  1. As far as tapa's restaurants go in upper Hell's Kitchen, not bad. My girlfriend and I had good pork belly and duck hearts (which apparently are not easy to find in the city), and they were both good. I was pleased with the quality and ambiance. However, I wouldn't go out of my way again to go here. There are much better tapa's restaurants in this city, and great meals can be had elsewhere (a la Traif, my favorite).

  2. Very small and quaint restaurant, perfect for a date night. The restaurant sells smaller plates (tapas), if you order 3-5 different plates, you'll be plenty full. I am not a sommelier, but if you are wine enthusiast you will be pleasantly surprised. Our waiter (LJ) was very attentive, answered our questions and gave a lot of backstory when it came to selecting a bottle, describing the tastes and even our food choices.

Don't eat here just to eat, take your time and focus on the food, you don't want to miss something. Great first experience!

    Good:
-Meatballs, (5 to an order) a must, definitely gave my grandmother's meatballs a run for their money
-Short Rib, another must, the radish flavor comes out later into the dish, see for yourself..
    -Pork Belly, different but delicious.
-Mushroom Tacos (2 to an order), tasty.
-Baked Brie, (saved for last like a dessert) don't eat too much bread beforehand in order to enjoy this.
-Wine: Bottle of Mosse Chenin Blanc 2014, not dry to me, but sweet enough to enjoy with everything we ate.
-Food came out quickly, not all together but as we were finishing with something, another plate came out for us, did not wait long for food

    Bad:
-It adds to the allure/intimacy, but it was tight in the restaurant. If spacing is your thing, this may not be for you.

  3. Came here for drinks when my gal pal wanted to meet up – she suggested it.  What a great place!  It's small, but not too small.  The bartenders will open a bottle of wine if you tell them what you are looking for and it's not already listed as by-the-glass.

Tried the food – it was very good.  I had the crositini with goat cheese and roasted peppers – it was like crack – I had to have more!  So good.  Also had the chicken tacos – it had a fresh, nice flavor, but didn't blow me away.  Maybe I was already so stuffed from eating two crostini, that it affected my appetite — besides, I wanted to eat the last crostini – it was THAT good.

My friend got the padron peppers and mushroom tacos.  She really enjoyed them.

We sat at the bar and it was great that no one was rushing us out at all – and the tables were also sitting leisurely enjoying their wine and food for a long period of time.

Probably not for a big group – great for a date or meetup with 3 max people.

  4. This is a tiny hole in the wall in Hell's kitchen. We strolled in at around 10pm at night, there was absolutely no wait, and the kitchen was open.
We started off with a bottle of wine. The cheapest bottles start at around $50, so its not exactly cheap. Our waiter was nice enough to let us sample the wine before deciding.
You can order a bunch of tapas from the menu. We had the baked brie with maple syrup and pistachio. The warm cheese went very well with the syrup. We also had the meatballs with tomato sauce, those were excellent. We also had the pork belly which was ok. Since these are all tapas, the portions aren't that huge, and they are not cheap either. So if you are starving, this may not be the best option.
Overall, its a very cute place. Its good for dates too!

  5. Food:Very Good
    Service:Very Good
    Ambience:Very Good

What a great little place to experience Greek influenced tapas. This is a small place, maybe 6 tables. It has dim lighting, excellent service and delicious food. Great date place if you want to try different things and have a conversation.
We tried mushroom tacos, the duck salad, the fried chicken and the beef short rib pastrami.
And I highly recommend all of the items they were all outstanding. If I had a bone to pick it would be that the chicken could have been seasoned better. Other than that a superb experience.

  6. Kilo, from the outside, looks cute and so very "New York City," in its quaint, overpacked, studio-spacing veneer, but the food was utterly disappointing. Yuck.

I ordered the shrimp tacos and my shrimps were over-salted and came dressed with under-seasoned coleslaw. I kept looking for a slice of lime to cut through my taco, but no lime or lemon slice accompanied my dish. A big, fail, no no!

My friend ordered the grilled octopus and it was over-charred and the garbanzo beans it came with, didn't carry that umami flavor, but instead they lacked in flavor and texture.

However, the bartender was really friendly and I enjoyed my glass of Syrah. But, the minute we half-way finished our meal, we looked at each other and said, "Yeah, let's go."

  7. Kilo is a tiny, unassuming wine bar in Hell's Kitchen. Definitely snag a rezzie, if you can! We had a somewhat-awkward spot in the back that felt a little tight, but otherwise, I really liked the vibe.

Our waiter single-handedly gave my girlfriend and me a great rosé recommendation. (We ended up having 4 glasses, whereas a bottle would have been a better deal. We couldn't resist another round!)

The items are organized by size. We ended up getting five or six different dishes. My girlfriend is vegetarian, and it was easy to find dishes that were interesting and delicious. We were happy with every one. The dishes that stood out to me were the Crostini (cumin goat cheese, roasted peppers, pumpkin seeds) and the Mushroom Tacos (shiitake, chilli oil, black wasabi, cilantro).

I would definitely recommend this spot.

  8. Kilo is an amazing tiny wine bar in Hell's Kitchen.
The wine selection is excellent and the waiters and manager always had great recommendations.
K and I joined a very good friend for dinner here. We were so excited to be in our old neighborhood and come back to the same wine bar 4 years later. LJ Hollins
(the wine director) served us wine 4 years ago and he's still here 4 years later! (He's the man with sideburns, beard and usually wearing a yellow or bright colored tee shirt. Very friendly guy).

Tip: Definitely make a reservation before coming here! The space is very limited and seats ~25 people.
We lucked out and someone cancelled their reservation at 8pm so we only waited 15 minutes.

    Food:
We ordered the shiitake mushroom tacos, burrata, octopus carpaccio, duck salad, mussels, crispy Pastrami.
The shiitake mushrooms were marinated in soy sauce and had a hint of sesame oil. They were savory soft, aromatic and appetite inducing.

I loved the juicy half fatty crispy pastrami. The outer bits were browned and crispy and the pastrami fell apart under a spoon. (Yes! A spoon!)

    Drinks: Albarino, Chenin, Vinho Verde.
The Albarino was fruity and light; the Chenin was a light crisp white and had a buttery finish; the Vinho verde was the perfect digestif. Vinho verde smelled of flowers and tasted of peaches.

The pours are generous and the wines by the glass are a great way to try what you like. If you are going to have more than 4-5 glasses, I would recommend a bottle.
