  1. Stopped by for lunch with the Mrs. We were promptly seated and our drink order taken. My beer and her soda came promptly.

We ordered Pork Katsu and the traditional Ramen. First came our miso, pickles, and seeds which you go grind yourself and add a sauce for the katsu. Our meals arrived promptly. Both were delicious. The katsu is probably the best I ever tasted. Light but very crispy arrived and the sauce was delicious. The ramen was very good and only second to ramen I had in Hawaii. I have yet to visit Japan. Soon.

I really enjoyed my experience here and look forward to my next visit.

  2. This place REALLY needs to update their business hours. They are supposedly open until 11:30 on a Monday evening BUT (thankfully, I called) they apparently decided they would close an hour early instead. Lady on the phone literally said "today we close at 1030" and no reasons were given.

If you want to come, make sure you call ahead in case they decide to close early.

  3. Great ramen! Authentic! Delicious at a great price! I work nearby and make sure to stop in an enjoy frequently.

The location is a bit hidden, on the second floor, so make sure you don't pass right by it when walking by.

  4. No wait during lunch at this location! Or it could be because I came around 1pm. They have a  tasty Pork Katsu Curry w/ Rice for $14. For the lunch special they upgrade from 120g to 140g, but I decided on the 70g, also $14, because I wanted a smaller portion. The pork was golden, crispy, and juicy with lots of delicious curry. Make sure you get every lost drop of the curry with he warm, somewhat sticky rice.

  5. Inside is quite small, so it can get filled up quickly. They also have counter seats as well as small and larger size tables. Most of the staff here are not Japanese, which is not surprising in NYC. They still produce pretty good and authentic Japanese dishes.

Katsu Hama specializes in Katsu, which is breaded pork or chicken cutlet. So I do recommend you to order one of the katsu items. They are pretty good portion, and tasty.

  6. Went for lunch with a coworker yesterday because he told me I had to try the bread pork cutlets. I ordered the Kurobuta katsu lunch special which came with Breaded Berkshire pork loin cutlet, homemade potato salad and shredded cabbage served with rice, miso soup and homemade pickles. The portion size was great and they offer free refills on the miso soup!

I tried the pickles and they were delicious, as well as the homemade potato salad. The breaded pork was good but probably my least favorite part. This is only because the pork cutlet was thick and had a decent amount of fat in it which I do not like (totally a preference thing). Besides that the food is great and the service is good too!

I have had the ramen set here also and I am definitely going to get it again!

Next time I am going to try the breaded chicken cutlet in the curry cause because the person next to me had it and it looked and smelt amazing.

Tip- lunch time is packed if you are not looking to wait go a little early or a little later to miss the lunch rush.

  7. Can I be honest… I don't get the hype! A lot of Asian tourists end up here cuh this shop up in someone's japanese katsu must go to list up in some sort of Asian eat list ya feel. It was pretty good in terms of taste, but honestly the portion size and price tag just not on par. Service was okay and the shop looked nice, but its not the best I've had. If you get seated near the windows its a little crowded too. Keep the hype right fam!

  8. Think this place deserves a better Yelp rating than it has. If you want Pork Katsu, i don't know of a better place in Manhattan than this place. Not too pricey, big portions, and yummy pork katsu!
