  1. This place is like an old friend I've known for years. I've been getting falafels here since the early 2000s. It's my absolute FAVORITE place to get a falafel. So good and it never fails to hit the spot.

It's grab-and-go for me, though there is seating outside during the warm weather seasons. You have to eat it right away for optimal flavor and perfection (it's fine if you get it to go and bring it home, but the pita gets soggy). I order mine with tahini and hot sauce. You should, too. 🙂

  2. One of the better options for Middle Eastern short of driving to Main Street in Paterson.

I like the gyro the best which is prepared with the traditional lamb as opposed to beef which you get in many other places claiming to have authentic cuisine. The kibbeh, when available, are also outstanding.

We will often split one of the platters with a few extra sides as these are typically large enough, with the included pitas, for two people and at around $11 are reasonably priced for the amount that you receive.

While there is no dine in option I do not mind eating al fresco in the warmer weather or taking it home to eat there.

Consistently good food prepared in an authentic manner.

  3. Have ordered the Galelia platter, Halal Platter, and chicken schwarma on multiple occasions.  Everything is made fresh to order and is very tasty! I love the platters because with their generous portion sizes, I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Don't accept credit cards and no ATM, so make sure you have cash!

  4. Shawarma, according to Wikipedia, is "an Arabic rendering of Turkish cevirme 'turning', in reference to the rotisserie-cooked nature of the meat, which 'turns' around an axis."  Put in layman's terms it's meat cooked on a spit.  What I got from Beyond Pita was something else.  And that is why I was disappointed with my most recent visit.

Now I haven't stopped by this hole-in-the-wall for quite some time.  For no particular reason, I totally forgot that this tiny store existed.  Watching Marvel's The Avengers brought back some memories.  The scene at the end of that movie where the Avengers are eating shawarma reminded me that I made my way to Beyond Pita back then, so I thought it fitting that I would make that trip once more.

I was hoping to satisfy my craving for some shawarma but alas all I got was disappointment.  I had opted to get the beef shawarma.  As far as I could tell the shawarma was not cooked on a spit rotisserie-style rather on top of a flat stove.  The flavor therefore could not be developed and worse the meat was chewy and rubbery.  The whole concoction was placed in a rather flimsy pita bread that could not hold everything in it.  After only a couple of bites, the whole dish fell apart.  There's simply too much in the pita for it to stay together.  There's tomatoes, cucumber, onions, and sauce upon sauce.  I don't mind making a mess when it comes to street food but in this case it was unwanted and unflattering.  What really got me though was the lack of flavor.  I expected to be wowed by some middle-eastern flavor but all I got was tahini and marinade.  I was really hoping to satisfy what I wanted the most after watching Avengers.  Unfortunately, Beyond Pita was not able to do that for me.

  5. I was looking for some good take out food near my area and found this little gem. Reading some of the other users' reviews, I kinda wished I tried the "Phillies" cheese steak from here first but I ordered the Chicken Shawarma on a pita instead and it did not dissappoint! It was delicious! As for the establishment, it's very small and it's strictly just for take out unless you like eating while standing – reminds of some of the little Middle Eastern take out places in NYC.

  6. I just dont get the hype!

This place is right next to my job so I was really hoping that it was as great as everyone was saying. My coworkers even talk about how awesome it is.

I went and got a falafel sandwich, first of all it was a 6 dollar falafel sandwich, really?!
But the sandwich was huge and full of veggies and falafel but it was nothing out of the world. It has so much tahini sauce that it made the biggest mess and made the bread extremely soggy.

    Meh- I don't think I'll be back….

  7. Small location which may not catch the eye, but definitely come here for cheap but some great gyros. As others have mentioned, it's not a dine-in spot, but you come in, order at the counter, and that's about it. The pita in my opinion is a bit thin  and the meat-veggie ratio is a bit low but I'm just nitpicking at this point. Price point is just right and portions are not huge, but good enough. Will definitely be back for more gyros and other menu items.

  8. Tiny little hole in the wall place. I ordered a chicken shawarma because I'm currently obsessed with them. It was very, very messy and basically fell completely apart before I could take one bite, but it was delicious. I really like the sauce. They had these greasy looking fried pita pieces to munch on while waiting. They didn't look too appetizing, but they were gooood and garlicy.
