Last night I visited Nomado for the first time with a friend. I was actually at the nail salon across the street and noticed Nomado. I hadn't realized that there was a sushi place on the block. I decided to take a look on Yelp to see their reputation/ take a look at the menu. Everything on the menu looked great and the prices seemed reasonable.
They have a happy hour until 8pm on Saturday nights, which includes drinks $5 and under. I had a great Martini that I really enjoyed! My friend and I decided to share a few rolls. The pizza roll is the one that looked awesome in the Yelp photos so we decided to order it (we did remove the eel from the roll though). We also each ordered salads. The bill came to about $50 for the two of us. Considering the amount of food we had and drinks, that's relatively inexpensive for Manhattan sushi dinner. The sushi wasn't the best I've had, but it was decent and great to know that there's another good spot in the area. I'm usually always ordering in sushi from another place in the area two blocks away, but now I'm excited to have another place I can order from!
With their great happy hour specials I've wanted to try this place for awhile. Unfortunately was in the neighborhood late night after work and grabbed a roll to go. Thus, this review is on a to-go order.
Lobster Roll: Was supposed to be lobster tempura, with mango, asparagus, and avocado, rolled in cucumber and topped with eel sauce and fruity sauce. All of the above were rolled into a cucumber roll (which was great compared to rice and seaweed)…but it was missing the eel sauce and the fruity sauce which I was looking forward to most.
There was a lot of batter on the lobster tempura and would have preferred less fried breading.
Would like to try this spot again because I think to-go orders, especially with sushi, changes the true impression of the food. Service was friendly for the short minute I was in there. Hope to return during happy hour and change this review to the more positive.
Smple sushi place for lunch. it's similar prices to the other places in the area with slightly better service but slightly worse miso soup (a bit watery)/salad/food.
The rolls were a bit different from other places. There was a bit more seaweed though and not enough rice to hold it together so the rolls fell apart when dipped. Tuna/Salmon was OK. Tempura sweet potato was pretty good though.
Something between a 2 and a 3.

I've been here several times and there is never a wait. At my most recent visit, they had expanded their Happy Hour deals to include sushi. 2 specialty rolls for $22!! And honestly even without the HH deal, the prices are extremely reasonable and the quality of sushi is fantastic.
I've only dined here with pretty large groups so I can't exactly pinpoint specific rolls that I like. But I do know that every time I come here somebody orders the crazy roll and the nomado roll. Both are worth trying out! The whole menu is worth trying out haha
*Seamless Lunch Order*
I went for the lunch special that comes with two rolls, soup and salad. Only $10!
The salad was cup full of lettuce and a cucumber slice in a styrofoam cup (trash).
The sushi menu has some pretty creative choices. I got an avocado peanut roll which I would order again.
Overall, decent standard sushi take-out.
The pros: I was able to get a table as a walk in on a Saturday night at 7:30pm. The happy hour deal got me a large carafe of sake (which is always small…) for only $4.
The cons: Sadly, the food. The beef negimaki appetizer tasted as if it had been nuked in the microwave. I had three rolls–spicy shrimp and mango, eel avocado, and yellowtail jalapeno. None of the rolls was all that tasty or flavorful–not even the jalapeño made an impact–and, even worse, the pieces fell apart when I put wasabi on them. And to have my rolls made with brown rice cost an extra 75 cents per roll which just feels silly in 2014.
The service started out pretty good but then, after I was served my sake, no one came by and asked how anything was or if I needed anything else. My water however was diligently and repeatedly refilled.
Overall, this was a pretty disappointing meal and I won't be returning. Well, maybe for happy hour sake….
This place is neat. It took only 10 min before they served us salad and soup. The main dish took a little bit longer than I expected, may be due to a larger group.
I had sashimi lunch special. The yellow tale was not that good but OK. The rest of fish were fresh including salmon and tuna. This is the only place I knew that serves sashimi lunch without rice. It was a busy lunch hour and the server did put lot of attain to everyone.
Overall, I would like to go dining another time.
Ordered through Seamless on a Tuesday night.
House Salad – Crisp mixed greens (mainly lettuce), thin slices of cucumbers, sweet cherry tomatoes, and ginger dressing on the side. Simple and delicious. Perfect way to get in your greens.
Pizza Roll – Enjoyed the grilled eel, but the brown rice fell on the softer side.
Fried Red Bean Ice Cream – Ordering ice cream for delivery is always a gamble, especially if it's fried ice cream. Although the tempura battered skin was soggy by the time it arrived on my desk and the red bean ice cream was a little melted, it was still pretty good.
Food always tastes a little different through delivery, but based on what I sampled tonight, I think this place is worth an in-person visit.
