  1. As the only Japanese restaurant in City Island, I was interested in checking it out. In May my family and I chose to dine at OHANA. I guess the staff wasn't ready so we hung out in the bar area and pounded a cold one before we were seated.

Shortly after the first round we migrated into the main room where there are many hibachi-style/teppanyaki tables. We met our chef and were ready to be entertained. Our loud and loquacious chef had a strange sense of humor; he made a lot of sexual comments (to me and my cousins) but they were pretty funny. The cooking "show" was fun to watch. I will say that the Benihana chefs are better. We were pleased with our dinners (we mostly ordered steak, some ordered shrimp).

Usually I like to mention that it's someone's birthday in order to snag a complimentary dessert. Although it was no one's birthday that night we got two! Oh yes, we are despicable, but we got two free cheesecakes! They were practically frozen, though.

We were all pleased; unfortunately the obnoxious chef was the best part.

  2. Valet parking is a great bonus to this restaurant.  The food was just ok.  I ordered the steak & chicken hibachi and the steak was very fatty – several pieces were inedible.  The pieces that weren't too fatty were perfectly cooked, though.  The chicken was nothing special.

The entertainment level really depends on your cook (or whatever the proper name for a hibachi dude is).  Ours was so-so but the table next to ours got a real show!!!

The waitress was often absent, or we had to ask for things only for her to disappear for a while.

It's still a good time but I've had better hibachi experiences.

  3. Had a celebration held in one of their party rooms. Guest were on time. Theme was in affect. Drinks were excellent.  Staff catering to everything.  Food was excellent.  Definitely coming back.

  4. Note: This review is based solely on the bar/lounge portion of the restaurant. Hooray for being 21!

Came in here around 10:30 on a Saturday night after riding the bus and debating whether or not to have a drink at Seafood City or finding something different.

Now, I've been dying to go to a lounge for the longest, but haven't found a place without high-maintenance staff and insipid door policies (whoops, my shoes can't qualify as stilts and my company isn't 45 years old).

Outside of Ohana, music echoed onto the street, so I figured, why not give it a try?

Ohana's lounge is absolutely stunning. Comfortable couches and low tables complement a dim, purplish lighting and simple Asian-style decor. There are TVs above the bar, while a live DJ was playing in the back. There was a little bit of space between tables for mingling.

The drink menu is varied and eclectic, but I opted for a appletini (I'm such a girl, I know). The drink was pretty big, beautifully arranged and with the right amount of strength. I wasn't toast, but I was pleasantly buzzed.

The DJ was amazing, as well. He played a danceable and exciting mix of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B. Kind of reminded me of my junior high prom, only, you know, without the BS.

Overall, a great place for a night out; I had an amazing time. My only complaint is that the lounge area could have been more packed, but the moderate amount of couples was just fine.

Brotip: They put a huge apple chunk on the appletinis. Eat your nutrition.

  5. I went here for my 25th birthday dinner with my girlfriends back in November 2011. We had a GREAT time, the food was great and the drinks were tasty. I can't speak on  the price because my girlfriends treated me. They had free valet which was nice. Also, even though we were almost an hour late for our reservation they still accommodated us. The waiter sang all our favorite songs (E.G Rihanna, "Whats my Name") while he cooked for us, just an all over great time.
