This is my new mitoushi! I was slightly angered when Mitoushi raised their prices and the quality diminished. I just ordered from Nakata yesterday and I was completely satisfied. Just wish that I ordered more!!! It was so cheap: $1 for sushi/sashimi, $2.50 for rolls/handrolls. Fresh too!
DROOL.
My go to place for sushi in Staten Island. This place never fails me. I always get the buy 2 get 1 free special rolls.
One of the best sushi places on the island! They have have specials on rolls and as low as $2.50 a roll. There quick and the waiters are nice. I enjoy the avocado salad, addicted to ginger dressing and even the fried ice cream is great too. They offer lots of different special types of rolls and have a great selection on foods from dishes like grilled chicken & beef to noodles. I enjoy coming here.
So I had saw this place appear on the monocle in the Yelp iPhone app and ended up coming to Yelp to see what the reviews were like. Being on Staten Isand a couple of days I figured I'd try them out for lunch, especially since they have an incredible lunch deal — $8.55 for 3 rolls and a soup or salad (this is more expensive than the Yelp business info references at the bottom of the page but this is what their menu dictates).
As for the food it is very similar to Mitoushi, the quality of the fish is decent and it's fresh – but it does not compare to that of the higher end options on Staten Island. Although I have to say I did not try a special roll, which they have tons of options and it's buy 2 special rols get 1 free. That's kind of crazy. Anyway, the rolls were also a bit tiny-er than what I've seen, the shrimp tempura was one piece of shrimp tempura divided into 5 pieces (all pieces were pretty thin), typically I've seen the roll made with two. It's hard to complain when it all only costs $8.55 and it doesn't taste like complete crap. I also had a kani salad which was okay, wasn't packed with flavor but wasn't terrible either.
I ordered delivery and it came quickly, the delivery man was nice and so was the person taking the order.
Overall I feel that Nakata is a good place to hit the spot if you are craving sushi and don't feel like spending a lot of money. It will definitely get the job done in 2/3's of the price of other local sushi restaurants, just don't expect the exact same experience.
While visiting my BF during lunch hours we decided to go to Nakata. He ordered in many times from that place so I was excited to see how it is. Spot is big and empty as most of their work is deliveries, but I liked the space.
We started with Mango Kani Salad with crab-meat and mayonnaise flying fish roe. It was very refreshing and light. I liked it a lot.
They had promo "buy 2 get 1 for free" so we tried 3 of their rolls:
1. Naruto Roll with salmon, tuna and yellow-tail. What makes it special is that they were wrapped with cucumber. no rice. Very light and healthy. Good choice when you are on a diet. Happily I am not, but enjoyed it so much.
2. Love roll with shrimp, avocado topped with tuna & crunchy spicy mayo. They place is on your plate like little hearts. My BF's favorite. We like spicy rolls and that one was really good.
3. TNT – my favorite at Nakata. Spicy salmon, spicy tuna on top and avocado spicy mayo. Explosion of flavors.
Staff is great, food is great and it's a great deal. What else do you need?
Cute little sushi joint! ^.^
I thoroughly enjoyed their special rolls! My favorite being the Hylan roll…
The staff is really tentative and friendly.
Not my favorite sushi place but it's pretty damn tasty!
*thumbs up*
Great sushi and service. Similar to Mitoushi, but better cause you can actually see the food and read menu without having to open your cellphone light. Plus there are more specialty rolls to pick.
Food tasted fresh and it came quick. You can ask for brown rice added to the sushi. Buy 2 specialty roll and 3rd is free…great deal, especially when it's filling.
