  1. Two stars is for the mediocre food.  Ordered a Cali roll, and an eel avocado lunch special.  Attitude here is very negative, and the service is very rushed.  

    Overall, not a place I would go back to.  They just happened to be the first spot we saw for food while we were in the area.

  2. Miso is decent enough for what it really is: a Chinese-owned take-out Sushi Joint. The take-out menu & atmosphere make it seem like a special Asian-sushi-fusion cafe, but it's really not. It's actually a pretty good business move- for a ritzy neighborhood like DUMBO. There aren't much immigrant-run businesses around. Not even a greasy Chinese place. Miso does the job for sushi, for what it is. It could always be better.

    That being said, I was satisfied with my takeout order. For the price & size of the meal, I would give Miso 4 stars. I got the sushi roll B Lunch special. The rolls were a good size (1 Tuna Avocado, 1 Eel Cucumber) with a Miso soup (had a few cubes of tofu, nori kelp, & enoki mushroom). I also appreciated the fresh large pieces of pickled white ginger & leak-proof soy container.

    However, taking off a star, I wasn't a fan of the tuna being mashed up. The eel was okay, but slim pieces. They're generous on the fresh veggie in the rolls. And after a few sips of the soup, I started to realize how flavorless it was & pretty sure it was just flavored soy water. It all looks good & okay at first bite, but then it's not & becomes just..okay.

    When I went to pick up my order at 1:30pm, I was surprised to see the place pretty busy, with 6-7 tables & a couple at the counter. 2 cashiers, one on the phone, one taking in-house order.

    It sounded like the workers were speaking Mandarin & the head waitress was running around & yelling from the back of the restaurant for a family at the front to sit themselves. Honestly, this is just how Chinese people are- fresh from Mainland China. I'm being totally objective. For an overpopulated country, customer service is always abrupt, quick, apps CAN come after the main, it's 1st come, 1st served. There are also no FDA rules, so the review like cutting finger nails at work, is not a problem for a 3rd world country. And yes, since there's only one race, racism exists.

    This is not to say that this is okay for the workers at the restaurant to do. I've never witnessed this at restaurants in predominately immigrant neighborhoods, But it just sounds like, from the reviews, the workers don't KNOW any other way.

    I don't know if is go back for the food, at first I thought it was a good deal & was excited about the menu. But the food could be better.

  3. Unmistakably underwhelming sushi. Miso is not a destination restaurant by any means. You're likely to eat here due to it's close proximity to the Galapagos art space or because of the serious lack of sushi joints in dumbo. When we walked in here the other night not only did it smell like funky fish it was also nearly empty at prime restaurant time (8:30!) on a Saturday night.

    The interior was nice enough, no complaints. It was clean, bright and somewhat modern. My only suggestion would be to turn the heat up slightly. My hands were freezing and I wore my coat most of the time. Additionally, service was polite but really discombobulated. The waitresses kept overlapping each other."Hi! Can I get you drinks?" "No… the other waitress is helping us with the drink order." "Oh, OK can I get you appetizers?" "Nope, sorry she took that too". They both kept filling our tea every 4.5 minutes while the other one was in the kitchen or on the phone. While it was appreciated, it was entirely unnecessary. May I suggest a little more communication and coordination, ladies?

    Our appetizers were clearly mircowaved; the shrimp shumai was doughy and unexciting. Our sushi rolls were indeed palatable but really bland and disappointing. On paper they looked exciting with a myriad of  interesting combinations in them such as "papaya, mango, spicy tuna" but were poorly all executed. I can't think of any other way to describe the sushi other than "dull". The spicy tuna atop our rolls was fishy and tasted more like my mom's tuna salad than fresh tuna. The salmon was flat and all of the sweet ingredients like papaya were nearly tasteless. The sweet sauces (eel sauce?) that are often drizzled on sushi were almost non-existent. The one thing that Miso got right were the vegetable dumplings. While they're not especially difficult to mess up I have to give them credit for doing something right.

    TL;DR: 2.5 Stars – Bland, average sushi. If you're in the area and starving (like I was) take 20 seconds and yelp up another place on your phone.

  4. Wanted to post more pics. I did delivery today. Called at 5pm, it came at 5:50pm. Not horrible; it's been faster. Delivery ppl are great. The sushi looks good, can't wait to dig in. I ordered the house sashimi, green peace roll, seaweed salad and four pieces of ikura sushi. It came with miso soup and white sushi rice. I would love for them to have some quail egg on the menu, not sure why they don't because really, quail egg elevates sushi in my book… just ate dinner… yummy.

  5. I'm a recent New Yorker and one thing I noticed VERY quickly is how insanely picky and hard to please New Yorkers are!
    So I don't pay much attention to negative reviews and thank goodness I didn't! This was pretty amazingly delicious and I am a sushi fanatic.

    The vegetable tempura was perfectly crispy and tasty. The 2 rolls I had were so fresh and yummy.
    And let me tell you, the hubby is not always excited to go to a sushi place as he doesn't like sushi but he LOVED the appetizer and his chicken dinner. I tried the chicken and it was really good.

    Overall, really good. The biggest negatives are the long line, tiny space and LOUD service. But I guess those are kind of expected in NY lol

  6. Don't compare this to a fancy sushi joint, but for what it is, it's a really good deal for some decent tasting Americanized sushi. I come here often for the lunch special (2 fancier sushi rolls for $10 after tax) which fills me up decently enough. There's also cheaper sushi options for lunch special, as well as some standardized teriyaki meat fare with side salads/miso soups, which range $9-12 total. Atmosphere inside the restaurant isn't fancy or special. Take out service is fast when you order in the restaurant and you can eat outside in nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park.

  7. Terrible service. I come back because the lunch specials are reasonably priced and I work right across the street. Today I've had enough though. The waitress mislead my order and when I corrected her she refused and insisted that I was lying. Completely unprofessional, the manager should look into that. I left in a hurry because I had to get back to work, I didn't eat the food yet but I already have a bad taste in my mouth.

  8. Decided to sit and eat lunch in the restaurant today rather than doing takeout – was concerned because of all the Yelpers complaints about the service but ultimately service was fast, especially considering all the tables were full.  We got complementary hot green tea but did have to request ice water twice.

    Food came out fine: the sushi premium platter had 4 pieces plus a salmon avocado roll which were solid and the spicy shrimp and spicy salmon rolls my coworker had were also solid.

    All in all, in and out in 35 mins.  Not bad at all.
