  1. Call me a spoiled Californian, but the food here is neither authentic Mexican nor is it even good. My experience with El Rancho Burritos starts with calling and being yelled at by some lady that barely spoke English. I decided it would be best to place my order through Seamless. I ordered a simple enchilada, rice, and bean plate for $10.75. Yup, I definitely knew I was in NYC when I was charged that much for taqueria quality food. In CA, that would be $7 tops.

The food was BAD. The rice had absolutely zero flavor, pinto beans were dry and had no flavor as well, and the enchiladas… you guessed it! They had no flavor! They were however smothered in sour cream and the chicken was super dry. The red sauce was the one thing that I could tolerate. I ended up dipping everything in it.

The food did arrive quick and really hot. So I will give them that much. I think I had my standards set way high and unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. I'll stick to the Mexican food back in my home state from now on.

  2. I clearly love Mexican.
nice small place, the food is OK, but plentiful.
Fast service, very hole in the wall-esque. but it's not a hole in the wall you find where you're blown away.
They deliver, but so do most places.
They take credit cards, EVEN Amex

  3. OH man, if you're looking for a food coma, look no further. El Rancho makes SF style burritos, minus the steamy foil. They're packed with rice and beans, so if that ain't your style, look elsewhere for your cheap 'rrito fix. If it is, though, prepare to be full in a big way. I went for lunch, and our group of three narrowly snagged a table in this tiny hole in a wall. I went for the Puebla with chicken, and I have to say the mole is on point. Highly recommended if you're looking for a massive amount of yummy food. My only criticism is I would prefer more even sour cream distribution and maybe a higher beans to rice ratio, but that's just me.

  4. This is the best authentic Mexican in lower Hell's Kitchen for dining in or taking out. Skip over the nearby Chipotle and come here for a solidly good burrito with fresh ingredients and generous portions.

I always get the Puebla Burrito: a flour tortilla filled with stewed chicken, rice, beans and sour cream topped with mole sauce and melted cheese. Kick it up a notch with their red sauce. While the chicken is tender, it doesn't have the most flavor of the meal. That lies with their mole sauce. This comes in at $9.25 after tax. It's a mess, so be prepared to eat this with a knife and a fork (and several napkins).

Don't forget to add chips and salsa for an additional $3.50!

  5. This your typical no frills restaurant.    The specials are posted on the wall and you place your order at the counter.  They have about four tables.  I came here not expecting much but a change in scenario.  But I was surprisingly satisfy and impressed with their food.  I ordered the chili bomb Burrito off their wall of specials (see picture).  Definitely, satisfy and warrant a future visit.

  6. Large portions that taste good at a very very reasonable price is right  up my alley! I ordered through the Yelp App for my job, about 9 people, we were given a delivery time of 45 to 60 mins..well the food arrived in 25! I wouldnt say the food is mindblowing, but it was good and very afforadble.

  7. Lunchtime at this place is NO JOKE!  And because of a large lunch order, it took twenty minutes to get my two steak tacos.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Tip 1: Go for the burritos.  I will next time.  I love tacos and one of my dreams in life is to go to Mexico City after dieting for two weeks and eat nothing but tacos.  Knowing tacos, these were not super authentic tacos.  On the bigger side with guacamole, they were good but not authentic.

Tip 2: Check the specials board.  Had I checked, I probably would have gone with the chicken in pipian sauce which is served with rice and beans ANd was only $1 more.

Super authentic Mexican, it's not.  Decent food? Yes.

  8. Happened into this place when my dining companion and I were out and about looking for a reasonable space to eat.  She was buying based on my doing some technical work for her and I am never one to refuse the offer of free food (I guess this mindset comes from my starving musician days).  Anyway, after getting sticker shock at a place down on 9th Avenue that had $22 guacamole we aimlessly wandered until she ran into a friend who suggested this place.  I was game.

Anyway, in a sense this place is a walk in and get out kind of joint but they do have a couple of small tables off to the side.  I ordered some kind of beef burrito and a side of nachos with guacamole.  The burrito itself was nice at best but I had much better and for similar pricing but I did finish it.  The nachos were not appealing to me at all and perhaps this particular order had the last of a batch of guacamole because it was not sitting right with me.  I barely dug into it before I wanted no more.  The staff was friendly enough and my Yelp ranking is more of an even 2.5 than a two because it was not awful but just not enough for me to give it the "3 – A-OK" rating.  Perhaps I was there on an off night but I am not sure I will drop back in here since there are so many other places I like within a five minute walk.  If I give it another chance and find the experience much different from this one I shall surely append my Yelp.
