  1. I love the vibe here! Our bartender Joan made the best mezcal margaritas. The food was also heaven. The platanos con crema will bring tears to your eyes.

  2. I've been here a couple times now, once for happy hour and again for dinner. The first time was a while ago but I remember liking their margaritas. We sat outside which was nice on a warm summer day. I believe they have happy hour even on Saturdays which is when I visited. I came here for dinner (and margaritas because obv) this past Saturday. We weren't super hungry so just got some appetizers. I shared some chips and guac with my mom and for myself I got the Chalupas Con Chorizo Casero, which were really flavorful and the perfect size for sharing since they're really small. I also got a mango margarita which was really good and fairly strong. The only issue I had with the place was that towards the front of the restaurant, it's much warmer and there doesn't seem to be AC so we were kind of hot during the whole meal but the back of the restaurant is much cooler. Otherwise, great place!

  3. Came for a Sunday brunch. The place is surprisingly spacious inside, and they were awesome at accommodating our party of 9 adults and 3 kids! The sangria and the food is average, but what pushes this to a 4 star review is their excellent service. The servers and manager always made sure we were well taken care of, and when one of the dishes wasn't up to par, they swapped it for a new entree without any fuss. Really enjoyed the hospitality of this restaurant.

  4. Ridiculously amazing food, fantastic vibe, great service, all around 5 stars!

We came here for afternoon brunch on a spring Sunday. The place was full yet the service was still very attentive and prompt. Unlike most placed in the Lower East Side, this place actually has 6 high chairs so we were comfortable bringing our baby to brunch.

They have a HUGE menu… Tons of Mexican breakfast options, literally anything your little spicy heart desires. The brunch combination is awesome. For about $16, you get to choose a brunch item (I highly recommend the huevos rancheros) PLUS a drink (mimosa, bloody mary, etc) PLUS a small fruit salad (and this is actual fruit like strawberries, blueberries, mango, NOT just a sad slice of honey dew) PLUS a cup of coffee or tea. It's quite a deal. If you need more to drink, feel free to order their $10 pitchers of sangria, ALL day Sunday!  The food is super fantastic, probably the best huevos rancheros I've had in the city.

  5. La Palapa is in a prime location right on St. Marks. It's really cute on the inside  and has a fully stocked bar.

I had the frozen margarita which was so good, I've also had the sangria which is pretty good too. The drinks are great, always super tasty and guaranteed to give you a buzz.

That being said, the food is just ok. I had the guacamole which was decent, really nothing to write home about. Some friends ordered the quesadillas, one had the chicken and the other had the steak. They both said they were just ok.

I've had better Mexican than La Palapa, but I would definitely stop by for another drink.

  6. I like the decor, the space and the margarita Tuesday deal. Not a huge fan of the service. All of the waitstaff were moving at warp speed, so it required a lot of effort to flag one of them down. Once you managed to get someone's attention, it felt like they were dying to rush away from you.

We ordered the ribs and the grilled corn, both of which were underwhelming. The corn wasn't quite grilled. The ribs didn't have much taste even though it was covered in sauce. The $6 guava margarita was a highlight.

I'd drop by at the bar for the happy hour drink specials. Not a huge fan of the food we ordered, but I'm willing to try something else and give them another try.

  7. My friend said this place was the most incredible place in the universe so I had to try it. We went, I made a reservation on Open Table and they shoved us in the back room which was pretty weird, cold, and dark. I split a steak quesadilla with a side of rice and beans with my friend and it was pretty dece, deff not cheesy enough. The rice was AMAZING and their guac was ok. We got the special made one because I have a #pickybitch friend who doesnt eat onions. I got a glass of red sangria that also pretty good AND to make life amazing, it comes with a little mini pitcher so it wasnt JUST a glass- they get that the thirst is real.

Dont know if this is a must have but they also have a ton of authentic mexican meals so if you're really feelin the mexican vibe maybe this is the spot for you. The main areas seemed a lot more exciting and vibey with a bar and such and in the summer I know they have some outdoor seating but…. EH

  8. I've been to La Palapa a bunch of times now.  I've found that it's really great for groups, and on more than one occasion I have easily gotten a reservation. As far as food and drinks go I feel like it's pretty average. I can't think of a time that I've been and wasn't happy with what I ordered.

I'll comment about my most recent trip here since I actually remember it. I was there for brunch with my parents and cousins. I was feeling a bit hung over, and tired, so I went with some huevos rancheros and a gingerale. I felt like service was a bit slow, but it could have just been that they weren't trying to rush us, which is not always the case for brunch in NYC. The place was crowded, but definitely not packed.  Also I was exhausted and just wanted to go home and take a nap. So that could have been part of it. Also another thing I noticed is that we didn't get any chips, but other tables did. I don't know if you had to order them, if they came if you ordered something specific?  I don't know, I'm sure we could have asked for some, but it seemed odd that they didn't bring us any or ask if we wanted them. The food was good, and a decent size. I was starving, so I pretty much devoured it. They do have a brunch special where a drink comes with your meal and some fruit before your meal, but I just did a la carte.  Our waitress was nice/friendly, although a little slow like I mentioned before.

Overall I feel like La Palapa is a good, reliable place. If you're got a big group, or not, and everyone likes Mexican food, it's a good choice.
