhere to be seen and the shaved green apples have turned into sliced red apples on the side of the salad..hmmm
Well it was also smaller than I had remembered so i decided to order a side of rice and beans to share with the baby. Except I couldn't find my server anywhere!!! Never heckled on is, never asked us about the food. A solid 20 minutes later we see her coming in from outside. We ask her for the side and a soda refill. The side comes out eventually, no refill. She takes a table next to us, we're still waiting. We ask her again for the refill, she apologizes….then never comes back. After a good 10 mins and realizing she nor the refill is EVER coming, our food was gone, but our plates were still in front of us, she reappears again, walking around without a care in the world. We then ask for the check and we thank her for the refill. She kinda apologizes but kinda laughs, hmm. The check however came very quickly.
I will probably be back for brunch sometime, but the service we received was just so careless, she seemed so unfocused and uninterested. It was definitely a turn off. Will not be back for dinner.
Service blows, if you are OK with that then move on to the review.
Arrived on Sunday for brunch. Got seated outside since inside is sold out until August for their indoor brunch party. Got the menu (only brunch) and no other options, its either all included or nothing but we were not aware of it. 3 adults and a child 150 bucks for brunch, that's crazy expensive.
Ordered the steak a caballo, red snapper, mini bandeja paisa, the pancakes , huevos españoles and mini 3 golpes.
Food is not bad at all with with such bad service why on earth are you coming to eat here.
Not to find excuses but the bajdeja paisa was just rice, beans and meat with 2 eggs. The mini 3 golpes was mangu with fried egg and s small bite if cheese and salami.. Over all the food gets 2 stars from the 5.
Now service, since they are sold out inside they don't really care about the rest of the diners here. Tables, dirty so we had to tell the guy how to clean the table. Even the security guards had to pitch in to serve water. We asked for a sprite 3 times and after 20 minutes the 4th person got it for us.
A table of 3 adults and 1 child got charged for gratuity mandatory on the bill.
Definetly will never, ever, forever ever come back to this lowsy place.
Even the manager is lowsy, she came out 2 times in 2 hours to see if we were OK but didn't do anything to the fact that we had been waiting for drinks for a while.
To the food: new asked for a menu besides the brunch and were told that they didn't have one. We then asked for what they had for kids and they said chicken fingers fries and something else. The chicken fingers are actually chicken wings, fries were good and I mean really good.
Overall it was a really bad experience from the service to them closing the shades so when their party started at 3pm nobody seating at the outside tables could see inside.
They serve hookahs and unlimited mimosas and sangria's forced on your brunch special. Also we were told that we had to wait up to 4 hours to get desert when we received our bill without asking. Bad service all around, never again son never..
So my friend and I came in early on Saturday and it was pretty dead. Theres a B rating in the window which can be a deterrent for many but we camr in anyway. My friend wanted hookah and we had a Sangria pitcher. We also ordered a kids meal chicken fingers to share, which was good. The hookah comes separate from "the hookah guy" who's very cool. Also our sangria was abundant without too much ice so we shared about 4 glasses each! Our server was excellent and attentive to us and the rest of the staff was friendly as well. Overall we would come back to this establishment in the future. It was clean from what we could see and anytime the staff is friendly and attentive is a definite plus! I give only 3 stars since I'm only rating the service of drinks and how can you really mess up chicken fingers. I will be back though to try some of the entrees in the future though in hopes of re reviewing.
I came here on a late Friday night for some drinks and to listen to music. When we got here it wasn't very crowded but people started showing up shortly after.
There were two bartenders on our side who were friendly but the one that took care of us was Carlos. He seemed very knowledgeable and seemed to really care about the quality of drinks he was making. We got to try a few of his drinks but my favorite was a vodka mojito that he made, this was my first time having a vodka mojito since they are usually made with rum.
I didn't get to try the food since I came here from having dinner some where else but it smelled pretty good.
I also noticed that they had hookah.
The music was decent and there were some people dancing.
I have to admit I didn't mind my manners here: I came here with two girl friends. We were looking for good food and drinks after work. I was told they had a happy hour, sadly their happy hour is only at the bar. No big deal. We decide to sit and eat we were starving. The menu was very small and the options were both basic and over priced. The place was empty on a Friday evening. It seems like this place cant decided if they want to be party, trendy or romantic. All attempts are a fail as far as I am concern. That's when I did what I haven't done in years I go up and left.
I never like to leave a place when I have already been seated however I couldn't even pick out an appetizer or a cocktail I might be interested in. We grabbed our bags and headed down the street to a crowded but worth the wait Havana Cafe.
