  1. Great deal for sandwiches and smoothies. The smoothies are fresh and the food is good. Hawaiian sandwich is good and my dad liked the Cuban sandwich, a lot of meat. There is some seating. I definitely want to come back and try the other types of sandwiches. My only complaint is the wait. it's a long one. I know they're making all the sandwiches fresh bus how would they deal with multiple customers?  Everyone is friendly. The island blast smoothie is good.

  2. I love their smoothies! There are many options and you can also make your own. Just a note, besides fruit and milk, they also put sugar and frozen yogurt in their smoothies  by default. If you don't want sugar and froyo, let them know when they take your order.

  3. Unless you're a vegetarian, you must try the Hawaiian torta. It's seriously slamming. Layers of spicy pork, bacon, pineapple, chipotle peppers and cheese. God, it's orgasmic. I didn't understand how serious a torta could be until I was turned on to this spot. It's an absolute 10.

  4. Honestly, I came here hoping that I could find a chamango/magoneada. Nope, they didn't know what I was talking about. They had something similar, Mango Chili smoothie. Okay, I got that instead. I should've gotten the regular to share because that actually looked like a normal sized Medium drink. What was missing in this were chunks of mangos (which is what a Chamango has) But nonetheless it was really refreshing, spicy and sour and GREAT. The tamarind straw was a bit too thick and chewy in my opinion. Now onto the torta. Lord almighty, they have so many options… it's overwhelming! Everyone here mentioned it already, but I'll mention it to in case it's not expressed enough… You have to wait a long time for the torta to be stacked. This sandwich is not a joke. It's good for two people to share ($9). I believe we had the De La Casa. It's cheesy, meaty, bursting with flavaaaa. Get it, it's bomb. Enough said.

  5. This place is so indiscretely amazing. It is in the back of a convenience store, but they make amazing tortas. I ate the al pastor torta and will definitely be back again.

    Well done!

  6. Like Tom Hanks in the search of the holy grail in The Da Vinci Code — after searching high and low all around New York City, I have finally discovered the HOLY GRAIL OF TORTAS at Don Pepe's!

With 43 tortas to choose from, YES 43! Even the pickiest eater will find something to like here. If I could give this place an award, I would give it the award for the best tortas in all of NYC! Luckily for me, it's nearby in the Mexican food haven of Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

I am super surprised this place doesn't have more reviews, and for now it's still the hidden gem of tortas and smoothies! I haven't tried the smoothies yet, but from reading the other reviews I will definitely come back and try one! They smelled delicious and all of the ingredients were fresh.

I typically go for tortas with chicken in them, but I saw that the Hawaiiana torta had good reviews, so I decided to try it! Plus I also am huge fan of pineapple, so figured it would be different if I had it in my torta.

It was HUGE and I could barely eat it all! It was hot to serve filed with pork fillet, ham, pineapple and cheese. Prepared inside with avocado, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos and refried beans. Be warned, it was a little spicy. If do not want any torta spicy, order it without the jalapenos.

The atmosphere was really casual and to order your torta you go up to the counter in the back of the store where the guy freshly cooks it in front of you. Also, if you don't know Spanish don't be worried! The menu is huge and has a photo of what each torta exactly looks like with the ingredients listed in Spanish and in English. Also for purchase are little handcrafts and food imported from Mexico.

The tortas ranged from $8-$10 and so did the very large juices. If you are in the mood for a torta or maybe even feeling on that health kick and want a smoothie, Don Pepe is your spot to go!

  7. I've been eating a lot of sandwiches lately. And by lately, I mean the last 30 years or so. And I can honestly say that I've never had a sandwich like the tortas they've got here.

These things are just stacks on stacks on stacks of FLAVOR.

I got the Hawaiiana: carne enchilada, jamon, tocino, piña, queso fresco, quesillo (doble queso).
For you gringos: spicy pork, ham, bacon, pineapple, and cheese (these are all my favorite things).

My friend got the Espagnola: salchicha, jamon, tocino, huevo, queso fresco, quesillo, papas de casa. I'm not going to translate that one, because you should have learned Spanish by now.

We split them, and I must tell you, both of these tortas were massively, painfully delicious. So many flavors. So much happy.

    Downsides:
    1. You've got to wait as they stack these things. All good things take time.
    2. Eat the whole thing, and you will destroy your entire day. And possibly your health. But as they say, if you haven't got a torta from Don Pepe, you haven't got anything.

  8. Food: 4.0/5.0
    Service: 2.0/5.0
    Value: 3.0/5.0
    Decor: 2.5/5.0
    Overall: 3.5/5.0

Strong offering of very well-sized and tasty tortas in Sunset Park, though a tad more ambitiously-priced than I would have imagined.  Definitely worth trying, though the juices at the front of the store aren't a must-do.  Accepts credit cards!
