Ah, Alma. As soon as the weather starts getting nice, I'm willing to throw people (as long as they are smaller than me) down the stairs to get a spot on your rooftop.
Although it's covered, the open air and fantastic view of the waterfront/Manhattan skyline are well worth the angry looks from the people (as long as they are smaller than me) we elbowed to the side so we could get some seats.
The bloody marys are good, the micheladas are better, and the margaritas are best (on the rocks, because I'm not a child). The food can be underseasoned but it's overall pretty solid (although I find it odd that the chorizo on the molletes special wasn't Mexican), and I love that you have a dish called Huevos de Gringo…but it's really all about the roof.
Save me a seat. Or don't. I'll just take what I want from other people (as long as they are smaller than me).
I came here for drinks with a friend, and it was a lovely experience since I've lived in a nearby neighborhood for years now without having visited Alma and seen their view of the city. The margaritas were good, and the bartender was super friendly, but when my boyfriend joined us so he could eat dinner, I found their food did not live up to expectations and was pricey for the quality. I'll definitely be back, though, as the venue is quite nice.
We ate at Alma for lunch today after hearing nothing but great things. It was rainy and cold out so the restaurant was pretty empty. The service was on point and the food was delish! That guac was phenomenal. Not sure what the secret is, but I've never tasted such flavorful guac. We also tried the Chile quiles, shrimp torta, tres leches cake, and flan. Everything was made to order and tasty. The tres leches was the best I've ever had. So glad we had such a great experience- totally worth fighting the crowd in the summer.
I've always been a fan of Alma for many years. In the past they were only open during certain hours around brunch and dinner closing throughout lunch time which was extremely inconvenient. I was very relieved to see that Alma is now open all day so you can come here at any point of the day. The service was very friendly and I love sitting upstairs on the roof deck overlooking Manhattan. The view is spectacular! Alma has one of if not my favorite rooftop in Brooklyn.
Onto the food:
Guacamole with chips: the guac here is freshly made and extremely good.
Short Rib Enchiladas: I really loved this dish. The short rib was delicious! This dish was bursting with flavors from the ranchero sauce and the Gouda cheese.
Arroz con queso: this is one of my favorite dishes in the world. The only other place where I have had this was at Dos Camino's except they call it "Arroz con crema". If you like rice and cheese then your sure as hell going to LOVE this. This dish is amazing for sure!!!
Overall Alma is definitely a great go to spot. The dinner menu is a bit pricey for Brooklyn but given the atmosphere it is still a place I come to periodically.
Gorgeous view of Manhattan from the roof. I definitely recommend coming here on a warm day with some friends and enjoying the location. Great service, tasty drinks!
But on to the negative… the food (we came here for brunch) was extremely mediocre.
I probably would've rated this place 5 stars until towards the end of my brunch when I started to feel insanely nauseous and my stomach started churning. I seriously think it was something that was served here, as I wasn't the only one in our group who felt this way after eating, and I didn't feel this way before I started eating. I got the huevos Oaxaca…so be warned.
What started as a pleasant experience ended on a very sour note, unfortunately!
A friend mentioned this place & we decide to check it out this past weekend.
Big place , bar below , dinning area in the second floor plus a roof top area.
We took a walk to the roof top area since it was a nice night.
Once seated we got a Sangria Pitcher for our drinks, The Sangria was very good , nice taste could probably use a bit more alcohol but not bad.
Food I went with the Chicken Flautas this is an appetizer since It was late & I wasn't too hungry.
Good Flautas , very crunchy w some guacamole & cheese not bad.
My friend went with the Vegetarian tacos , pretty good I must say fried avocado w lettuce, tomato nice light option.
It was a nice night to be on the roof top , nice city views.
Good service & decent prices we enjoyed our meal.
Went here to celebrate my uncles birthday Friday night. We chose to sit on the third floor which is a rooftop but since it was raining they have awning which is great!
There was four of us so we tried the steak skewer appetizer special which was very tasty and the guacamole.
For our entrees, we all got something different so we could taste multiple things. We decided on the chicken fajitas, steak fajitas, short rib enchiladas, and camarones asados (grilled shrimp with a mango salsa). I do not think I would order the grilled shrimp again the mango salsa was yucky so it was just a few grilled shrimp, not worth the money.
Also the entrees do not come with rice and beans which I found ridiculous 1. Because it's a Mexican restaurant and 2. Because of the prices of the entrees. So we ordered a side and it was alright, not worth paying extra for.
For dessert, we ordered the flan and then chocolate lava cake. Both were amazing and I would definitely get them again.
Cocktails, We tried blood orange margarita on the rocks, the cucumber Margarita on the rocks, and the La madrina.
Favorites: short rib enchiladas, flan, chocolate lave cake, the blood orange margarita, and the cucumber margarita.
Overall, the atmosphere is great you can see the city skyline. The food is good, but t is a bit pricey. For four people to eat and have one drink each it was $268.
I would definitely go back for cocktails and dessert!
Alma is a Mexican spot with a upstairs rooftop patio that boasts a great view of lower Manhattan. We came for a Saturday brunch recently and had no trouble getting seated right away. The guacamole was extremely creamy, and we loved the chilaquiles (done in a really interesting way with thick, poached eggs.)
The pomegranate mimosas weren't particularly strong, but for $6 a glass, I guess I can't complain.
