  1. This place has the coolest vibe considering the area. I met a friend here for a drink on a Friday around 6 o'clock, the place was completely dead. But this was a good thing, because then we were able to experience the service properly. We had a few people taking care of us, all of whom were very attentive and sincere. Upon entering the establishment our coats were taken to be hung, giving the place an upscale feel. We were seated at this small table with large leather bound chairs you may find in a library or old school cigar gentleman's club or speakeasy—-which is exactly what you think of when looking around. My friend and I speculated if there was an actual smoking room in the back but alas it was just a very posh bathroom. One wall is lined with a diverse array of malts, wines, liquors and other assortments the opposite side was alcoves for larger parties, complete with curtains to be pulled aside or draped. The entire place is very dim perfect for date night or a business meeting. I really wanted to curl up with a book and people watch while drinking wine this place was that relaxing. The walls are richly decorated with a simplistic feel of old world elegance and a dash of mobster spunk.

Ordering our drinks were fun because of the large selection and kitschy names. Here's the best part, they make your drinks in front of you with all fresh ingredients. They wheel out the drink cart and start getting down to business with mixing, pouring, smashing, and measuring. I ordered the Bootlegger (illegal Anejo Mezcal, Fresh Jalapeno, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Nectar), if you are not a fan of a smokier tequila like beverage don't order this it will be too much for you in taste. The drink was well made, fresh and heavy on the flavors with a kick.

Next we order munchies and I say this because we ordered a few things just to try a variety of items. We ordered the lamb empanadas which were served in a patent leather saddle shoe (black and white style)—again conjuring up an image of an underground mob scene complete with money laundering. This place I swear is the coolest. We also ordered the Kobe Sliders( 2 per order) that came with a side of fries (so tasty). Both orders came in a timely manner and extremely fresh.
I also ordered the Queen Elizabeth (Infused Watermelon liqueur, fresh lime, garnished with mint) which was amazing. It is served with sugar cane that tastes like candy.

Overall this place is such a gem in the area it is located. If you have business to discuss or just want to take your honey our for a drink definitely check this place out. It was getting busier as we were leaving so maybe we just got there too early.

Side note: I've heard that they occasionally have a live musical entertainment. Can't wait to go back on a busier night!

  2. This is the last place i expected to see inside a strip mall in the middle of woodbridge nj. You walk through the tinted doors and you are transported to a high end nyc cocktail lounge.

First off, it is pricey but if you are looking to spend a few bucks it is worth it here. Definitely try the sliders they are out of bounds. Best thing we ate. The lamb lollipops are also good.

The tuna tartare was fresh and flavorful as well. I can literally name everything on the menu bc it was all delicious.

Next time i will try a cocktail but this place definitely hits the mark for 5 stars.

  3. The theme of our girls night out was "grown and sexy" and Le Malt Lounge fit the description perfectly! Set on the corner of a strip mall in Colonia, this slightly hidden gem was well worth the search. This place boasts a large array of spirits to choose from and rightfully so. They have a 20+ page menu filled with an enormous selection of bourbons, whiskeys, cognacs, scotch, and so much more. The menu also includes a few tapas and entrees which we certainly took advantage of. The staff was super friendly, the waiters make your drinks tableside and are knowledgeable enough to make terrific recommendations for those of us that want to try something new but can't choose from all the goodies on the menu. The decor in this place is transformative taking you back to vintage style speak easy with couches and lounge chairs all throughtout. Needless to say, I will definitely be returning!

  4. I have got to give this place 5 full stars. Was looking for a place that was semi-local for me for an anniversary dinner, and stumbled across Le Malt. I'm so glad we came here! It was perfect for us because of my love for food, and my boyfriend's love for scotch, as they have an extensive scotch and whiskey menu.

We chose to get a bunch of tapas dishes, because it appealed to us more than the entrees, but I will definitely have to come back for the entrees. Started with a complimentary little beets and goat cheese app which was full of flavor and zest. My two standout dishes though were the foie gras and the scallops– these are absolutely must orders!!! Scallops were cooked absolutely perfectly. I really felt inspired in my own cooking through eating some of these dishes. Veggie empanadas were really good too (recommended by the waitress to get over the lamb ones).

In addition, the atmosphere is so nice and elegant– you can't find much of this in central jersey. A beautiful booth, a beautiful place with couches, good food, and good drinks. Also, they come around with a cocktail cart to make your drinks and show you what goes into it. Fun!!

I could've done without the pork belly sliders because it turned out a little tough, but the flavor was still on point. Also, the lamb lollipops were slightly overcooked for me, but the pineapple salsa paired really nicely.

