  1. I had to update my review after my dinner last night, I am really disappointed in Mitoushi.
    I had a girls night on sunday at 7:30 , and when I came in the place was packed. I wasn't worried though because I knew from my past experiences that Mitoushi would have good service. However, it looks like things have changed, there was at least 5 waiters for the dining room which is a fair amount, yet it took over an hour to get a few rolls and another 45 mins for dessert . It shouldn't take 45 mins for ice cream tempura, and to be honest the tempura was soggy and it fell apart.
    Don't even get me started about my rolls, the ones I had all were made with brown rice and they all fell apart. They either didn't put enough rice or it was just sloppy with the way it was made.
    My friend's salmon roll was gross, it smelled awful and was maybe even spoiled. When we confronted the waiter about this issue, he thinks it is because they don't use onions for this roll in comparison to other places.  They were nice enough to give my friend a California roll on the house, but it isn't something to brag about.
    I also didn't appreciate my green tea being luke-warm, in the winter it should be hot!
    I did like the decorations set up for the winter; they had a nice Christmas tree and the chandeliers looked like pretty glittery snowballs. I also liked the snowflakes painted on the walls.
    So at this point I have mixed feelings over this place, I hope to see some changes in quality of the food and improved service if I return.

  2. There are quite a lot of sushi restaurants in the area. This is another average sushi restaurant. I usually stick to rolls like salmon, eel, and shrimp tempura. Those are my favorite rolls. Occasionally, I get the special rolls, but I like the basic rolls more because special rolls have too much going on with all the ingredients. With the basic roll you can actually taste the salmon, whereas the special roll has like salmon, tuna, yellowtail combined together. It all depends on you, if you like simple or complex flavors on your rolls. The prices are reasonable, but I can find cheaper sushi for the same quality in Brooklyn. Since I'm paying slightly more for sushi here, I thought the décor would be hip and trendy, but it was just modern looking and a tad bit nicer.

  3. Our favorite sushi place in Brooklyn. In a borough that has at least a few hundred sushi spots or as people like to call them half off sushi, Mitoushi has been able to stay consistent with creativity, pricing and one upping the competition for probably over a decade now.

    Order or Eat here at an average of once a week and will continue to do so.

  4. The style over substance methodology is prevalent in Mitoushi. I've seen this establishment since it first opened up. Since then, it's like we've grown together. I've grown, Mitoushi has grown. I've matured. Mitoushi, however, has not matured. Mitoushi has stayed the same in that it's more about the 'scene' than the food. Thus, Mitoushi isn't so much about being a restaurant as it is about being a social circus for the surrounding neighborhood. And I say this because if you want sushi, there are better options nearby. It's Sheepshead Bay, there is one sushi restaurant for every one person. It doesn't differ much in terms of menu options from the other spots, but it always had a very minute difference in quality and construction of sushi that took it down a few notches, especially compared to Masakari , Tenda or the newer Ocean Style nearby. The fish doesn't taste as fresh either (not to say it's NOT fresh, just not as) , which is the most bothersome aspect. In terms of hot dishes, just like the establishment itself, it has a lot of flash, but it falls flat compared to the competition; chicken and beef dishes rely too much on sauciness rather than the tenderness and flavor integrity of the meat . Tenda still reigns supreme in the area in this regard with Ocean Style hot on their tail.

    After their new expansion and style reboot, Mitoushi's quality has diminished even further. There's a bar to really emphasize the trendy, cool aspect of the way they are doing things. Ideally, the bar is there for people to hang out while you wait to get seated on a busy night. I don't think anyone actually does, though .  Friday and Saturday nights, it's packed, but purely a place to see and be seen. Who , you ask? Not anyone you want to see or be seen by.

    The good news is that Mitoushi's new size expansion now fits more people, so should I choose to go to one of the many spots within walking distance, I know a lot of the riff-raff has been rounded up elsewhere.

    Two stars but willing to try again in the future to see what's up once they've gotten over their physical appearance and have made a push to be a decent all-around restaurant.

  5. Felt like I've stepped into Russia where the fellow commie neighbors opened up shop to bridge relations. Obnoxiously loud patrons in an astoundingly pretty establishment with attentive staff serving mediocre sushi sums up Mitoushi. I will not return based on how loud the customers are and how small the rolls were. Thanks but no thanks.

  6. The appetizers here are very good. I enjoyed both kani salad and the oyster shots. My favorite appetizer was the Japanese pizza; I would certainly recommend it to anyone coming here. In generally, I like the creativity the appetizer menu exhibited.

    For dinner, we shared rolls and sushi. I tried about six different rolls and about eight types of sushi. The rolls exhibited a level of creativity mirroring that of the appetizers. All the sushi was fresh and nicely cut. I found the fatty tuna to be the most impressive of the offerings. It was very bacon like in terms of fattiness and slight smokiness.

    For dessert, everyone really enjoyed the red beans and green tea fried ice cream.

    All in all, it's a very pleasant restaurant for both outings with friends and family or a date. The decour is a very modern. The service is quite responsive; servers do not walk around filling up water and tea, but they will immediately fill up your glass once requested.

  7. Ordered delivery from here because my boyfriend and I wanted to try something other than Tenda for once.
    This place is about a block from my house, and I had to be at work at 4, so we ordered at about 2:45. 16 pieces of salmon sashimi and an avocado roll with brown rice.
    It was 3:30 and the food FINALLY comes. The total is $10 more than Tenda charges us, and we opened the bag and the sashimi was all over the bag because someone didn't close the lid properly. We were not about to eat sashimi that's been rolling around in a paper bag. AND I was given an eel roll with white rice. Why was I overcharged for brown rice, and why was I given the wrong order.

    I called as soon as I noticed this and the guy offered me a refund, he said give me 20 min, I said I have to leave to work so please hurry up.
    The delivery guy never came back with my refund.

    SO DISAPPOINTED!!!!
    Lesson learned: Stick with what you know. Never ordering from here again.

I feel like this place has really upgraded itself.  On Friday night, it's very crowded with couples, families, and just groups of friends who love sushi and beer.  They're equipped with a full bar as well, which definitely attracts a younger crowd.  Even though it appears crowded, there is a lot of seating so you're probably going to get a seat without waiting too long.

    It looks pretty fancy as well, really clean with leather seats, dim lights, and professional staff.  The prices are also not bad – $15 bento and $15 sashimi platter with rice and soup/salad.  The sashimi is pretty fresh, although the terikyaki salmon in the bento box was a bit dry, the rest of the offerings were good.  Also, not to mention… the sashimi platter was absolutely beautiful!  The lemon was shaped like a heart and they even included some kind of glowing device to really transform the dish.  Absolutely amazing!

    Although I didn't have any alcohol- the prices for cocktails didn't seem too bad-$8 for a Long Island, mojito, piña colada.

    I would definitely come here again – the staff, once again, is really great and the food, although not superb, is transformed beautifully.
