  1. Came in on a warm Spring day for views of the NYC skyline ( across the street) and a craving of fish tacos and Sangria. Bartender guy was friendly- happy hour had the red and white sangria- The red is better by far. The white may be missing wine… Tastes like welchs white grape juice. Fish tacos were pretty good once I was given the dressing that is supposed to come with it. Got a free sangria from a local after showing my license and winning the bet that YES, my name really is Sunshine. The tres leche dessert is a no-go. Their version is made with canned strawberries in between. Who ruins tres leche?! Ugh. Nice spot regardless- lots of locals, flat screens and tequila. Skip the dessert and you'll be fine.  Side of Rice and maduros are good too.

  2. Great Breakfast Burrito! The egg inside gave it a unique rich buttery flavor! I was very impressed as I love Mexican food and have had many burritos. The potatoes were soft and perfectly cooked. I also had the frozen passion fruit margarita and without hesitation the waitress changed it because I saw a small hair in it. It was a good drink.

The service was good and our waitress and bus boy were very nice. A couple of times our waitress forgot we asked for extras like ketchup or a straw but she was prompt second time around. The bus boy was also nice and helpful. He brought out extra napkins.
Inside of the restaurant was nice and air conditioned. The bathroom was also clean. Looks like a place I could definitely return to or recommend to people in the neighborhood.

  3. One fine Sunday evening, my group and I were craving tacos so we popped in here randomly. I got fish tacos, which were awesome. You get 3 tacos, which I didn't think would fill me up, but they very much did, so I would recommend them. Friend got carne tacos and boyfriend got pollo con carne. We were really happy with our food and our waiter. Prices are decent. Atmosphere is very dimly lit, rustic, casual, and colorful.

  4. Feel bad to leave 2 stars but I can't in all good conscience leave any more than that. This is definitely not where the locals in LIC hang out. The experience itself, and the service, were very pleasant. The booze was extremely overpriced. The food was average, at best. Wasn't bad, wasn't great, but no need to try and eat here again. I can tell by the way they suggest how much you should tip them on the bill that this is probably a place that less-than-reputable people hang around at. We wanted to like this place because it's in our 'hood and we can walk by it all the time, but just, no. Really nice people, really average and overpriced food.

  5. After biking to this spot from Forest Hills I was pleasantly surprised. The service was pleasant and attentive. My food selection was a chicken burrito, fried calamari and a spinach salad with avocado, queso fresco and chicken. Protein and delish carbs !!!! The salad came with a nice pumpkin seed vinaigrette that was absolutely delicious. The chicken burrito was nice and smothered which I loved. (It can use a little more chicken). Finally the fried calamari was crispy perfect and it had an excellent seasoning I would have this again and again !!!!

I was cycling so no alcohol for me, however my biking partner had a nice cold Negra modelo and he stated it tied the food together … Thank you to the lovely bartender who provided to fill our water pouch for the ride back !!! Wine would be better but I'm sure there is a No drinking and cycling law !!!!

  6. I don't know what it is about all these restaurants along Center Blvd (looking at you, Riverview Restaurant). It's like they came together and decided they could get away with serving subpar food for overly high prices. "Customers in the high rises next door have money, so let's charge whatever we want" [insert evil laugh].

There's not much special about Skinny's Cantina aside from the location and decor of the place. At the end of the day, food should be the main focus of any restaurant and it just falls short here. The guac tasted store-bought, the bun on the Mexican Burger was completely stale, the fajitas tasted like the ones you can get at any Chilis, and the "speciality margaritas" tasted pre-mixed.

Won't be coming back any time soon. Hope the place can turn it around because honestly, it has potential.

  7. Came here the other night around 9pm with my girlfriend to catch dinner by the piers. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the warm beginning of summer weather. Inside was actually much colder because of the AC than it was to sit outside comfortably. We were given waters and tortilla chips with salsa to start. After a few minutes of browsing the menu we decided to order the white wine sangria (originally wanted red wine sangria but they ran out) along with chicken wings as an appetizer. The white wine sangria was very light and a tad bit fruity, I'm really curious to how the red wine sangria tastes. The chicken wings were awesome! They were coated with this honey barbeque sauce and came with carrot sticks and cucumber sticks. We then ordered the steak burrito and steak fajitas as our entrees. The food came out within 10-15 mins. The steak burrito was massive and came with sour cream and guacamole on the side. The steak fajitas came with sour cream and guacamole on the side, along with rice and black beans, and warm corn tortillas. I had to ask for hot sauce because I like having that extra kick with my entrees. The steak fajitas was very filling and tasted better with the hot sauce! On the other hand, my girlfriend said the steak burrito was dry.

Some reasons why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was strictly for the service. When we were given our white wine sangria pitcher, our waitress placed the pitcher on our small table and spilled a bit of ice and wine on the table as she was pouring our cups. She then brushed the ice off the floor and walked away and then came back moments later and threw napkins on the table and then walked away again. Which then I proceeded to clean the table with the napkins she just threw of the mess she had made… seriously…? Also our waitress didn't seem that knowledgeable about the menu when I had asked her if I should get the steak fajita or the steak enchilada beside the price, which I felt she just wanted me to order the "more expensive" one.

Overall we still did have an enjoyable dinner here by the piers and the nice warm weather. Will be back some day! We need to try the red wine sangria. Thanks!

  8. Came here to brunch with my father. He ordered the burger and i ordered the huevos ahogados. Service was mediocre at best, had to ask for water a couple times. The server was more of a get your order and leave you alone until it's time to flag her down for the check. The food was standard fare, nothing remarkable, but not terrible.
