Late lunch/early dinner at El Charrito Paisa in Elizabeth yesterday.
We loved it.
My husband and I were in Jersey Gardens and left because the crowds were horrid. He wanted lunch & I suggested we go into Elizabeth. I'd been there a couple of weeks ago for a meeting and saw that a lot of the restaurants looked pretty good.
We stopped here, didn't see any reviews, but the menu looked good. The food is a mix of Colombian and Mexican. The waitress who greeted us only spoke Spanish and was going to go get someone who spoke English, but my husband assured her he spoke Spanish.
I ordered homemade lemonade and the chicharron appetizer. For my meal I ordered the Mixto skewer, which was pork, chicken and beef. The large chunks of meat were lightly seasoned with a sweet sauce, but it was very good. Not cloying.
My husband had specialty tacos, with cheese, beef, onion and avocado. He also had a fresh berry shake.
We ordered a side of maduros and they were truly delicious.
The food was really good, the atmosphere was very nice. Service was great, she kept checking to make sure we were ok and double-checked that we (especially me) understood what we were ordering. The other waitstaff did speak English and all signage was in English, but Lance was happy to use his Spanish.
Total bill was 28.50.
The online menu doesn't appear to be complete. There's much more of a variety in the restaurant.
