Went here for a group function and glad that they picked this place. We were a group of 26 people and service was not lacking which was a very nice surprise. They walked around with 2 hot Hors d'oeuvres. Fried mozzarella balls with tomato sauce and sesame chicken bites with a honey balsamic sauce. Both were hot and delicious. Next was onto the salads. I had the house salad which was very fresh and the portion was BIG! My friend had the cesar salad and it looked a little over dressed for my taste. For my main course, I had the Chicken Gismunda. The piece of chicken which I asked to be grilled instead of breaded was as big as my hand . It came with mash potatoes and mixed vegetables which included 3 slices of fresh beets. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh beets which was steamed and served with a little vinegar. The dish was awesome and I plan to come back to try other stuff on the menu!
At yet another Birthday celebration , Bonnie G. and I finally made it to Crabtree's which has been our to do list for ages. What a great decision!! This beautifully decorated restaurant is welcoming and feels comfortable from the time your greeted to being seated in one of the dining rooms. We were welcomed by Dimitri, the self proclaimed owner of the establishment…truly a gentlemen and it felt like we had known him for years. We were turned over to Christina, our waitperson who reinforced the efforts they put out to make you feel comfortable, never rushed and excited about what was to come.
To enhance the party mood, I had a Grey Goose shaken with twist and Bon had a Tequilla Kamikaze..Great presentation and wonderful taste and resulting buzz!
Thing only got better after that…for Appys we ordered Escargot and Pulpo…both outstanding…If the appys are this good how will the mains be….Well they too were showstoppers. Bonnie G. had the Duck a'la Orange….wonderful presentation with rice and veggies..I cleaned her plate…lol! For my main I had Swordfish…the best I ever had..Mmmm Gooood! the starch was delicious and the veggies incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared…not an after thought like many other restaurants.
We saw many other dishes pass by and they all looked terrific!!! As it was my BD celebration, the staff brought out a big slice of chocolate cake (drop dead perfect) with a candle and sang Happy Birthday! And, they took a photo of me and presented a personalized folder with the photo and their birthday wishes…what a class act!
Dimitri, visited us and we spoke at length about our experience here and other restaurants that he has enjoyed. Crabtree's is a GEM …not to be missed…And a big plus is that you will be shocked by the reasonable prices for a great venue with outstanding food and drink!
Back in July mom mom had my surprise engagement party brunch here. It was beautiful. We had the whole place to ourselves and there were about 50 people in our party. From our guests we heard some great reviews. The food was excellent. My best friend said "I don't usually eat buffet scrambled eggs because I love how I make mine, but these was amazing… Buttery, moist and fluffy". Others raved about the chicken which was also moist and very different, a cross between mediterranean and indian, the spices, sauce and mushrooms made this dish one of a kind. The potatoes were yummy and so was the thick french toast.
The only problem was that there was a miscommunication, my mom thought there would have been a larger selection of food, after coming here for brunch, she expected to see what was on the brunch menu. Because of the misunderstanding the owner invited my family back for a complementary brunch (see their website for the menu).
The brunch was excellent. I did not expect anything less. Crabtrees has amazing food. The atmosphere was awesome as well. Halloween is my favorite holiday and they went all out to impress! The garden area was decorated as well as the interior. Check out my pics, you will see what I mean!
Oh Miss Crabtree, I have something heavy on my heart…
Growing up around the corner from Crabtree's I must have walked by this restaurant over a hundred times. It finally took a gift certificate from a family member to finally get me in the door. It's not that I had anything against the restaurant it was just never at the top of my list. Tonight we go in!
My wife and I decided to enjoy a quiet dinner without the little rascals. We showed up at Crabtree's around 6 o'clock without reservations but the restaurant was empty with the exception of two other tables. The host was very friendly, welcomed us as soon as we walked in, and seated us promptly. They had some unusual curtains hanging in the front door when we walked in that we assumed were there to keep the cold draft out or quell the noise of Jericho Tpke.
The restaurant is divided up into smaller rooms which created a nice atmosphere for conversation. They also have an impressive outdoor patio area in the rear of the restaurant.
The waitress came over the table immediately and was friendly too. The menu is primarily focused on Mediterranean seafood dishes but also includes steak and burger options. The bus boy brought us a small bread basket with a very nice selection of fresh rolls, very nice. We decided to split the Sweet Potato Gnocchi ($10) as an appetizer. The dish is served with saffron cream and strips of Tasso. Tasso is a spicy, peppery pork usually reserved for Louisiana cooking. We both loved the flavors in this dish. This was the first time we both tried sweet potato gnocchi and we were both very impressed by this dish. Highly recommended.
