  1. Food  is really mediocre. It pains me to say that because my friend raved about it and when I went in the decor and service were both lovely. We sat in the back situated above their garden. Our stay was accompanied by a musician playing and to me more importantly we got to watch them grill outside. Problem was the food was fairly bland and I didn't find the ingredients to be so high quality. We started with their house bottle of white which was terrific. Croatia has such underated wines. Next we had the grilled vegi appetizer. This had a nice garlicky oil sauce yet the favors were hardly noticeable in the vegetables and the weird colored mash on the plate was so unappetizing. For the mains we had the grilled tuna and the Dubrovnik salad. The ny times raved about the salad but I felt it lacked flavor though the cheese was nice. The tuna was cooked perfectly yet was actually not a good piece of fish. It had a large section of inedible fat and veiny texture. The sides on the tuna were above average. Last we enjoyed a crepe with ricotta and lemon filling. I felt it was dry and not tasty but others disagreed. Having been to Croatia I understand their food is eclectic and often simple in flavor . Dubrovnik is authentic in that sense I just didn't love the food prepared for my table.

  2. Vegetarian Review:

Yes, I'm a vegetarian, but I came here for a date with the fiance, and I have to say it was a really nice experience.

First of all, they have valet parking that is free, although we parked in the street.  The street parking meters only go up to 6 pm, so figured might as well just do that.   The area is definitely not that great looking though.

However, the restaurant was a pleasant experience.  Walking in, there is a coat check, which is really nice on the winter days.

We sat down and the hostess was very friendly, and they put out some bread and olive oil, plus I believe tuna spread (which I didn't try).  The bread was nice, not amazing or anything, but it's bread, there is only so much you can do with bread.  She said the tuna spread was really good, so there's that.   The service was also very friendly, they constantly filled the water in my glass (and I love to drink lots of water with food), and they even refilled the initial bread layout.   I think if we had any bit of negative, it's that getting the check took a bit of time, but we weren't in a hurry at first either.

I was somewhat apprehensive about the place because I don't eat seafood at all, and this was their main specialty.  They even came out to the table with fresh fish so we could pick out which one to eat.    I ordered the grilled vegetables, and it was pretty good.  It had a very nice taste, and good presentation as well.   She got a salad, and said it was good, and very fresh.  The grilled vegetables also tasted fresh, and even the carrot was edible, which is something coming from a carrot hater like me.

For entree, I got the vegetable pasta, and she got salmon, which she said was really good.   The pasta was excellent, and beyond my expectations and it was very good.  The veggies in there were well done, but the sauce really made the dish.  I'm not sure what it was, (it wasn't the usual cream based sauce) and it gave a nice flavor.  I eat a high amount of pasta from restaurants, and this one tasted very good, and probably felt the most healthiest while I ate it.

We shared a puff pastry between us, and that was excellent.  We would've enjoyed it more, if we had any more space in our stomachs by the end.

I think for any vegetarian that is apprehensive about going here, I'd say they should give it a shot.   There is really only one choice for appetizer or entree for you, but both tasted very good to me.   And anyone who loves seafood would really love this place, because the fish is very fresh apparently, and put together well.

  3. Had the last dinner in 2015 at this place. We sat downstairs and it was ok. I might try sitting on upper stairs next time.

They offer a variety of drink choices. I ordered dessert wine, which every liter of it costs 20kg dried grapes. It is very sweet and I love it.

For appetizer we ordered grilled squid as many reviews recommend and risotto in ink, which we are a big fan of it still we just order at this place to try-we were not disappointed.

For main course, I have the seafood plate with on top of linguine, which tastes fresh but too raw for me, especially the mussels. My boyfriend ordered a whole tail of fish-he just loves it!

We ordered the traditional flavored crepes for dessert. It has both sweet and sour taste in it, which is nice.

Generally recommend you to this place. It is definitely a great restaurant worth trying in New Rochelle neighborhood.

  4. 4.5

Well, I felt pretty fancy when my fiance surprised me with reservations to this place. We came here, maybe, a couple of weeks ago. From the door, they greeted us with a warm smile, offered to check in my coat, and led us to a nice table. The waitress showed us a tray of fresh fish and took the time to explain the specials and the kinds of fish they have at the restaurant. The bread basket with the tuna spread and the olive oil is fantastic. I polished that off very quickly. I ordered the tomato and onion salad, which was pretty phenomenal. Weird for me to say that, since I despise salads normally, but this was quite delicious. He ordered the mixed vegetables platter. I did not taste but he liked it. He ordered the vegetarian pasta while I ordered the salmon with the risotto. Yum. They cooked the fish so perfectly. Once they ask you how you want it made, they will actually make it that way. I asked for medium-rare and they did it. It was soft and succulent and everything was right in the world. For dessert, we ordered this pastry puff with cream which was perfect. All in all, the meal itself was amazing.

I docked half a star because we ended up waiting for a half hour for our check to come. It was a bit odd because it contradicted the great service we had been receiving beforehand. I would come back though.

  5. I was extremely doubtful that New Rochelle has a Croatian restaurant. My initial response was, "Croatian food?Really?" Let alone, one that focuses on seafood. Mr Man's aunt treated us out to dinner. And as we drove from White Plains and into the very desolate streets of Main–I really began to observe my surroundings.

Again, still dazed and confused, and not knowing what to expect from a Croatian restaurant in a very non-discreet, mixed bag location. At any rate, as we drove up, my gloomy outlook, partially brighten. My rationale was,"if it looks this decent, I sure hope that dinner counterbalances the esthetics of Dubrovnik".

We were immediately acknowledged and soon after, sat. Dubrovnik is a comfortable spot- it's not a large restaurant by any means,  but does have plenty of seating. Interior is cute  and well kept. The menu items are all defined and clear. Cocktails are definitely pretty potent.

I must admit that, although service was great.,i.e., my water was never empty, prompt attention from our servers and perfect spacing of cocktails and appetizers and dinner, I feel that the chef/ cook did not poured his heart into my food or my family's. My Branzino, though delicious, and tomato sauce was delicate in taste,( just the way I like it) was sloppy.  My fish and spinach polenta were either sprayed, painted and probably submerged in sauce. All components were very delicious, but the amount of the sauce- (for me)ruined the style of my fish.

With all this said, Dubrovnik is really a charming restaurant. There are more items such as their lamb, chicken and other fish dishes on their menu that I would like to explore.

  6. I came here for dinner and I was very happy that I did. I got to tried the cuttlefish risotto, chicken breast with mushrooms and shrimp and clams linguine. Everything was delicious but the chicken breast was my favorite. I know chicken breast doesn't sound like much but it was very tender and the sauce over it was to die for.
As an appetizer I had crepes filled with ice cream and nutella, It was pretty good.
Our waiter was very funny and attentive which only made the whole dinner experience perfect.
