“Castro's was the first restaurant I went to upon moving to Bed-Stuy, and I'm happy for this.”

“Recently, a restaurant called Los Pollitos III opened up in my neighborhood, offering slightly upscale Mexican offerings in a contrived sort of yuppie atmosphere.”

  1. My favorite dish is the Quesadilla grande with rice and black beans, comes with pico de gallo and guacamole. Since I order quesadilla grande without meat, I pair it with a hard chorizo taco, and it's perfect to have some crunch and spicy pork with it. I prefer it this way otherwise the quesadilla becomes too heavy with meat inside, and I really like the cheese they use. It's quality cheese.

It's really the only thing I order nowadays from here. Easy ordering on the phone and very good delivery service.

  2. The basic components on the carnitas cemita were fine, but despite the strong performances by the bread and meat the indescribable extras weren't quite there. It didn't have the flavor explosion of the best Queens cemitas. However, the cecina taco was a knockout, full of charred, juicy beef.

  3. I'm seldom at a loss for words when it comes to bad food. I honestly don't know what the hell happened where someone…anyone… thought it was acceptable to put iceburg fucking lettuce and cooked frozen vegetables with goya rice in a tortilla and call it a burrito.

If you're reading this – don't eat here! Save your money and get some food with actual flavor and fresh ingredients.

  4. Came here with two friends for margaritas and dinner. Worst choice ever.
One of us ordered a margarita on the rocks, two of us ordered the mango margarita. First red flag: there was powder in our mango margarita and we could taste it within the first two sips. Yes, you can mke flavored margaritas with powder, is it recommended when you advertise that your restaurant has "fresh juice"? Probably not. I wonder how they define fresh juice. Being that it was a time to relax, we ignored the powder, but if anyone wants to go for the drinks, be warned that the no-powder drink (margarita on the rocks) is a dollar less than the powdery fruit flavored margaritas. Why is the powder $1? I did not know that powder costs so much.

The next warning sign–they get my order wrong. I got enchilladas while a friend got flautos and another got fajitas. They gave me fajitas and when I said I got enchilladas the waitress who took our order came back and said that I ordered fajitas. She then said enchilladas had sauce, and I said yes, yes they do. She kept on repeating it and my friendliness slowly started to dissipate. She then pointed to her ticket and said I ordered fajitas because she wrote two next to it. Saying that you wrote down fajitsa does not prove I did, it proves you were not paying attention to me. I made sure that I did not want to order fajitas because I wanted it in sauce and I wanted it to be wrapped. She then rudely stated again enchilladas come with sauce. In case everyone didn't know by the third time she stated it, enchilladas come with sauce. She then asked me what kind of sauce I wanted and placed in my order.

Last warning sign, my friend asked for a glasss of water. The waitress said okay and then she gave us two cups of water. So either she gave us two, one for each of my friends and not for me or two because she did not hear correctly. Either way, I was mindful of whether or not there would be spit in the waters or in the food.

I am never ever coming here again unless forced to or if it's free. I don't want to pay for rudeness. I wish I did not give tip, and I wish it was more acceptable to not give tip for horrible service. I don't pay for 'tude especially when you got my order wrong and my friends heard me horrible. I also don't pay for it when you made a mistake.

  5. After me and my friends disaster at Waza down the way, we came in and were treated like kings!!!! This place is great, I don't care what other reviewers write. The waitstaff was highly attentive, maybe due to our all speaking Spanish with them, but who cares they were so nice. They made us some lethal margaritas, and I'm not for certain but the tequila tasted quite good to me, so no cheap well stuff here. Our food was cooked to order, with sauces on the side, sides substituted, etc. I had what might have been the best torta of my life and that's saying a lot since back home in Arkansas we have a huge Mexican population with Tiendas (bodegas) everywhere selling authentic amazing Mexican food. I had chorizo and they put a big slice of what I think was fresh cotija cheese inside and they tasted amazing together. The salsas- both the fresh stuff and guacamole were amazing. Once again, nothing cheap or canned here. Is it the best Mexican food in the city? Probably not, but nevertheless it is damned good.

  6. Looking for good Mexican food in Brooklyn? Look no further. Castro's came to me highly recommended by some coworkers and having tried it, it is a great lunch spot, and they actually whip up a good burrito. (If you're over on the Jersey side like I am, you will appreciate how hard this is to come by.)

In addition to all the Mexican stuff you would expect they also offer a large number of fruit smoothies and health drinks. I had an acai-mango smoothie which was delicious. For the main course I had a fully loaded burrito. Beans, rice, lettuce, beef, pico all stuffed into a well rolled flour tortilla. I was impressed by its ability to actually stay together when you pick it up.

I see my self coming here again and again.

  7. It was a nice place . The staff was friendly , but the food didn't have much seasoning and that's what made me change my mind about coming back.

  8. Came here with my sister on snowy day.

We both got Cuba Libres – hoping it would warm us up. Either we were too cold, or it just didn't have enough Libre to do the job. 😛

Seriously – this place makes a decent Chileaquiles for what I was expecting to get in Brooklyn! I would just get it with chicken instead of beef.
The Soupa Azteca was great! Might be a bit partial to this dish as it was snow storming outside! But that hot bowl of massive tomato and spice soup was just what we needed!
The Enchiladas were great! We were just so full already that we couldn't even finish it!

    The service was good.
The atmosphere of the place was cozy and diner-esque.
The price was great for what we got!
