Wasabi Sushi
“I like them for the fact that they're only $10 and instead of the usual yucky green salad, they give you kani salad.”
“One of my favorite dishes on their menu is of course the fried ice cream!!”
“I have to say, if you are going to this place, you must get the baked oysters or you're just a horrible person.”

The seating service was quick. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual with dim lighting. It's not very roomy and the seating is usually best if it's in groups of 4 or below. The sushi quality is alright. There weren't a lot of sushi choices. The baked oysters here are good. The noodles they have are pretty good too. The have flavor and is well seasoned.
I came with my family and we took 7 seats. They had to move other individual tables to make a big table for us which was very good customer service. However, every time a staff walks by with plates of food, my family and I are always worried they will spill, drop, or touch our belongings accidentally, ultimately dirtying it. It was very tight spaced. The aisle in which the staff walks down is kinda narrow too. The food service was a little slow. The food took a while to come.
A few years later, I'm giving this place another shot. I had the uni tempura, uni maki, sashimi special, botan ebi, and uni sushi. Their uni's pretty good and it was unique to see it served in cooked method compared to the usual uni nigiri I'm used to. Botan ebi was fresh and pretty big, it was topped with fish roe. The sashimi special included tako, tuna, salmon, surf clam, white tuna, yellowtail, and fluke. All the fish was pretty fresh especially the tako. The uni tempura was okay but I think I prefer it in nigiri formed, still creamy though. The uni maki was okay the uni was blended in the rice and it seemed like it melted in to the sushi.
For the grand finale, I had both of their best selling cake, the green tea crepe cake and green forest cake. I laughed when I saw the crepes were labeled as thousand layer. I met the owner of Lady M and it's confirmed that it's only 20 layers. I commend Wasabi on trying to oversell these cakes. I do question how long these cakes have been sitting here, there's no longer that signature powdered matcha on top.. The green forest cake was almost as good as the lady M cake, it wasn't overly sweet but the green tea flavor was lacking. I noticed a wrapper was on the green forest cake and I asked the server and they said it was delivered to them that way. Apparently they get their green forest cake from panya.
As a true sushi lover, I would stick to raw dishes rather than the cooked ones. The sashimi special is definitely a bang for buck, the uni is worth trying as well.
I love Lady M's mille crepe cakes, and Wasabi allows me to fulfill my cravings without having to make a trip into the city.
I've been here several times to get the cakes to go, and while waiting at the sushi bar I noticed some seriously delicious looking sushi being made and served. Their prices seemed really fair as well when I glanced over the menu, so I made a note to try their sushi one of these days.
Having already memorized half the menu from my previous visits here, I ordered right away – the sashimi special. The selection was pretty standard: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, surf clam, white tuna and octopus. Naturally, I ended the meal with a slice of green tea mille crepe from Lady M.
While nothing was particularly outstanding, Wasabi is a reliable spot for decent and affordably priced sushi. I give them 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 for the awesome cake!
Not sure what took me so long to try out this place. Maybe it was because I used to be a fan of Chikurin and didn't give this place a chance. Well I love Wasabi now, so that's all it matters.
I came here for lunch with a friend to catch up before work and we both enjoyed it very well. I'm not sure as to how to describe the interior of this place but I just liked sitting in my booth chatting and eating away. It was a very comfortable feeling.
I tried my favorites, fried shu mai (I like it with mayo) and baked oysters. They were made to my liking and I'm glad to find a local spot that offers these items on the menu. I'm skeptical on trying raw food from joints like these but I went for it anyways. It was surprisingly good. If a place like this offers decent uni then I choose to assume the rest of their menu is fresh and good too. (That's just my little theory because I order uni everywhere I go.)
Overall, nice and affordable lunch spot.
This place is a bit overshadowed by Sake, which is just a few stores down, but this place deserves some recognition in its own right.
Yes, it's not as cheap as Sake, but this is a different type of sushi place. This place is much quieter and less crazy, which depending on your mood that day, can make all the difference.
The service here is good and the sushi is just as fresh if not more fresh than a lot of other places in Bensonhurst.
If the wait for Sake is too long, give Wasabi a try.
Great quality in sushi, but their AYCE isn't really worth it. $25pp (which is $8 more than their counterpart Sake just a few doors down), but they don't give you any options for appetizers. It is literally only sushi and rolls. Also, they don't offer any specialty rolls on the AYCE menu, it is very plain Jane. Even my regularly beloved dragon rolls were off limits on the AYCE menu.
Decor is sweet and simple, very chill environment. They were packed when we arrived at 8:30pm, but many people had left by the time we were seated at 9:00pm.
Service is mostly friendly once they seat you, but they can be a bit rough at the door.
This sushi place is nasty! The first time I ate here was a few years ago and the sushi took forever to come and the food didn't even taste fresh. I ended up not eating it. Now I tried it again like three or four months ago and I got eel cucumber roll, Alaskan roll and some sushi pieces. The food tasted horrible and didn't look so good. I took one tiny taste and couldn't do it. I will never come back here ever!!!
Also they are way over priced!
I had the sushi and sashimi for 2 and it was delicious. It came with california and eel avocado rolls. The fish was very fresh. It is one of the better sushi establishments on 86th street. They do have an all you can eat menu but I believe the price is now $25, more expensive than others close by. I always liked Wasabi for their quality.
