Sharaku

“All in all, lunch is a fantastic value, and you can sit in the glass enclosed front area and watch the village people go by.”

“Last time I came here, I got the pork sesame ginger set and although that was really good, I do prefer the beef yakiniku set.”

“Shabu shabu is my favorite, not to be shamed even when compared to the more wellknown momokawa or shabu tatsu.”

  1. There's a reason this place only has 3 stars…
Multiple aspects of my experience here were disappointing.. but just to name a few:

    1) Service – the host/manager is very friendly and greets you as you come in, however there is one waitress who is very rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. She wouldn't honor the price-fix, combination special before 7pm because we arrived a few minutes before 7pm and ordered once 7pm struck (because it basically took a while for us to flag down any waiter). What bothered us  was not that we couldn't get the special, but her attitude and dismissiveness that showed how little she cared about customer service. Skimming through the rest of reviews, it seems this is not a FIRST that people have experienced poor service like this.

    2) We ordered spicy tuna roll (decent, messy in appearance… guess you get what you paid for), yakiniku don (sliced beef & onion) which was 3/5 stars decent, and chicken katsu don 3/5 stars, too much dressing and salty.

The rice and miso soup (which should be CLASSIC ingredients in Japanese cuisine) were disappointing. The BF could not finish the rice as it was made w/ too much water and too damp, which is a first for a rice lover. The miso soup was average.

    3) We asked to get our food placed in a box for take-out, which they did. However, while walking around the city later in the day, we realized the sauce was leaking from our takeout box bc the waitress did not SECURE the corners of the aluminum container. Thanks lady.

Overall, would never come back to this place, would recommend all friends/family to avoid as well. Subpar food, horrific service, why would you waste time here with so many other good eats around japanese town.

  2. Really good lunch specials during the weekdays. It's around $12.50 and it goes on until 4PM which is perfect for those who enjoy a late lunch.

The portions are huge too. The lunch set comes with miso soup, salad, a few pieces of sushi, rice, and the main entree. I've been here a couple of times before and tried various entrees, none of which have disappointed. I would recommend the toro steak and sukiyaki (beef noodles). The sides are great as well: who knew I would enjoy the standard miso soup and salad so much? You get a little complimentary fruit bowl for dessert as well. So much food, so good.

The service is pretty good as well. They're really efficient, simple, and let you enjoy your meal. Would definitely recommend this place for lunch.

  3. Not bad! Come here on a Sunday night and walk in without any appointment. Not many people here and the dinner came in large portion while the price is cheap. We both ordered dinner pre fix menu with 2 main courses. And we went home fully packed and also held take out boxes. Haha.

  4. Came here just to grab a few rolls one night. I ordered the Philadelphia roll with fresh salmon, and two special rolls. Sushi in the city is on the pricey side. (A solid Philadelphia roll in Brooklyn is only $2.50) They have a house made spicy mayo, it's VERY different from the typical spicy mayo. The service was great here as well but I probably won't be back.

  5. Came in here since the wait was short on a Saturday, left very satisfied.

The service was fantastic, waitress kept coming back to check on us. We ordered the spider roll with spicy mayo on the side for $1 extra. It had fried soft shell crab inside but was not as great as expected. Little on the salty side.

The Sharaku chicken was well cooked, very similar to teriyaki chicken. Shrimp and vegetable tempura was crunchy and good while hot but got cold very quickly, taking off one star for that and the salty sushi roll. Both these dishes came with miso soup and rice.

The Nabeyaki Udon was the best though, flavorful and hot. Would definitely recommend.

  6. The three of us went to Angel's Share for pre dinner drinks and were rerouted here by the hostess.  This is the sister bar three doors down a more spacious which I preferred.  Nice cocktail selection.

  7. meh i've experienced better sums it up perfectly.  nothing disgusting, but definitely nothing worth returning for, and somehow we racked up a larger than expected bill

  8. DRINKS ONLY REVIEW

We originally wanted to go to Angel's Share but it was wayyy too crowded and I really just wanted to sit back and have a tasty drink.  The hostess told us they have another spot just two doors down, so we tried it.  NO WAIT, so great.  I loved the drinks Clover Club and their take on Pina Colada (made with raw coconut water!).  They also had a whiskey drink that they poured out of a pouch, reminded me of Imperial China.  It was a nice spot to just relax, have nice conversation and enjoy a delicious cocktail.
