I planned a Girls Night Out with a few friends on a Sat night. I remembered one of the belly dancer who performed at my wedding hosted performances at Hush (Unfortunately, they don't perform at this location anymore). So, we decided to grab a few drinks and see what was happening at this lounge. The interior is ultra sexy, it gives off an alluring and exotic vibe. There's a beautiful outdoor garden with tables and patio for those who want to dine and drink. The bar faces adjacent to the curtain room for hookah service.
We ordered a few rounds. I had the two Hush Mojitos and upon recommendation by the female bartenders, a Caipirinha (a taste of Brazil, made with lime sugar and Sagatiba Cachaca or Brazilian sugar cane spirit). That was off the hook! My girl friends had the Raspberry Crush and Chocolate Martini which they said was delicious. We shared some appetizers, the hummus plate with pita bread and crudités and Calamari with spicy marinara sauce and chipotle mayonnaise was awesome. It was good for a light bite before our drinks. We also ordered the mint hookah to relax and rewind. We even scored an extra round on the house thanks to a few new friends. 😉
When the music dimmed, it felt like we were on the set of *Arabian nights with the DJ rocking out the songs. Music was great, we did the shimmy and hip twist just like belly dancers. It was lots of fun!
*Note: Hush has a very diverse crowd, although the staff are mostly Bulgarians, Russians, Persians, Italians…we haven't spot any Arabians in the house.
Def. a secret spot. Not many ppl. would know about it. Great place to go for something different. Has hookah, no charge, great for big groups of friends. Def. a place to go if you don't want to hit up the city. One of the rare finds. Plays tech/house/rave music with a little hip hop. Food is quite good. Drinks are cheap!
This place is OK. I came here for a quick drink with people who like hookah. Jameson is $7 a glass and they have a very generous pour. Though my friend ordered a sex on the beach and said it was pretty bad, didn't taste anything like it was supposed to. The food was fine, out of the shrimp, mozzarella sticks and buffalo fingers I liked the shrimp best. We thought it was odd that the hot food came with freezing cold marinara sauce. I think we ordered food around midnight so the kitchen stays open fairly late. The place is definitely geared towards dancing, that's the music they played and it was painfully loud. We happened to be seated right underneath a speaker and decided to leave because we couldn't yell loud enough to hear each other talk. I didn't really enjoy myself but that's because this place just isn't for me, if you like dancing and hookah you'll have a blast. Table service was good, very nice clean bathrooms. Bouncer has the typical bouncer attitude, though I was surprised to see that they had one in the first place.
This is a very cute spot. Loved the design and decoration. Nice to have an establishment so close to me like this. Great backyard space. Really nice to come to on a warm summer night, relax and have a drink outside. Prices are reasonable. The Hush Mess drink is great. 3 flavored vodka's, triple sec and pineapple juice. Very strong and yum! Definitely not a fan of the music they usually play, but that's not their fault. That's mine for being a rock girl and visiting this place! I had three problems with this place. The service was really crappy. Our waitress was a girl who looked completely out of it and totally scatterbrained. She showed more attention to people who came after us which is totally bogus. The menus they gave us were all waterlogged/stained. The coals of the Hookah were not hot enough. The smoke that we were exhaling was EXTREMELY faint. Everyone knows that the coals have to be hot enough to produce the proper smoke which should be thicker than what we were experiencing. Can't say anything about the food since I didn't try. The manager/owner was very nice and gave us a warm greeting upon entry and exit. I would like to come back and try some food options.
A girlfriend and I decided to check this place out last Friday night, since neither of us spend much time in Maspeth. The atmosphere is great for a girls' night out – they have an outdoor patio garden and an indoor lounge filled with plush couches. Although the food options on the menu were pretty basic, I really enjoyed my chicken pesto panini. The chipotle mayo sauce that comes with their fried calamari appetizer is great, too. You have plenty of options for cocktails and martinis, but I would recommend avoiding their sangria. A pitcher cost us $40, but when it arrived at our table it was only a medium-sized carafe. Otherwise, I was pretty happy with our experience here!
4 stars!… on 12 reviews. So, let me be lucky 13. I was bored. I went on a Friday night, it was …dusty. There were cobwebs int he corners and dust on all the lamps, and I'm not a stickler for cleanliness but I couldn't ignore the hanging dust balls. Some candles were burnt out and without serious inspection hadn't been replaced in some time. Meh, I don't know. This place was weird and maybe just not my thing. The best I can say is I left drunk? and the cocktails were alright.
Came here for our second visit today and I was very disappointed. My sister ordered the Caribbean wrap and asked for no cucumbers. She bit into it and noticed there were cucumbers in the wrap. We further investigated and noticed they weren't cucumbers but avocados. Then realized the acovados weren't ripe (very light and hard). So we asked the waitress if it was possible to make another without the avocados. She took the dish back and about 30 seconds later came out with the chef.
He got pissed at us and asked what's wrong. We said the avocados weren't ripe and tasted funny. He said they weren't avocados they were mangos (hard mangos at that). We're like this dish isn't supposed to even have mangos, because the menu doesn't even state mangos. He says, and I quote "I don't put avocados, I use mangos" we're like huh?? You just make your own version not what's on the menu? So finally the waitress takes charge and tells him to make another and apologizes to us as he storms off.
At this point, we don't want "special sauce" added so we decline the second dish. We're pissed so we finish our drinks and ask for the check.
The waitress handled the ordeal well, the only negative is she allowed the chef to confront us instead of handling it in the kitchen.
I was really rooting for this place. The food is good but they seriously need to restructure their servicing technique.
