Its been a while since Ive been transported into a food coma..Normally I hate the feeling but this time it was different. I started with the complimentary tortilla chips and pico de gallo which normally I'd just pick at, but the pico was so delicious I almost finished the basket by myself(i left 3 or 4 chips..so i wouldnt look too greedy) I also had a michelada(not on the menu, but Jose the server was only too happy to make one)
I chose the Chuleta de Puerco with Tamarind glaze….and it was phenomenal!!! I absolutely adore a good pork chop and this is one of the best…seasoned perfectly, then fried, then glazed with the sauce…..omg….I left two small bones on my plate..that was all, and i would have had the bones too, but I like the idea of having teeth 🙂 The pork chop came with a salad, tortillas, and rice and beans which were good, but the pork is the star here!!
As if that wasnt enough I had the flan and coffee for dessert, the flan is very rich and not too sweet, the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
I do agree with the other yelpers everything here is made with love and they seem to take pride in everything they serve. The service is great, Jose is very sweet and accomodating. Prices are extremely reasonable, and they take credit cards (visa and mc) which is a big plus, most places on Roosevelt ave don't. They do have a large back patio, which would be perfect to have a summer get together, but dont wait till then, go now…and enjoy your food coma.
OK food. Been here twice. It could really use a little something, just leaves you craving more flavor. I will say that the burritos are huge – like big pillows. The shrimp burrito was great – large, succulent shrimp and plenty of 'em. The rice was a bit bland, could have used some flavor.
I can't attest to the meat here, only had the shrimp and vegetarian dishes. Their menu doesn't really have many vegetarian options – you have to subtract the meat for a lot of things. And they charged me the same when I asked for the nachos w/o chicken or steak which I didn't think was really fair.
Overall, service is good. Nice staff. I like the little store that's connected to the restaurant, they have some groceries and baked goods.
Came in with a GroupOn. I pass it often, it's not too far from my house. First of all, the deal was amazing ($9 for guac and 6 tacos). Servers were nice, food was both cheap and good (one of my favorites! lol). I will def come back to try other things on the menu.
Very good service and yummy food!
Solid Mexican takeout. Unfortunately they have a tendency to screw up the order pretty often. Luckily, most everything is good anyway. Oh, and make sure you get a tamale, they make a great mole one.
Yelp reviews seemed mixed so i decided to check it out myself. It's a small restaurant that seats about 30 ppl. Clean and feels like home.
Two things to comment – SERVICE and FOOD. There was a waitress and a waiter – the waitress gave us menus but never came back to us to get our order 🙁 Later, she just put down our dishes on table and didn't care to say anything. She made me feel either I was unwelcomed or she dislikes her job :
Thankfully, waiter was fantastic (he took our order), always responsive and considerate by doing things so simple like asking whether we'd like sour cream, hot sauce, etc. In the end he asked us, "How was your meal? Did you like it ok?" We can tell he genuinely cared about restaurant and its customers.
FOOD We ordered tacos, fried tilapia, shrimp fajita, tortilla tomato soup. Our food took almost AN HOUR to get to our table at which my bf joked, "I think they went to catch the fish just to make your fried tilapia!" Tacos were okay. Tilapia was an entire fish about a foot long (w bones in it) looking perfectly in tact except it is fried and crispy on outside. It lacked any sort of flavor. Shrimp fajita was overdone, smelled burnt and peppers on plate were so burnt they were not edible. DON'T order them!
Soup was a disaster, too. It has little to no flavor but too much tortilla that it soaked up soup and became a bowl of soggy tortillas.. *sigh*
My advice is keep your orders as simple as possible. Order tacos, sandwiches, burritos and sodas – those cannot go wrong. A star to good waiter, to neat interior and to okay food for prices charged.
