Not much I can say about this place.
The ramen was really not that great. Broth salty and flavorless, dead limpy noodles and the pork was pretty much wrong texture.
Cheap as it may be, I would never trust a place that serves sushi and ramen at the same time; this is a sign that neither will be good. Stop by only if you are in a rush; it doesn't look busy and the service is very quick.
I ordered this delivery to my office at Broadway & Houston and it arrived hot and fresh — which was great because it was a cold and wet day.
I got the pork lunch special with the california roll. The sushi was good and fresh and the soup was good and a good sized portion. The shoyu could have used a little more soy sauce but I added some and it was perfect.
I'll keep this on the short list of places near work — I really liked it!
The ramen was highly disappointing. Broth was thin in both flavor and texture, the noodles were mushy and the char siu dry and tasteless. I came here because it was a cold, wet night in NYC and Unami Shoppu was less than a block from my hotel. I was terribly unhappy with the bowl I got. This, in addition to the fact that they do not have a liquor or even a beer and wine license, made for an entirely forgettable dining experience. The single bright spot were the pork buns, which were outstanding and considerably better than at Ippudo. But, the point was to get good ramen and Unami Shoppu failed miserably.
The spicy chicken ramen was fantastic. I just so happened to walk by this place while shopping in manhattan. It looked so cozy from the outside so I gave them a try. Im glad I did. The quality and taste was exellent.
I ordered take-out/delivery – so your dining experience may be different from mine.
I was craving ramen in this frigid weather and so I went on Grubhub and found Umami Shoppu. Checked out the reviews on Yelp, ordered their Char Siu Ramen that came with 2 pieces of gyoza and 2 hours later… major stomachache.
This is probably the worse ramen (mostly frozen products) I've ever eaten. The Char Siu was tasteless, the noodles were not silky like it should be, and the gyoza… WTF, it's definitely a China product and not Japanese. You can buy a giant bag in any Chinese Supermarket for $4 and it gets you over 30 gyoza VS. paying $4 for 5 here; IF you actually liked the gyoza. OMG… the broth… ewwlll… all I tasted was salt, salt and more salt.
The 1 star was for the delivery service – it was on-time as it stated from Grubhub. Overall a bad experience with below mediocre food. I would prefer to forget this experience… however my stomach is telling me otherwise.
Totally decent ramen. Pork buns have a nice twist with cucumber. I thought this tasted very nice and fresh. Pork had a little bit too much fat, though.
This place is BYOB!
Ordered the spicy pork ramen and chicken teriyaki ramen. Bother were delicious but the chicken teriyaki was seriously outrageous. Had a very nice, complex flavor.
Only complaint on the ramen is that is really needed to be served a bit hotter. Before we were finished, the ramen was lukewarm. Not happy about that.
Fried ice cream was just okay.
Overall solid ramen. I would return.
Surprised to find a ramen shop of such good quality in this neighborhood. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection, broth was somewhat on the saltier side but not too bad. Sushi was fresh and yummy.
Service at this place is what stands out the most. The wait staff was extremely attentive and helpful in helping us decided on our order. William, the owner was extremely friendly and warm as well, and greeted us personally.
5 stars for service
4 stars for ramen
5 stars for sushi
5 stars for cleanliness
Thank you Umami for satisfying my ramen cravings after roaming around Manhattan on errands.
Everything we got here was fried. This isn't necessarily a bad thing of course, but it wasn't what we were expecting at all (you order salmon from a Japanese place do you expect it to be fried). That said, the taste was there for the most part. The best thing we had was the kaarage (again fried).
We ordered take-out so no opinion on service, et al. Not sure if we would order here again, but we may give it another chance if we want quick and tasty fried Japanese food.
