Happy we made reservations on a Saturday night for dinner, because it was pretty busy. We ordered the margs right away, which were delicious. Like many other upscale Mexican eateries in the city, they do not offer complimentary chips and salsa. Chips ($6) and salsa ($3 for a tiny bowl) add up really quickly. For two people we ordered 4 salsas and felt like we could have eaten a lot more. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I ordered the Vegetales a la Parilla (basically just a ton of grilled veggies) as my entree. Loved it! My date ordered the steak tacos and was very happy with his order as well.
Servers were friendly, food was tasty, and we got free tequila shots! This restaurant would be great for a date or for dinner with friends. I'll definitely be back!
3.5/ rounding up
Came here for brunch (after getting up way too early to help a buddy move). They have a $25 entree + all u can drink for an hour. Not a ton of time, but I'm solid at alcoholic time management. The egg dish I got wasn't bad, but not great. They do have a homemade hot sauce tho which is solid. The fries are also pretty legit.
Drinks weren't bad. After some initial light harassment, they realized I was a serious drinker and they got me refills quickly.
I'd come back and try some other dishes/ good brunch deal.
My lord, the fresh guacamole is good! I love that you can customize the spiciness. The quesadillas are also excellent.
The food here is excellent and the service is even better. Glasses are always filled and the wait staff is super prompt with anything you may need. It's also nice that the manager (?) is always there overseeing everything to make sure all clients are satisfied.
5 stars for being the best Mexican experience on the UES!
I don't usually write a review before eating at a restaurant but the service was so bad that I am forced to.
We made a reservation for a large group on a Saturday evening. When we arrived the hostess had no record one had been made but said she would be able to accommodate us. The hostess told us we must have made the reservation at the other location. We were told we would need to wait just 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we were still standing on the street watching others be seated. The hostess made no attempt to make space or give us an update.
We provided her with a phone record to show that is was actually this location where the reservation had been made and her only response was that she was out that day. I understand reservations get lost but stand up for your mistake and either attempt to make it right or tell us there is nothing you can do. Having us wait because she claim you are trying to make room is horrible customer service.
I had high hopes for you but sadly, you have disappointed me. Unlimited brunch for $25 is a great deal but the service just wasn't there. The whole time we were there, there were at max 6 other people in there with us at any given time – however, we were made to feel like they were rushing us out. It's one thing if there was a line out the door and we were lingering after our meal, but literally NO ONE is there – what's the rush? Also, they came by with the check probably the second that our hour limit was up and then kept coming back to see if we were ready to pay. I get it, rules are rules but it leads me to believe that we were gypped because we took forever to decide on what we wanted to eat. Again, it wasn't even like we were chugging your water downed mimosas and needed a refill every couple of minutes. The fish tacos were decent but the portion was super small.
I was venturing out in NYC on 1st and walked around and around trying to decide what I wanted. I know I needed a drink but my taste buds were all over the place. I stopped in the cute little spot and said what the he'll Mexican it is . Boy was I glad I did. A very nice and friendly gentleman sat me down . He had a great spunk about him. I ordered a Corona light and they placed chips and salsa on the table. The salsa is super yummy just the right amount of kick. Now they immediately ask if you want Guacamole which they make tableside . Since I was solo I didn't order but it was ordered by many people around me. I ordered Chochinito Pabil and I have to say it was amazing from the tender cooked pork had so much flavor and melted in your mouth. The sauce that is on it super delicious along with the Cilantro rice ( I'm sure you could substitute if you don't like cilantro) and sweet Plantains . A medley of heavenly food. Someone next to me ordered the Burrito and it was Huge and looked amazing as well. So if your in the area and feeling like some Mexican this is the place to go.
Friday night and was just hoping that this place was not packed. The space isn't large, though they make the most of what's available. Tables all around the edges with waitresses shimmying down the middle.
Always have to start off with the guacamole, this time a pineapple version ($13). Waiter wheels in a guac-making station, and I get really excited. Decided to get the really spicy version, and he proceeds to make the guac with a couple avocados, a plethora of pineapple, and spices. Comes out super chunky and satisfying. For a drink I got the Michelada ($8), a marriage of beer and spices that went too far into the spice side. Didn't like it. For the meal I ordered the grilled chicken fajitas ($17) – grilled chicken on a bed of veggies with tortillas to the side. When you normally think of this dish, you see sizzling pans being delivered to your table. I got a mildly smoking dish with warm chicken and unseasoned veggies. The sauce was minimal on the chicken and had to add the previous ordered guacamole for flavor.
As for the service, the appetizer came fast, but the meal took some time. At the price they charge, was hoping for much more flavorful food. Come here for the guacamole and that's it.
festive atmosphere for sure. margs are not for the faint of heart. guacamole prep table side is an upsell they try to push on ya that you sorta cannot say no to (or at least i cant bc im always starving). as guac is in this crazy city, it aint cheap, but its legit. if youre like me and youre constantly on a budget bc the man is keepin ya down, id stick to ordering apps and dranks. other mexican food awaits that may be easier on your pocket.
