I used to be a frequent customer here, but that was literally years ago before they changed management and everything (I assume….). The restaurant has ample amt of space and a party room to accommodate big groups of people, but that's really the only pro about this place.
The prices of the food has shot up significantly, but I can't say the same about the quality of the food. If you were came here for AYCE, I suggest you order more sashimi, because they actually cut the pieces and half and they skimp out on your orders sometimes. But then again, you can always order more after, but that's a hassle.
I came here the other night with a friend and ordered a salmon roll and an uni sushi. The uni had to be the worst piece of uni I've ever tasted; it did not taste fresh at all! Actually tasted pretty old and disgusting to me….I couldn't finish it. Not sure if it was just bad timing for me and they didn't have fresh uni, but I don't think I'm ever gonna order that from here again. The salmon roll wasn't bad; I really don't think you can mess up salmon rolls, but the salmon tasted pretty fresh which definitely salvaged my meal. My friend ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box, but they only gave her the entree. The chicken teriyaki was definitely not worth it at all! It seemed as if they took a plain chicken breast and drizzled some teriyaki sauce sloppily over it. It was not marinaded well (if it was even marinaded at all) nor was the presentation pleasant at all.
Don't get me started on the service here. The service here is ridiculously slow. It took them forever to seat us, but there was a lot of vacant seating in the restaurant. And it seemed as if their staff noticed us waiting, but didn't bother to acknowledge us at all. I understand if there are other tables and customers to tend, but a bit of acknowledgement would have been nice. It also took a while to place our orders too, but it seemed as if service was much faster when we were trying to get the bill to pay -___-
3.5 rating. Doesn't deserve 4 stars but doesn't deserve 3 stars either. I came here Monday alittle before 3pm and opted for the AYCE buffet. Reviews said service is slow but since we didn't come at a busy time, that wasn't a problem for us.
Pros: Salmon sashimi tasted very fresh as well as the white tuna and red clams (high recommended if you're a sashimi type of person.) Ambiance is just about right and the store is designed nicely. The floor tiles are pretty cool also. Servers were very attentive.
Cons: They cut sashimi pieces in half and they skip out on some orders if they think you can't finish it (so you get what you order..kindanotreally.) It's understandable because sometimes when you're hungry you over order and end up not finishing it. The wasabi was also not fresh. I thought it was mixing well but I found a rock hard wasabi piece in my dipping sauce..kinda gross.. but whatever. Also, the price for dinner acye is around $33 a person so if you're looking to save money I suggest you find something cheaper.

^you'll probably need it cuz signal sucks lol
I come here often with friends and family since I really like their sushi and their good deals. I typically order the 3 sushi/hand rolls for $12 combo of Eel Avocado, Spicy Tuna crunch and Yellowtail scallion. I also love their seaweed salad and always order that because it's a good appetizer to share. I have yet to try the sushi buffet because typically the $12 combo and a few appetizers fill me up just fine. On the weekends it's best to call ahead to reserve seating. I've been here with 3 people and sometimes with over 5 people and we all enjoyed our time.
Service – above average in speed and attentiveness. Our waiters always know what to recommend when we're not sure what to eat.
Ambiance – average loudness, good place to have a quiet night with a few friends or enjoy a big meal with several friends.
Quality – above average in food. I've been to other restaurants with "better" sushi, but I really enjoy coming to River because of their prices and their sushi is consistently good priced and good quality.
Overall, you'll see me here ordering for lunch or grabbing dinner often 😛
If it were not for their unlimited sushi buffet there is absolutely no reason to come here. The quality of the fish, the attitude of the staff are all areas to be improved upon.
The prices have gone up in recent years but the quality of the food remains the same.
Come here only if you have a large group of guys who are starving and willing to look over all the other crap.
Also, had a few friends who worked here in the past. They can attest to the poor ownership. The problem always lies at the head.
And expect service charge to be added on top of your bill regardless of your party size. This is especially funny how they have the nerve to ask for additional tip when they were barely hospitable.
Sashimi and cooked food was okay but the rest of the rolls had so much of the tempura crunch that made it hard to eat it all. It also made every roll taste the same. We also had to flag down the waiter two times to refill our teas. And there still half an hour until closing but they were already sweeping and mopping right next to where we were sitting. I've been to their other location and it's much better than this location.
Too much rice and cucumber in the sushi. They definitely want to fill you up for the AYCE. Do sashimi all the way. When you do AYCE you still want to enjoy the sushi they have to offer. There's barely any fish in it.
so my boyfriend and i usually go to the river on springfield but since we were in flushing, we decided to come to this one.
this is the 2nd time we came to the one in flushing.
the acye menu was recently updated since we were here back in like june? of this year.
the new appetizers are REALLY REALLY good. (their old ones are still really good! )
we always get their baked mussels, stuffed clams, quail with bacon *the quail is super yummy*, kani salad, seaweed salad, eggplant, etc.
we tried the new items; squid on a stick, purple potato tempura, potato shrimp, lobster salad and the bamboo rice box.
squid on a stick was very flavorful. my bf really liked it .
purple potato tempura = really nice color to it and wasnt oily at all!!
potato shrimp= thin strips on potato wrapped in deep fried shrimp= YUMMY; not oily
bamboo rice box = super cute and there were a lot of dried shrimp steamed with rice; very flavorful.
lobster salad = pretty ok. im pretty sure they dont give you real lobster but the texture of the "lobster" meat is pretty real so i cant tell lol; they add some melon to give it some flavor with mayo. not bad.
we were on a double date so we ordered A LOT of food lol.
the appetizers came fairly quickly after we sat down.
the waiters/ waitress' were pretty tentative on refilling our waters. we didnt have to ever ask.
we legit ordered like 20 rolls plus sashimi and the rolls/sashimi came in a timely manner. they didnt bring out ALL of the rolls at once. they staggered it smartly.
it was pretty packed for a friday night and even though the other reviews say that the waiters/waitress' werent that nice, we felt that they were pretty polite.
i personally dont eat sashimi but the bf and our friends said it was really good .
after all those rolls, we still tried to order a couple of appetizers cause it was so good.
for desert, we ordered red bean, vanilla, green tea ice cream, fried oreos and fruit 🙂
YUM IN MY TUM!!
we would def come back again!!!
The food isn't too bad for an all you can eat sushi place. My friends and I normally load up on the sashimi and hand rolls. Get the special rolls if you are with a larger group of people or people that have bottomless pits for stomachs. Appetizers are worth trying, fried Oreos are pretty good too!
