Bella Luna
“It is challenging finding catering from a good restaurant on the UWS which is not over-priced and that still provides high quality food.”
“We just stumbled onto it but I can't remember what we were doing on the Upper West Side at that hour except that maybe we were walking in Central Park.”
“We had tomatoes and mozzarella, incredible fried calamari and a delicious hot appetizer plate!!”

Open just shy of 30 years, Bella Luna has survived through some of the worst ("recent") economic crises of NYC. This alone should tell you something.
The food is great, the service is excellent and the ambiance is warm and inviting. It does not hurt that the portions are large and the bill won't leave a hole in your pocket.
I have been coming here for 29 years and plan on coming for 29 more. Anything on the menu is worth ordering. My favorite is an appetizer- the calamri (among the best I have eaten).
Oh Jingle Bella Luna and Merry Christmas. What can I say about you but that you were one of our favorite dining experiences during our stay in NYC. We just stumbled onto it but I can't remember what we were doing on the Upper West Side at that hour except that maybe we were walking in Central Park. No matter. If I lived in the city, no matter where I was I would probably be willing to travel for you.
It's very important for any restaurant to make a good first impression and Bella Luna succeeded because the host was very friendly and was willing to accommodate our request for window seating. We were concerned that it might be too cold doing that because of past experience but not this time. Our seat was perfect – warm. One thing about East Coast establishments that I find different than in Portland is that most of them are willing to turn up the heat when it's cold out. There is nothing more annoying than trying to eat your dinner while your teeth are chattering. Decor is very nice and conducive to a great romantic dinner with the one you love.
It's not on the online menu but I had a striped bass that was absolutely delicious. It practically fell apart and was cooked to perfection. Paired with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio and I was one happy camper. Jerry said the wine also went very nicely with his chocolate ice cream.
Now, I'm a stickler for good service and Bella Luna hit the mark. Our server introduced himself as Timothy and he knew what he was doing. He was very gracious when my partner jokingly gave him a hard time about what makes a great Caesar. Take all of his attributes as a server and pair that with the fact that he was fun to look at and well, it can't get much better than that. LOL! He even agreed after dinner to take a picture with us.
When in NYC, take my advise. If you have to go out of your way to eat here, just do it. I don't think you'll regret it.
What a nice little place I stumbled upon. They have a really nice menu, with some good happy hour and food specials. They have some smaller plates and lower prices with littler portions, but I find that really appealing. The penne a la vodka that i had was incredible and I added some shrimp, which was a good idea. They had all of your classic Italian favorites, with some twists and unique dishes as well. The service was great. Everyone working from the bartenders to the waiter was really friendly and helpful, recommending things on the menu and letting us know of their specials, etc.
The restaurant has a decent amount of seating and a nice outdoor space to eat, when it's not so cold. They also have delicious bread that comes with every meal, something I could easily fill up on and that they keep refilling. They also had some cheap wine specials that were really nice and not crappy wine, but really nice wine. I would definitely be back and highly recommend checking this place out if you are looking for good Italian food in the area.
A solid New York italian restaurant. The sausage and egg plant parm were great!
Skip the dissents, they suck
I came here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a very quick bite, and that's what I got. I was glad the service was so quick, but my server wasn't the most friendly. Prices for the lunch specials were good, and my prosciutto and cheese panini was very good, the side of fries were acceptable and the 2 for 1 bloody Mary special was great. They came out to $4 each. Which is a great deal. If I lived around here, I would return.
I was in area and found this place on yelp. Let me begin by saying it is pretty cheap, all of entrees and even the wine. The food is decent. Nothing to rave about. I ordered tagliatelle bolognese and my boyfriend had fettuccine alfredo. They were both good. The service was mediocre. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.
Another great meal from start to finish! Nicely prepared food and super affordable prices. Good service and cute dining room. I just wish I lived closer to make more frequent trips. I am just sad to report that Candice no longer works here. I really miss her. She was the best bar tender!
Made reservations via Open Table on Sunday night. Our waiter was extremely attentive to us and recommended several dishes such as the smoked trout and my pesto pasta. Both were great. Very chill and quiet setting I will be back.
