Blockheads

“It's a really good place to have lunch with you friends on a sunny afternoon on the patio around happy hour talking about good times.”

“And their drinks are cheap and guaranteed to get you nice, I can personally always go for the bulldogs.”

“Though it's somewhat costly for a burrito joint, it was good and i'm sure i'll be back, esp bc it's near my place.”

  1. I am a blockheads regular and I feel like I'm at home whenever I arrive. I always go for a classic bulldog which is a margarita and upside down beer in the glass as a garnish and a chicken burrito. They have new Blockheads popping up throughout NYC.. I love the one on 50th because of the outdoor seating but I also appreciate this location because it isn't as busy. I notice that they made the burritos a bit smaller which is good because I didn't know a lot of people that could finish a whole one in one seating in the first place. Blockheads is a great family and friends style Mexican restaurant with a fun vibrate feel. No matter on the time and day whenever you arrive you feel like it's a weekend. I've always loved this place and I know I always will!

  2. Time here was excellent. Rollled in about 3pm Sat afternoon. Wasn't alot of people inside so seating was instant. Greeted by a pleasent gentelman that was friendly and took good care of us throughout the stay. We got our usual chips and guac, was delicious. Washed that down with a very strong but delicious bulldog, followed by a steak burrito. Burritos did seem a little on the skimpy side in regards to the meat portions in comparison to the other blockheads throughout the city but it is what it is. Other than that atmosphere was great service was ok as well as food. Will return. 3 stars because the burritos have gotten smaller and didn't really wow me.

  3. Heaviest meal during my MealPass experience so far. The super veganator burrito is actually quite flavorful, and has a bunch of ingredients that are allegedly good for you – quinoa, spinach, mushroom, bell pepper in a whole wheat tortilla. There's also vegan cheese which is ok but doesn't melt as nicely. I might be tripping but I thought I tasted some potatoes in there too. Comes with chipotle mayo which defeats any veganism. Free chips are sealed in a pyramid bag and pair well with their salsa.

  4. A favorite go to for college students at Baruch. When I was in college anyway. In a nutshell, it is your typically decorated authentic looking Mexican place, with strong inexpensive margaritas, coronitas, all the tequila you could want on offer. You can get large margarita too so you can be wasted in no time if that is your goal. They have amazing food if you know what to get. My go to was always the chicken quesadilla and burrito. Always large portions, and always delicious. I have never once had a bad meal here in the about 45 times I have eaten here over 3 years.

On the weekends they used to run a brunch here where for one price you could get unlimited mimosas as well as a choice of a menu item from their special brunch menu. It was a great deal. I have not been here recently to check if they are still on it-but if you stop in make sure to ask if it is still happening. Same types of food options but unlimited alcohol also, there really is no better deal then that in nyc for brunch.

My favorite server no longer works at this location because he moved to the other one uptown, however I have never had bad service here. When it is busy the servers can get a bit weird about you lingering at tables (especially if there's a wait) but that is to be expected. If you come for lunch during the week you will never have this problem. Also if you come here on big drinking holidays such as cinco de mayo expect it to be packed, don't be angry and write bad reviews because you didn't plan ahead.

Overall one of my favorite mexican spots in nyc. I have been a loyal fan for about 5 years and will continue to go unless I am otherwise disapointed!

  5. Everytime I come here the food tastes phenomenal! Jimmy Fallon voice, "So good guys, SO GOOD!"

Their list of burritos will satisfy everyone! I usually get the chicken which is soft, or the steak which is flavorful and juicy. The burrito is HUGE btw. You can also get naked (wait don't take off your clothes!) style, where they serve it without the tortilla wrap – lose the carbs lose the belly!

Their guac and salsa are delicious.

Now let's get to the best part.. $2 mini margaritas, only available during lunch. The flavored ones (coconut, raspberry, etc.) are okay but the classic one with a lime wedge is fantastic 🙂

  6. classy isnt a word i would use to describe this restaurant or myself, so dont take your ex wife here if youre trying to convince her youve changed and youre willing to do whatever it takes to win her back. $3 margaritas? dont hafta tell me twice. im there! FYI… had my cellular device stolen from this location, so bring your burner phone.

  7. Came to blockheads last night for dinner. The restaurant is pretty cramped, very dim, and very loud. But that could just be because we were seated in the back.

The free chips and salsa were good, and they refill them too. For my entree I ordered the southwest chicken burrito. It was HUGE. Like probably 1.5 times the size of a chipotle burrito. I liked how packed with veggies and meat the burrito was. Partway through it though, I just started feeling sick. I don't know if it's because I put too much hot sauce on it or the chips, but it was weird because food pretty much NEVER makes my stomach upset. This time, though, I felt sicker each time I ate more of the burrito.

Kind of disappointing. The food itself tasted decent, but something was off. Also, the price of the food was quite expensive. I expected burritos to be under $11 or so, but they were all $12-$15 even for vegetarian ones. For the food and experience you get, blockheads to me is more a place for the 3AM munchies (if only it were cheaper), not really a place I would recommend for dinner.

I hear their margs are amazing though, so I'd come back to try those.

  8. Went here a little while ago. Service was fine.

I had beef picadillo stuffed burrito. The Mac and Cheese and other things in there gave it an interesting texture. I wouldn't call the flavors superb but it was fine.

I tried the jerk chicken from someone else and the flavor was not super strong. I much preferred the former.
