  1. Dropped in here for lunch during work. They accommodated for about 13 people for Friday lunch so that was a plus.

    The good:
I enjoyed my burrito. I ordered the super beef burrito and it really filled me up. Inside was a mess of guacamole (I think?),  beef, sour cream, and some salsa, with a slathering of some sauce on top. It was messy, filling, but not the greatest in taste.

I personally have enjoyed the burrito of another Mexican fast food joint over what I had here.

    The bad:
The waiter wasn't very attentive to my table. I drink a lot of water and very fast but the waiter never came over to check how we were doing.

  2. Ravenous. That'd probably be the word to describe this ordeal. I was about a half bottle of prosecco and rosé in on an empty stomach and very much RAVENOUS. We spotted Lupe's after an afternoon of splashing in Jimmy's rooftop pool and oh so ready to feast! I must admit, the 'Grade Pending' almost fully deterred me, but
    #hunger.

I ordered the Spinach and Cheese enchilada which held true to its name. Cooked chopped spinach, mucho queso and a kick of cayenne? Delicioso. Rice and beans were present (but not for long!)

I also ordered chips and salsa for the table (2 orders) because #hunger, which completed the meal.

    I think I need a nap.
That describes the after feeling of this whole bonanza.

  3. This is a spot located right by my new job. I checked it out with a few co-workers recently.

It has a cool diner vibe. I would definitely recommend it over the place around the corner that always has a line. (Note: I have ever tried said place, but I have a gut feeling that the line is excessive).

It is a really chill place to grab lunch or drinks after work for a reasonable price.

It also has outdoor setting if unrestricted views of lines of cars heading to the Holland Tunnel is your thing.

  4. Wonderfully fun place.  We stopped by after 10:00 on cinco de mayo.  The place was lively perhaps even a bit noisy.  However, the excessive atmosphere created an intimacy – as all around us was white noise of friendly and joyous patrons and servers.

I enjoyed the tequila selection as well as the tacos… The food and drink exceeded expectations – especially as the expectations and prices were modest.

We really had a nice time that was enhanced by thoughtful and prompt service.

  5. You steered me wrong on this one, Yelp! I went on a not very busy afternoon, was told to sit anywhere, and waited and waited for a waiter to acknowledge me. When one did finally come over, I was ready to put both my drink and food order in, but, somehow the waiter heard "a tostada salad with guacamole" as "a side of guacamole" because I ate what I thought was a complimentary order of chips and guacamole and then waited and waited for my salad to come out. The next time the waiter came to check on me, he brought my the check for my one drink and a side of guacamole without even asking me if I wanted anything else. I was like "Where is my salad?" and was met with disdain. No offer to bring me a new one, no comping me for guacamole and chips I hadn't asked for, nothing. Just absolutely terrible service in a shabby restaurant with peeling paint.

  6. Solid Mexican that's very close to my office. There's plenty of space and lots of options on the menu. Their vegetarian options are really good and so attractive that I ended up getting something off that part of the menu.

I had the super quesadillas, which came with rice and beans on the side. The quesadillas were filling and flavorful – the veggies on the inside were really good. I tried my coworker's chicken enchiladas as well, which were really really good. Very cheesy with a small kick.

We came around 12:15 and it was pretty empty but definitely filled up by the time we left around 1:00. We saw two really big groups come in so they do accommodate bigger groups – and their food looked like it came out pretty quickly.

  7. The food is pretty decent here. I was looking for an inexpensive casual meal with friends and that's exactly what I got. It's a no-frills Mexican restaurant that's been around for decades. The food wasn't too greasy and left me feeling full but not gross.

The decor is a bit kitschy, but in a good way. The lighting is very dim and relies mostly on bright red neon lights that give the place a dive-y feel. They have a full bar, but I didn't try any of their drinks.

Our table shared Spinach and Cheese Enchiladas and two Super Burritos (one vegetarian and one chicken). The enchilada sauce definitely tasted of cilantro (which I despise), but it was mild enough for me to still eat. I liked the enchiladas, but I really missed variation in the texture of the food. Every bite tasted the same and had the same mushy texture. The flavor was good though. The food comes with rice and beans and a salad on the plate, which was a nice addition.

The prices are pretty good and the portions are large, so no complaints there. Overall a nice place to go for simple and casual Mexican fare.

  8. This place is solid. It won't be the BEST Mexican food you'll ever have, but there is definitely worse in New York City. I give this place a 3.5 for being above average for Mexican food in NYC, but would probably give it a 2 compared to other Mexican restaurants I've eaten at outside of NYC. They have a wide assortment of sauces which helps, because their salsa is pretty bland.

We got the salsa and chips, and added some hot sauce to the salsa to give it a kick. It was decent. Then we ordered the super veggie burrito, which was pretty good actually. Pretty standard beans, cheese, sour cream, guac, rice and hot sauce. The service was also good, taking our orders and serving the food quickly.

I wouldn't go out of my way to come back to the restaurant, but if I were in the area and was craving Mexican I would definitely go. It's also open pretty late, so it's a good spot to go to after getting drinks in the surrounding area!
