  1. Definitely a tasty option if you're in NJ, but it's in a shady area of town. 3.5 stars but I'd round down to 3 for location.

I've never had Colombian food, but I found it to be pretty tasty. The place is small but they have bar seating if you don't want to wait for a tiny table.

Our waiter brought out a basket with a roll of cheese bread that was fantastic–cheesy, warm, and pillowy soft. We ordered a couple empanadas, the mini paisa for my friend, and the carne a la plancha with a cheese covered arepas (too lazy to finish the Spanish spelling.) I also had a coffee that came served with milk and a maracuya fruit juice "with water." Not my favorite, but still good.

We both liked our meals. I liked that the steak was thin but it wasn't anything special. The arepas was a bit too crunchy for my taste…I would've preferred a softer texture, but that's probably how it's supposed to be. The empanadas were tasty and stuffed with a tender meat filling. The green sauce at the table was flavorful but not spicy.

Her plate was way too much food…rice, beans, an egg, sausage, steak, arepas, and a quarter of an avocado. Not much of a "mini" plate. But for $10 it was quite a deal. We finished with the flan, which was pretty good.

Our server was a major sweetheart. I don't have anything to compare to for this cuisine, but I'd eat it again. Seems pretty authentic as we were the only ones speaking English in the entire place.

  2. Felt like we just went to Columbia and back in an hour.
The entire place was filled with locals (for the nighborhood anyway).  Came around 11am and there was a long line already.  For me it was good since it gave us a chance to see what other people ordered and start eyeing what I want.  That's much better than reading their non english menu.
We got seated at the bar.  The waiter was super helpful, explaining the different dishes I pointed to him.
My hubby got the steak and arepas (corn pancakes).  Yummy!!!  I am not a big fan of the arepas… next time I'll get the rice and beans.
Also got the tripe soup – an acquired taste for sure but for mine to keep.
I think i've had better cofe con leche… next time I'll try their hot chocolate since it seems like everyone ordered it.
There is a muni parking lot just across the street.

  3. Oh my goodness this place is so good. It's a small little bakery and restaurant that serves the most amazing Colombian bread and delicacies. The arepas con queso are homemade and delicious and the cafe and milo caliente (hot chocolate) is spot on. Their main dishes are very flavorful and good too. The only downside to this place is that it's usually packed on the weekends and there isn't much space to accommodate a crowd but it's no surprise that it's a hopping place.

Prices are very fair and I don't think you will be disappointed in coming here.

  4. Viva las paisas! This is THE place to get authentic Colombian cafe food. If you can finish the Bandeja Paisa, more power to you. I get the mini Paisa, and it is still enough to bring home leftovers. The baked goods are great. Best bunuelos, empanadas, chorizo, Colombian coffee..  The staff is quick and friendly. it's always busy. We brought home a picada for New Years Eve with friends. That was a great idea (credit Wifey). multiple types of potato, chirozo, plantains, yuca, etc… great platter to share with friends while bringing in the new year. If you want to experience Colombia in New Jersey, step into this place for a meal…

  5. After having tried Pandebono in several different shops in both NYC and New Jersey, I've decided at least for now Brisas has my absolute favorite out of the lot.  They manage to achieve the perfect balance of a crisp outer texture and soft inside with the wonderful salty cheesiness you want in the treat on the inside.  I'd eat here any day of the week!

  6. I have been here a few times before, only for takeout, very good baked goods!
My fiance and I came early Saturday morning, this place was packed, line out the door packed – that's always a good sign. The entry can be a little confusing, due to the take out counter and the hot food display with all of the empanadas, sausages and arepas is right there as well. We asked a couple of people if they were waiting to sit down and then reached the person who was waiting to sit down; at that time a waiter/host came by and took our name and said it would be about a 5 min wait, cool!
We were seated at the very front by the window, small space but cozy, and you get to watch all the people come in and ogle the hot food display! Our waiter came quickly, and brought some warm Pandebono (cheesebread) I love this stuff, I have had it at other Colombian bakeries, but Brisas is the BEST! He began to ask us if we spoke Spanish, fiance – no, myself – yes, it was a funny moment, he never gets asked if he knows how to speak Spanish! Our waiter was one of the most upbeat and friendly waiters we have ever had, he was genuinely happy to be there, he made our breakfast that much more memorable!
Starters cappuccino and cafe con leche, both smooth and good, perfect with the Pandebono
I ordered two eggs sunny side up (cooked perfectly, no slime whatsoever, I usually order over medium to avoid that) I also ordered chicarrones ( deep fried pork belly goodness) it came with potatoes, but I ordered a rice as well. My fiance ordered the Scrambled eggs with ham, it came with rice and potatoes. Everything was amazing, cooked well and not overly salted. Each table has a couple of home made hot sauces, both delicious.
We ordered some empanadas, pan de bono and "salami" (it tasted and looked like keilbasa) to go, we also ordered a couple of shakes " Jugo de Vida" it was good, not sweetened, had all kinds of ground up chia and flax seeds in it.
Prices are very reasonable, nothing on the breakfast menu was over $10, all the menu items seemed to be in the $12-14 range.
The waiter told us in about a month they will be opening up a restaurant next door, and this will remain a cafe and take out. Awesome, we can't wait to try that out – maybe we will be the first to review!

  7. As we walked to the entrance a lady hassled us to give us a dollar.  Not the best neighborhood to hang out.

When I asked for another spoon, I got the nastiest facial expression from the cashier. Service was fast. Baked goods are fresh.

1 mango yogurt, 1 orange juice, 1 tiramisu and 1 cheese pastry -$12
Plenty of seating and tables inside.

Food was overall yummy and that's why they get a 2 star.

  8. Every time I'm craving colombian food there's no a place like this one to have the most tasty colombian nutrients 🙂