Now for the main courses, I regret the main dishes did not quite overwhelm us in the way that our appetizer did. I had the Maryland Crab Cakes ($20), described as Pan Seared Lump Crabmeat, a "New York Times" favorite. I was disappointed to see the menu did not describe what side dishes came along with the entree. So to my surprise, I learn it's served with rice, Bok Choy, and a red beet when it arrives at the table. The crab cakes appear store bought, very well shaped with perfect rounded edges, not the true lumpy texture I would expect to see in restaurant crab cakes. O.k., I know that sounds whiny but I love a decent Maryland Crab Cake. The cakes did have a decent flavor and were seasoned well. Unfortunately, when I flipped the crab cakes over on my plate they were burned on the bottom. Very disappointing, sorry "Times" you missed the mark on this one.
My wife ordered the Rigatoni with Artichoke Hearts ($14). The portion was generous, ample pasta with plenty of tomatoes and vegetables. The menu also describes that it's served in a light broth. Appearance wise it was spot on. Unfortunately as my wife worked her way into the dish there was a lake of broth at the bottom of the dish. Way to much broth. She wasn't impressed and ended up not finishing the dish and leaving half of it on her plate. No leftovers coming home from tonight's dinner.
I consider Crabtree's a mixed bag. Maybe we made so bad choices for our entrees but we loved the Gnocchi appetizer. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. I think there is potential here but it may take another visit to discover it.
Great place in Floral Park. Food is best described as Mediterranean although I wouldn't quite classify it as entirely Mediterranean or Greek.
The place is decorated nicely; there is a medium sized bar on the right when you go in and the dining room is split into 2 areas. The whole place has a little rascal's theme going on – for whatever reason.
The real gem of this place is the backyard patio where they do a rotisserie every Monday night with suckling pig and other things.
I love me some pork (gonna pay for that someday) and they BBQ that bad boy perfectly. Swooooon.
The owner is always on hand (A BIG plus for any place in my opinion) and the waitstaff is very good.
Parking can be rough in Floral park – there is a muni-lot around the corner and metered parking on the streets.
A great neighborhood restaurant. Good and attentive service. Moderate prices. Goodly sized portions. Ok ambiance. Odd little rascal art n the walls. Bathroom door doesn't lock. Maybe that was me.
Grilled octopus was the best I've had in a while. Perfectly grilled, amazing pickled onions. Swordfish was cooked just right. A bit rare. Couscous was delicious with a slight chewy texture. Veggie were garlicky and roasted beets were divine. Tomatoes on swordfish were sweet and salty.
Hubby had pork chop with peppers and onions (could have been more) but just slightly pink and juicy. Risotto cake was delicious and same yummy garlic veggies. Too stuffed for dessert but maybe next time.
If you're in the neighborhood stop in. You will be pleased.
This restaurant was great. I had a baked chicken with sweet potatoes and sauté vegetables. It had a Mediterranean flavor to it. The atmosphere was cute and had pictures of the little rascals all over the place. When it is warm they have a cute outside area to eat. On holidays they decorate it.
Surprised my mom with an early Mother's Day dinner. We were hankering for food of the Mediterranean fair, but wanted something a little different. The result after a quick Yelp search, Crabtree's, Mediterranean-American dishes that definitely don't disappoint.
I ordered the pork shank, which comes with spinach and a mushroom risotto cake, and my mom ordered the truffle ravioli. We were both really happy with our orders. My pork shank was ginormous, I ate a third of it and was full. The pork slid right off and was fully marinated. I do heed warning that I bit on a couple small bones and they cracked. Just eat slow and take small bits if you go the pork shank route.
In addition, I hate mushrooms, but it didn't matter when it came to the risotto cake. I've found a new way to enjoy risotto, crispy! I would go back just to eat that all over again. The spinach was okay, it still had the bittery taste that drives me away from eating more spinach, but mama didn't raise no fool and I ate my greens.
I pretty much doggy-bagged 3/4 of my meal since I was so full.
Some other highlights: The rolls and the cute floral-patterned butter. The weird, but kinda cool Little Rascals pictures everywhere. Our waiters were really good, but a little slow on the service. I didn't mind as it was nice to sit down for awhile and chat with my mom.
