I was here last night for my boyfriend's mom's birthday with a total party of 8.
Parking: There's a lot on the side street to park if Cedar Lane is packed.
Inside: The restaurant is really small and narrow, but the décor looked cute and authentic.
Service: Our waitress was very nice and helpful.
Drinks: Someone in our party ordered a passionfruit smoothie and loved it! Just a note – if you ask for water, they just give it to you bottled so if you want tap water, be sure to tell them.
Apps: We got two orders of the empanada trio (just the standard beef and potato) while we were still deciding on entrées. I think they tasted okay on their own, but the sauce that comes with it definitely made it better. I don't think I'd order it again though because they aren't packed with much filling.
Entrées: 5 out of the 8 people in our party, including myself, ordered the churrasco (skirt steak) but with a variation of sides (I chose yuca and tostones). My boyfriend got mar y tierra (surf and turf/churrasco with shrimp), his mom ordered the soup of the day, and his dad got fish (not sure which one).
– My boyfriend's parents seemed to enjoy their food. No complaints.
– The steaks tasted pretty good and the yuca was great.
***COMPLAINTS***
– It took over an hour for our entrees to come out, and there was only one other table of 2 in the restaurant while we were there.
– My boyfriend said the shrimp had no flavor.
– Every steak on our table was a different size even though we all ordered the same thing. Some people got a small piece, some got a bigger piece. My boyfriend's brother even got two pieces. No pieces were thicker than others either, so it's not like they were basing it on how many ounces of meat each person got. They need to work on their portioning.
I'll come back to try something else because the steak was good, portions aside, but I wasn't impressed with my first visit.
Nice casual Colombian spot on Cedar Lane. They have about 10 tables.
Great value here. We had carne asado, and grilled chicken with steamed vegetables and plantains. Very good. We also had an order of empanadas. The order comes with 3 chicken and 3 beef empanadas. They were tasty and they come with a slightly spicy side sauce.
Service was great.
Definitely will be back.
There's a municipal lot on the side street near the restaurant in case there aren't spots on Cedar Lane.
I thought it was pretty good. The service was a bit slow, I had ordered a gingerale and the waitress brought out waters for the other two at the table and a glass filled with ice and a straw, no gingerale. So after about 10 min of waiting I flagged her over and then a few mins later, no rush, brought me the can of gingerale. Place seems very casual, cute decor. The bench I was sitting on against the wall that was shared with other tables, was lop sided or wobbly so every time anyone moved a little the whole thing jerked. We waited a while for the food to come out, but when it did it was delicious. I ordered an avocado salad and it came with mango strawberries and then the usual salad fixings. Amazing, one of the best salads I ever had! I also ordered a beef empanada, and wow was that tasty! Not dry at all. I had the option to have it fried or baked, I chose fried. Hot sauce came along with it added just the right amount of zing to it! My brother had a steak salad, which of course I tried and that was very good as well! Marinated nicely! In the end we all shared a piece of caramel cake, wish I had a whole slice to myself!!! :))
Checked out this spot for Father's Day dinner, and the poor restaurant was EMPTY. And there's no reason it should be – the fruit juices are made fresh (the mango is just pure duhliciousnezz), the empanadas are delightful (resembling a bit of an eggroll exterior, with moist, flavorful filling that is highlighted by the chimichurri), and the braised flank steak in tomato is completely unique and tasty. The tablemates got the platter for two which is just a giant bowl of meat of all sorts (lovely chorizo, drier chicken and steak bits and crispy/crunchity chicharrones) that is served with salad, but is hard to eat. We will be back to try the bandeja!
Not really into Colombian food but gave this place a try and now my mind has changed 🙂 All I can say is that I tried the empanada appetizers and the Bandeja Paisa for a meal and it was incredible! Filling, inexpensive, service was very good and the food tasted great!! BYOB, cool little spot. The server was very sweet. She even gave us 2 empanadas to take home. I will definitely be going back. Hope they continue serving great tasting, Quality food!!
