  1. I was reading reviews for places in my neighborhood last weekend and read that this place was really good. I had always passed it and looking at it from the outside you would never know how cute and clean it is inside. I decided to give it a try and I surely don't regret it one bit. Upon entering it looks like a grocery store, but then as you go further in it's a quaint, little, nicely decorated clean establishment. Their menu consists of authentic Mexican dishes but they also have American and other Latin cuisines. I only ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was really good. The flavor was good. The chicken seasoned very well. They were very nice telling me my food would be coming out shortly every few seconds. I wasn't in a rush because I was admiring the decor of the place. I also noticed the kitchen area and there were pots stacked on shelves that were spotless! The stainless steel was gleaming. I have found a new place that I will get dinner from on those evenings when I don't feel like cooking. I want to try more of the Mexican dishes. I played it safe today. But not next time. I will update this review when I order it again!.

  2. I had this place bookmarked for a while and based on the great reviews I was expecting some amazing tacos. It's a mini bodega store in the front and a cute little restaurant area in the back.

I waited a while for my chicken and pork tacos were being made and chilled in the back restaurant area. They had quite a few people eating at the few tables and people ordering to go. They have an extensive menu of Mexican and American foods. I took my food to go and my tacos were just okay and at least very affordable. However, not great enough for me to drive way out to eat just the tacos. On the other hand, I will return to check out a heartier traditional Mexican meal to see if these yelp reviews live up to their hype.

  3. My go to Mexican spot. Ran by a friendly husband and wife duo. Use to have a deli set up in front but that got axed in favor of a bar set up. Preferred the deli set up, more old school new york. Frankly ain't no one trying to chill at a bar on Jamaica Ave in Richmond Hill.

Food is all around amazing. Particularly the chicken noodle soup, squeeze some extra limes in and toss in extra cilantro. Goes perfectly with the rice that comes with. The burrito (without beans) is another favorite. Flavorful and well wrapped, topped with cheese. Good time to point out the gratuitous use of cheese here is great for cheese lovers.

Guacamole is your run of the mill stuff. Tostadas are quite good here, again generous use of cheese, not a bad thing. Another staple here are the tortas, nice thick cuts of avocado and spicy jalapeños with whatever meat you decide on. Tacos are good, like any other good Mexican joint though. They never seem to have the beef tongue taco available though (I come often enough, that I believe it's just not available in gemeral).

Service is super friendly, just realize it'll be a bit slow since the wife runs the whole front of the house (bussing, waitress, hostess, cashier). During lunch rushes, expect a slight delay, husband running entire kitchen. Budget for this and relax, great place to grab a bite.

  4. Chicken & beef enchiladas in green sauce with rice & beans DELICIOUS!!!  Perfect!  I always season my food after the 1st bite.  No additional seasoning required here.  Spices are on point.  As far as the beans…. I've never had better & beans are not really my thing but these… Couldn't get enough.  Looking forward to returning & trying other items on the menu!  By the way….. They DO take credit cards!

  5. I really wished I lived closer to this restaurant so I could come here every day. A co-worker took me here one day for our lunch break and my eyes were opened to the delicious, home-style cooked Mexican meals served here. The restaurant is located in the back of the grocery store. There are a few tables and two televisions that surround the seating area (gives me a chance to catch up on the news!). The tables are always kept clean and service is quick and efficient.

I've been a fan of Jophsua for about 4 years now and I can say that the food is consistently excellent. Some of the dishes I recommend are the chicken soup (served with onion, cilantro and lime on the side), guacamole, any choice of the quesadillas and the tacos.

Recently, I returned to Jophsua after finding myself in the area and ordered a plate of guacamole and a veggie quesadilla. Same great taste I remember. Jophsua, I'll be back for more!

  6. I think I may be in love, delicious tacos AND they'll deliver them to me?!  What more can I ask for!  This is another place that I had no idea existed until I started searching on Yelp because I wanted tacos and I didn't want to travel far from home.

The guacamole is awesome; creamy with just the right amount of lime tang served with some homemade tortilla chips was completely addictive.  The tacos are great, simply topped with some chopped onions and cilantro served with some slices of radishes, tomatoes and limes on the side.  The tongue taco was so tender and tasty.  The chorizo had a nice smoky flavor and the carnitas were melt in your mouth good, although a bit on the salty side.  Add the green sauce they serve on the side for some added complexity and spice.  The burritos are large and packed.  The enchiladas verde were spicy and pretty good.

Delivery was timely and everything came piping hot and perfect.

  7. Pretty good mom and pop shop. Half the store is groceries, the other half is a dine-in section. The dine-in area looks renovated. It's not a fancy dine-in restaurant by any means, it's far from that. However, the food they serve here is quite tasty and affordable. It's literally a mom and pop shop. Mom manages the front including the grocery section, she's also the waiter/busboy, she handles everything out front on her own while pop manages everything in the kitchen.

For lunch, we started off with some tortilla chips w/ fresh guacamole. Chips weren't old or stale but I do wish they came out of they fryer for the extra crispiness. The guacamole is nice and rich. It's a nice light shade of green, almost like a wasabi color which is a good thing. When the color of the guacamole is too dark of a green, that's when know it's been sitting there for too long.

Next we ordered some of their hard shell tacos and two beef burritos. The beef burrito was quite filling. It's a large size burrito topped with melted cheese on the outer skin. It comes with a really small side of salad. It is so small that I really see little to no point of even having it there.

What's great about Jophsua is their hospitality and good food of course. Mom runs the front all by herself and she's always in good spirits no matter how busy it may get. They're opened right next to a Chinese Tex-Mex spot and I would choose Jophsua's Mexican food over theirs any day of the week.
