Stumbled upon this place after wandering along 9th Ave for a couple miles. A friend met up with me for a late dinner so it was a nice casual setting for that. Ordered a couple things to split including fried chicken gizzard, spaghetti w/ roe, yakitori, and okonomiyaki. Everything was just okay, nothing outstanding but nothing too bad either. The okonomiyaki was adorable in its little pan though! The drink I had, a lychee something, was delicious too.
Straightforward service and pretty much a no frills type of place.
This place was right by the times square in the theater district and not very easy to miss. There is nothing fancy about the place…although entering the place might be confusing..there are two doors and if you take the right door you are almost certain to bang your head into the glass door.
I was quickly seated at the bar and was offered a drink and food menu. There was sake tasting menu on the wall and I have no sake experience in my life so thought of giving it a try. The bartender seemed to not know her sake. I wouldnt blame her for not knowing things but when you are working in a Japanese bar/restaurant a little homework is appreciated. They do have a bunch of small plates that you can share and enjoy. I had chicken liver, chicken and shrimp and also a pork belly and onion on rice. The food was decent for the price and the taste. But I have definitely experienced better. Overhearing some of the incompetent kitchen staff did not make me confident enough to come hear and try the seafood stuff. If you are here try NOT to go for raw fish/sushi/sashimi etc.
You will be better off ordering something hot or cooked in a wok. 😀
An excellent choice for Izakaya style restaurant. Went here on a Monday night at 9pm, place stays open until 2pm according to the server. Food was good and so was the drinks with reasonable prices. The place is authentic including loud (in a good way) Japanese Salary men grabbing a drink and a bite with colleagues after a long days work. Reminds me of Tokyo.
This hagi location is cleaner, quieter, classier, and less dungeon like. It's a great place to make a reservation for large groups – the service was great (gratuity was included in our party of 10).
The menu items seem different than the other hagi location though, or maybe it's been a while since I've been to hagi.
The mentai pasta was delicious!! The chicken meatballs were really soft and flavorful. I loved the mixed poke (tuna and salmon) with egg yolk in a martini glass. The fried oyster was good, as was the fried chicken. Their sashimi was fresh and on top of deliciously flavored white sushi rice that I forced them to take away from me.
We ended the meal with green tea ice cream and lady M's crepe cake. Now I definitely don't remember this on the original hagi menu.
I'd definitely come back again with a large group!

Karage was very good, and sukiyaki was of a good quality.
Good sake bar here, we even tried a sake champagne(with bubbles)- not to everyone tastes – as it was a tad too sweet.
Good happy hour, and have some crazy drinking food on the menu – we tried the seafood tempura pizza ( which was super greasy)! Hahaha
Surprisingly good, Sake Bar Hagi 46 is located on a block not known for good places. Gyozas weren't very good and the seaweed salad was overly sauced but the pork ramen was excellent. Staff was efficient and friendly. Prices were reasonable. Great place to kick back with some friends over plenty of sake.
The food was ok and even though the price tag seems to be not too expensive, the portion is rather small and it does add up. The deep fried tempura pizza was a weird for me and the ramen burger was super tiny. Do order the okonomiyaki though! Otherwise, the yakitori is just ok, just average.

My friend and I came here to get mochi and a beer yesterday…it was a great experience! Think of this place as like an Asian dive bar. They had some TVs, a full bar, cool drink options (like macha beer) and a TON of different sakes.
We both got a Sapporo, which was only $3. 3 pieces of green tea mochi = $4.
The service was good – the bartender was attentive to us and answered our questions.
I would definitely go back and try dinner/other foods and drinks.
