If you are looking for sushi in Midtown at lunchtime, I would say the maki lunch box at Hakata Grill is your best option. At $11, not only do you get two spicy rolls with HUGE pieces of fish in them but three sides. The Kimchee is almost too spicy to eat but the spicy potatoes, the seaweed salad and the spinach with peanut sauce are good alternatives if spicy isn't your thing.
Order early. If you order at 1pm on seamless web, you could be looking at an estimated delivery time of 45-60 minutes.
When I saw that they had ramen on the menu, I assumed that it meant soup. Imagine my surprise when I got a container of noodles in my delivery bag. Crazy.
It would have been disappointing were the food not very good. The best comparison was that it was something like Japanese lo-mein. Maybe they have lo-mein in Japan, but I always associate it with China. But I digress…
I got the pork ramen, and the best thing about it were the onions. I love onions, and this had two kinds, red and white. The reds were crunchier than the white, which was cool. Double the onion texture is awesome. The pork was tasty as well. Small pieces, but flavorful.
The reason that this is three stars instead of four is that a plate of noodles shouldn't cost more than nine bucks. Well, I guess they could, but these were not nine dollar noodles. They were seven dollar noodles. Ones which I'll probably order again. But next time I won't expect broth.
Also, they have something on the menu called "Fish Taco Party". Just throwing it out there. Judge this however you'd like.
solid 3.5 stars for the 4-star food.
this review only applies to their delivery. May revise after I sit in 🙂
THere are many Japanese restaurants in New York for sure. HOWEVER, not every "Japanese" place have ODEN STEWS! AND YAKATORI!
Oden stew is bascially fish cakes/radish/tofu stewed in a very flavorful broth for hours, so that all the juice got suck up by even the firmest tofu.
Next time when I dine in, will have more to come on their ambiance and service.
But foodies be on the watch! you should NOT miss Hakata Grill!
