Narita Japanese Cuisine
“They offer the maki combos where you get to pick out of a list and for 3 rolls during lunch it's 12-13 dollars!”
“You can also sit at the sushi bar and they have a tatami seating area.”
“We've tried other sushi places in the area, like Sushi Yasu which was literally right by our old place, but they just don't compare to the quality food, service, and environment here.”

This is my go to spot for sushi in Forest Hills. Always fresh sushi and good service. Prices are reasonable and sushi is traditional. I have been here probably over 30 times.
Thirty five years for a restaurant to be in business typically means one of two things. One: Amazing food and top notch service. Two: They own the building.
Narita us not #1 and probably not #2, so an undiscovered answer still looms.
My guess is that Sushi and Hibachi were new to Forest Hills back in the mid 90's and the culinary theme carried through a desire by patrons long enough to remain a staple on the Austin Street dining scene.
The two deluxe platters contained roughly thirteen pieces of sushi and sashimi each, which equates to approximately $2.00 a piece. Not worth it at all in comparison to what that some amount of money buys you outside of Forest Hills. So I inquired if there was a platter for two, thereby possibly increasing the individual sushi count which would cost about the same, roughly $50.00. The look of confusion had me off the subject rapidly as I was in no mood to attempt an explanation. Large sake was too hot, not large by market standards and a pungent taste of liquid burnt rice lingered far too long, but did the job.
Relitavely empty was the dining area, we were seated with my friends back to the Hibachi grill. My mischievous mind decided not to warn him about the flammable oil dousing the metal just over his right shoulder. The heat and illumination of the ignited flame spun him around like a top, but in bad form by the grill pyrotechnic to use so much oil.
The Miso Soup was good enough to add another half star to this 2 star dining experience.
I've been going to Narita's for years since it's one of the only Japanese restaurants in my neighborhood. The food is good, but nothing too spectacular. I recently went for their lunch special and got the pork katsu bento box. The pork was good, but the California roll that came with the set was subpar. However, the set was really inexpensive (less than $10,) so you can't really expect that much. I've had their shrimp tempura for dinner before, and that dish is really good and came with a lot of huge shrimp tempura pieces. I'll definitely return again in the future, but it's a 3 star place.
Prices were reasonable, check.
Nice outdoor seating, check.
Excellent service by the attentive staff, check.
Pretty decent/good/fresh sushi, check.
The rolls were delicious. I've had better spider roll, but I'm very particular when it comes to the batter on my soft shell crabs. The verdict is I'll be back for sure, seeing that I'm a sushi fiend why wouldn't I.
FYI this is a better spot for groups, or if you're planning to take a date because it is more formal and bigger space. Also this spot doesn't close at 3pm: the place is popping at night (someone should really update the hours).
The sushi here is just okay. Back in the day there weren't as many options when it came to Japanese restaurants in the area, but I always thought this place was overpriced for the quality. There is definitely better sushi in the area now, so I'd wouldn't recommend it; though I've never tried hibachi so I can't comment about that.
My husband and his family dined here before. This is a nice modern-style Japanese restaurant. It's not traditional in terms of food selection; however, they have some nice bento boxes to choose from. I ordered a bento box (the one without the tempura) and had a pretty good dinner. I hardly order a bento box at a Japanese restaurant because I'm a hard core sashimi eater. My bento box came out pretty good. Overall the food was OK. They have 2 hibachi tables, small sushi bar and quite a big seating place. The seating is comfortable, cushion chairs, good for my mother-in-law (although I know she doesn't care) *:) From our table I could hear the "sound of the knives," the chef's getting ready to serve you better *;) I'd go back to this place if we happen to be in the neighborhood.
This is the best place ever for Japanese restaurant in Forest Hill area.
The food is amazing, plus the warmest hospitality shown by the owner, Stephanie.
She treated me like coming to her house and made didn't want to leave
The food? Words can describe it.. The simple dish such as Sishito Peppers is grilled right with great taste.
The Sishamo Fish? Full of flavor and caviar.
Shall I keep going on… The hamachi.. Tender and melted in my mouth.
The fresh sashimi that bounce in your mouth.. Oolala.. I know what is called foodgasm now
I liked this place and I would come back again!
Service was great (loved getting hot towels upon being seated). Good variety in the menu for all the different sushi rolls, the food was great, and I just thoroughly enjoyed the experience and atmosphere.
