First timer tonight. I was immediately waited on by a friendly bartender at the bar. And she made amazing margaritas, even a spicy one.
I had a veggie taco. It tasted good and I actually never eat veggie:) Only complaint, not major though, is that the tortilla got soggy towards the end because of the hot sauce u put on it and it goes to the bottom when you eat it. But it's not major because their hot sauce was just spicy enough….even for a hot head like me. And maybe that is an incentive to eat the tacos faster? They are that good after all.
The place is spacious for as no frills as it is. And it's decorated cool too.
Go on Tuesday and get $5 margaritas all day
I loved the tacos and the queso fundido. Ambience is great, staff was cool and had original and down to earth personalities. I didn't feel a bad vibe as described…I guess you get what you give..show respect and you will be treated with respect.
Thank you Karla:)
Bland "mexican" food made for hipsters/tourists. I had high hopes but was disappointed. I wish I could say something better because I really wanted to like this place. Surly, unfriendly young person mixing drinks and taking orders. I noticed they took a Tacombi-esque route with the decor and self service which is fine, but the end result is impersonal and blah. This place also needs to be a lot cleaner. Not acceptable given the enormous array of very good Mexican food in NYC and Brooklyn in general. If you're going to add to an already crowded market then add something outstanding.
Everything. Literally everything I've put in my mouth since I sat down has been AMAZING folks. Really great flavor on the chips and salsa. Then they brought out the bucket of margarita and I felt safe. Safe that somewhere in the world, where margaritas are grown from baby margarita plants (there is no such thing but don't tell me you wouldn't be trying to suck leaves in a field if it were). It was strong enough that I felt like one is enough so for the bartender with no edit button…thank you for the night of sleep ahead. Then the tacos came out and I knew that the gods of karma were shining down on me. FLAVOR for days!!! I have a new addiction folks and it is LA Lupe.
I ate here recently. I've lived in Bushwick for years, and always try to make it out to support new business owners, and hopefully find a really awesome spot. I realize that yelp can both help and harm a business, and I appreciate that the owner seems to really care about their business by responding personally to the reviews. Which is why I give them three stars. But jesus lady, you aren't going to grow your business by replying with sarcastic and nasty messages to people who didn't even really give it terrible reviews, just constructive criticism. That's what yelp is for. Just stop reading them. I will not go into detail on my meal there other than to say I was totally willing to return to have drinks or something, maybe a taco, but the owner has been so defensive and unwelcoming with her responses that I don't feel like I need to go back to see if it'll get better. Eleven restaurants opened in Bushwick last month. Of them, only one is berating their customers….
La Lupe is a great no frills taquería. It's the kind of place you can order juicy tacos, hefty burritos and some Mexican beer to wash it all down. Or a spicy margarita if you like to get saucy! It's not a fancy place, nor should it be. When the weather is warm there's even a little outdoor patio in the back where you can enjoy your tacos in style. I'd recommend the carnitas taco and the fish taco to start, and if you're anything like me, the horchata porter for dessert. Yum!
Maybe I am a pretentious yelper that things she knows everything about good food.
I just really do not desire to come back to this place.
Why come back here when the chips suck?
The tacos were okay, but I would rather go downstairs to the taco place under the apartment.
A really cute little hidden gem near the Myrtle-Broadway stop that I stumbled upon when my boyfriend and I needed a quick place to eat dinner and were in the mood for tacos. I had heard that this place had incredible burritos and had been meaning to try it out for a while, so we did. It's super close to the train and in a great area for other bars and things to do.
I had a pollo burrito and it was amazing. It was really tightly and nicely wrapped (a pet peeve of mine is when they are loose and falling apart) and I absolutely loved that the cheese was extremely melted inside, because I don't like a clump of dry cheese in my burrito. The portions of all the ingredients were also great (another big pet peeve of mine) and you didn't have an overwhelming amount of your scream or guacamole like you do at most other places. It also wasn't secretly or overly spicy.
My boyfriend had el pastor and carnitas tacos. I tried the el pastor and loved it because it was covered in pineapple in just the right amount, and he liked them, but said that they weren't hot enough, his only complaint. I didn't find that with my burrito, so the 5-star rating stays.
I've been on the search for the perfect burrito and I've finally found it. Never again will I frequent that nasty taco truck on Wyckoff.
