King of Shish Kabab
“The vegetarian plate is a great way to start then I usually move onto the Majadara ( I think that spelling is close), it's basically lentils, brown rice and maybe some onions- so simple and yummy.”
“I had the falafel sandwich and it was delicious; warm and tasty with just the right blend of falafel, veggies, tahini and pickled onion.”
“A great place for some wonderful Syrian food, my wife and I go weekly for the BEST kababs around…”

3.5 stars for this place. For takeout I had the chicken kebab sandwich ($5) was good, not bad, but did not wow me. The baba ganoush was pretty tasty though, and they give you a nice big portion of it with a bag of like 10 pieces of pita bread that i couldn't finish.
Just ordered takeout lunch from there with my co-workers. Everything was awesome. I highly recommend the Syrian sausage.
This is a very quaint small restaurant and is very good.
The shish kabob is marinated very well and is flavorful. You can see the cubes marinating in the case when you enter. The restaurant is always busy so the food is always fresh.
The grapes leaves were very good. The borek was ok. It was a new addition to the menu. I don't think the cheese they use is the right one. I would pass on them next time.
The reason for the 2 star rating is because of what happened with the rice. The shish kabob comes with on top of rice pilaf. The shish kabob was freshly made and very hot. The rice pilaf was ice cold. We told the waitress. We kept the shish kabobs and she took back the pilaf. She said she was surprised as it was only made an hour ago. What surprised me was when she returned with the pilaf about 5 minutes later she gave us back our same plates with the same rice that had been reheated. Honestly, that just turned me off!

I came here a couple of weeks ago for a quick bite to eat. I got the chicken shawarma. The ordered the special salad with baked pita chips and lots of parsley, and a side of falafel.
I'm not familiar with Syrian food so I can't tell if it was legit or not but for the most part it was yummy.
The chicken in the shawarma was tender and the sauce was subtle. The parsley in the salad was fresh and was all over the salad. The only thing I didn't like was the falafel. They were dry and were not greasy like I'm used from NYC, the grease trucks, or grimy pizza classes. I had to wash them down with peach Snapple iced tea.
I might come back to try a platter or another salad.
I just recently delved into the world of Middle Eastern cuisine. Just a few weeks ago, I was helping a friend shoot a short film in Hoboken. As compensation, he treated me (and introduced me) to some Middle Eastern food at a spot called Mamoun's. Now totally in love with it, I immediately started wondering where they might be some closer spots to partake in such great grub. Then, a light-bub popped up in my head, and I realized: "Hey, ding-dong… There's a spot literally right up the street from your house that you pass all the dang time. Check it out!"
That is precisely what I did. I went over to King of Shish Kebab during lunch hours, and was greeted by a wonderfully pleasant gal who doubled as a server and order-taker. I decided to go with the shawarma (beef) sandwich, the falafel sandwich, and a piece of spinach pie. Dude… What amazing sammiches. Yes, SAMMICHES. Quite the contrast from my first experience at Mamoun's. As opposed to being adorned in a creamy sauce in the style of the aforementioned, their sandwich contained deliciously tender beef that was very well-marinated, and very moist without being doused in liquid. I was impressed at that alone. Then. I dove into my falafel sandwich, and was even more amazed. An amazingly seasoned, moist, decadent falafel flavor coupled with fresh veggies. Both sandwiches were wrapped in pitas that were softer than a drunk text from Drake. The spinach pie? No "wow" factor for me, but it wasn't BAD. It was still palatable.
I didn't have time to sit and dine, but I was impressed that this amazingly quaint spot was able to accommodate quite a bit of diners.
Overall, they just gained a new fan. I love the service and product. Winning formula. Gotta love the great feel of a small mom-and-pop business that truly values the people that walk through their doors. I'll be a regular now.
I wish I could give this place a better rating, but unfortunately I can't.
Wanted to get a quick bite to eat and try somewhere new and was pretty excited because of the reviews, but I was pretty disappointed.
Tried the kibbeh as a side to my shawarma sandwich, and the middle of it was ice cold. The warm parts were okay, but that first bite of ice really turned me off. As for the shawarma, there wasn't too much flavor, but it wasn't the worst. Hopefully I just caught them on an off night because they seem to have a lot of potential.
King of Shish is low key inside, but serves up great Middle Eastern food for a reasonable price. My favorite is the baba ghanoush which has a smokey flavor. The hummus is balanced and smooth as well. My family gets take-out here every now and then and we are always satisfied.
2.5 stars. Sorry to say the King of Shish Kabab is not the king of falafel or beef shawarma. I ordered the falafel sandwich and husband ordered the beef shawarma sandwich. The bread was thin but it was slightly tough and served cold. The falafel itself was dry and a bit grainy for my taste. My husband thought the beef was pungent and did not particularly like the flavor. Also expected the beef to be thin slices but instead were strips.
Perhaps we should have ordered the Shish Kebab?
We had recently ordered the same type of sandwiches at Uncle Moustache and the sandwiches there were delicious.
The service here however was friendly and the dining area was clean.
Perhaps it is a matter of taste/preference but we were not crazy about the food we ordered.