Everything was made with love and packed with a variety of subtle flavors that I appreciated. Really liked this place and the atmosphere just topped it all off. AND THEY SERVE FOOD IN SHOES!!! Thanks yelp for helping me find a great place, and thanks Le Malt for a memorable anniversary dinner!

  5. WOW, Other reviewers are correct in saying this type of experience is hard to find outside of NYC.  Once our coats had been checked we were seated on a leather couch with two small end tables between us and another couch.  Once we settled in we took a moment to enjoy the decor which was very cool.  Two walls were lined with the bottles of various spirits available.  The other two walls were lined with private booths or private rooms.  The artistic chandelier and the carpeting were also something to enjoy looking at and added to the atmosphere.
We came to celebrate and knew it would be pricey, but this is well worth it.  For Tapas we ordered the Scallops ( 4 for $14) and the Lamb Empanadas ( 4 for $12) and both were excellent.  The scallops served on what could only be described as a potato chip melted in your mouth.  Seriously awesome.

For drinks I explored the Tequila menu while my husband took a look at the extensive Scotch and Whisky list.  Prices start around $12 and go up from there per glass.  There is a great variety here and a fantastic opportunity to enjoy something you have wanted to try.  The bottle is brought to your table-side and poured in front of you, a nice touch we both appreciated. Our second drinks were both house specialties, I had the Prohibition $14,  and the Husband Boardwalk Empire $14.  Both were brought over on a rolling cart and prepared in front of us, the waiter even took time to explain the steps as he was making the drinks, really cool.

Service here is a bit on the slow side which is truly what you want here.  You are here to enjoy and experience the environment, fantastic food, great drinks, and of course the great company. My only complaint is that our waiter completely disappeared toward the end of our stay. If the waiter had come by again we would have ordered two more plates and drinks, but he seemed to be focusing on a larger group of customers that came in after us and he never came back to us. After sitting there for 10-15 minutes with empty drinks and plates, we flagged down someone else to get our check.

Overall though, this was a great experience and a great place for a special night out or celebration.

  6. Superb!! Manhattan style lounge in an unassuming NJ strip mall. Every detail here was spot on. From the decor to the service everything was impeccable.

Mixed drinks are made table side in an impressive show. We opted for tapas and everything was delicious.

Prices match the atmosphere but to have a place like this close to home was worth every penny.

We loved that we never at any moment felt rushed. Definitely recommend a reservation of you plan on going during the weekend.

  7. Mother of God!

How the hell did I not find this place sooner. If you like whiskey, or any good libation for that matter, this is the place for you.

Very cool ambiance with a lounge feel. They have an unbelievable selection of drinks mostly centered around whiskey but also including wine, cocktails, and some select craft beers. It's a whiskey drinkers dream.

Be prepared to drop some cash but you can navigate the menu without breaking the bank. They had some great, less famous, options for $12-$18 a pour. They also have some very rare options that you can try by the glass which can be a cool way to try them without having the shell out thousands on a bottle.

They serve food as well which was all very tasty. We stuck to some of the small plates but they do have full entrees as well.

I tried a few of the Japanese whisky options which I had not tried before. Try the nikka takatsuru if you tend to like Scottish whisky, it is one of the best I've had period and opened my eyes to Japanese whisky.

That's the best thing about le malt, you can try so many that you would never buy a full bottle to really find what you like and don't like.

My friend and I were so impressed we decided that we had to come once a month and work our way through the menu. It's gonna be a great hobby!

My one criticism which is why I didn't go for the 5th star in my review was the consistency of the pours. We had 3 drinks each and every one had a different pour. We drink our whiskey neat so you can tell when you're short poured. In one pour I had almost two fingers and then on another I had like half a finger. I was trying to see if it was a strategy to short pour the more expensive versus the less expensive but I really think it was just the server. My friend and I ended with the same drink that the server recommended and he had at least two fingers while I had barely one. A little consistency goes a long way especially when you shell out $25 a $30 a glass.

Definitely give it a look – I can't wait to come back!

  8. I honestly ALWAYS enjoy coming here for the wine tasting events. It's so baller its $65pp tax and gratuity included and valet! It's beautiful inside so posh they come around with 6 courses its really good too they change it up shrimp, lamb chops, chicken fingers and you choose a main entree of fish, chicken or a veg. The ambience is great and the people are super nice!! My husband and I love it you taste about 6-7 wines and it's a decent pour not just a mini tasting! As soon as you enter they give you the first one for example champagne or a white wine. Def go online and look up the next wine tasting I promise you won't regret it!
