  1. For years I never imagined I would find a place to compare to Chipotle.  I don't know what it is about that place but you can't help but love their burrito bowls and freshly made guac, right?  But then Dos Toros Taqueria opened up on Court St and the lunchtime game changed for me.

Here's what I like about Dos Toros – they offer up really good portions of food full of flavor but somehow they keep it light feeling.  I don't know how they do that!  I felt good after stuffing a chicken salad with black beans, rice and a massive handful of cheese in my face at lunch the other day.  I went back to the office not worried that I'd be spending my afternoon popping Tums in order to ward off inevitable heartburn.  My salad from Dos Toros was light and fulfilling and just overall SO GOOD!

And you know what pushed them a step ahead of Chipotle in my book – their salsa's.  That verde is absolutely lovely.  And the smokey sauce, which I think is their mild salsa, I don't even have words for.  Give me an extra container of that to go and I'll be oh so happy.  The chips were really good too.  Chipotle totally has competition, y'all.

A few random notes about this location specifically:
+ Easy to get to from the 2/3/4/5 subways.
    + Nice, bright space.
+ Quick moving line, and it looks like they open two lines if/when its really crowded.
+ Friendly staff behind the counter.
    + Free water cups.
+ Multiple seating options in the form of high top tables for 2, window seats for single diners, low tables that could probably be pushed together for a group of 4.

  2. I haven't made any resolutions for the new year, but I am certain that if I did, getting E. Coli would NOT be on that list.  Because of this, I've had to bid adieu to my beloved Chipotle. Let's call a thing a thing.  Concept wise and aesthetically they basically bit off Chipotle's style so I might as well do a direct comparison based on the salad I ordered.

    Ease of ordering: Equal

    Size of salad: Relatively equal.

Pork: Softer and more flavorful than C

Chicken: A little dry. C is packed with more flavor

Lettuce: Not as fresh and crisp as C

Salad dressing: More creamy and a bit tart. C's

Price Tag: D is a little less expensive

All in all, this is a pretty good option until my true love gets their act together.

  3. This is my go to place to grab a bite when I'm undecided on what to eat for lunch, especially since is close to work. The food has a fast turnaround, so you're guaranteed to have a fresh meal of each time you go regardless of the time of day. My favorite dish is the vegetarian plato.

  4. Stopped by on a Tuesday night to pick up some dinner to go. I'd never been inside a Dos Toros before, but had heard good things.

VERY similar set up and menu to Chipotle. I like how they melt cheese directly onto your burrito. However, where Dos Toros fell short is their lack of corn . . I LOVE the corn that I can add to my Chipotle burrito and I mourned it's absence in this otherwise very good, very generous burrito.

  5. We must have come at the wrong time, because we got an exceptionally rude server. He barked, complained that he was waiting for people to decide what they wanted, and whined to his fellow co-worker. The best part? He messed up my friend's order – gave her a bowl instead of a burrito – which she clearly ordered, if he was paying attention to said order and not being an all around jerk. She was so over the experience, that she didn't even correct him.

It wasn't even that packed when we were there, but that's not the point. Being overtly rude TO THE FACE of your customer and then messing up the order to top it off? I'm sorry, good food is not worth that treatment. Anywhere.

  6. Welcome to the neighborhood my beloved Mexican go-to!

How to order the most ideal meal:

    Tacos:
Get it crispy (they melt the cheese directly into the tortilla as it crisps. I'm melting just thinking about it)
    Carne asada
    Toppings
    Hot Sauce
    Add the extra guacamole

    Burrito:
    Rice (not vegetarian fyi)
    Black beans
    Carne asada
    Toppings
    Hot Sauce
    Add the extra guacamole

    Plato:
    Rice
    Black beans
    Carne asada
See if you can get some fajita for free by smiling
    Toppings
    Hot Sauce
    Add the extra guacamole

    Do you see a trend?
Carne asada is the best meat, always order guac, always smile.

  7. My experience was neither phenomenal nor terrible at Dos Toros. I was in the area completing a training for work and stopped in for lunch.  There aren't many burrito bars you can frequent in this area, so I took a chance.

The lunch hour brought many employees however,  the line moved fast. The staff moved fast but they did a poor job of helping explain options and offerings on the menu. Asking me " U want cheese?" Is not sufficient. I don't love my job but I try my best to be helpful and with a positive attitude. While food service isn't at the top of my list of careers, at least be polite without the overt SHADE sir.

I sat near the door for 5 minutes and got up to leave because of the stupid fan blowing automatic air everytime someone walked in the door. Annoying!

The burrito was packed to capacity with black beans, guacamole, a nice flavorful grilled chicken,  cheese and the works. You are asked if u like your sauce mild, medium or spicy. My chicken burrito kept me full the entire day and I enjoyed it. Nothing spectacular to mention about the overall experience.  Better than Chipotle yes, would I come back? No.

  8. I have never been disappointed when I come here to order a burrito or a bowl. Everything is fresh, they don't cheap out on you, and you are greeted by awesome staffs that look like they paid above average salaries and they deserve it if they do. Probably better than Chipotle overall by staff, atmosphere, and the food quality itself. I'll be coming here more often when I get the chance over Chipotle.
