Cafe De La Esquina

“Beautiful outdoor area, the friendliest staff (and I mean so warm, helpful & chatty, really make the place), and delicious food and cocktails.”

“It had a classic diner feel with an old jute box in the corner and old music playing.”

“I still love La Superior for cheap, fast tacos but La Esquina is nice for a sit down dinner especially now the weather is gorgeous.”

  1. It is a great location and they have a nice outdoor area.  The staff was very nice and helpful.  The drinks were strong and delicious.  I thought the food was really good and not over priced.  I had the pork tacos and they were a good size with really good spice added to them.  We also shared the water melon salad which was really good.  Not sure why the bad reports on the food and price.  It's a restaurant in a very expensive neighborhood.  It's not the corner Mexican truck.

  2. One of the closest restaurants to my house… food is pretty solid although their portions are on the small side…also service is pretty hit or miss – when it's crowded – expect to wait for service & your meal. The Queso Fundiso is definitely one of my favorite late night snacks though 🙂

  3. This place is adorable – diner chic, but not over trendy. The service was kind and attentive. It was a bit crowded when we got there, and so we sat and ate/drank at the bar, but we were asked a couple of times when tables were clear if we wanted to shift. We had the fish tacos which were good. And the bar stocks my favourite ever tequila (Casa Azul) so that's always a good sign. I'd come back.

  4. 3.5 stars. I have been here about 6 times. The atmosphere is very chill and they have good food and drinks. The prices are definitely reflective of the gentrified neighborhood (aka pricey.) but my heart broke when I was there two weeks ago and was told they no longer offer to queso fundido!  idk how! It was rockin!! The waiter told me a lot of people ask for it, so hopefully it returns by popular demand. But pricey and all, I really enjoy the place and in sure I'll be back. Go check it out! ENJOY!!!

  5. I love trying new restaurants in new areas, so I was definitely looking forward to eating here this past Saturday. The service is so slow, so if you're in a rush go to Mole down the block. The food was very good although my breakfast burrito was not even room temperature but rather it was cold. Regardless, the burrito was very delicious filled with scrambled eggs, chihuahua cheese, potatoes, pablano peppers, salsa, & topped with tomatoes & drizzled crema. I also tried the bistec taco & it was quite delicious because it was very flavorful, especially when you sprinkle the Tejin spice on top that if you request they will bring to your table. The margarita really didn't taste much like a margarita but more like tequila with lime juice. Now, I can drink so it didn't bother me too much but you can't what they are trying to pass off as a margaritas when there was virtually no sour mix whatsoever. Lastly, my friend ordered chicken tacos for her daughter & it was the last meal to be served & not by just a minute but we were almost done eating when they came out but at least they were hot!!

  6. If this review was based on the quality of the food, I'd give it maybe 4 stars. However, I always include service in my reviews, so here we go…

This was my first time at the restaurant and it was just a spare of the moment decision. I was in the mood for some quesadillas (which were pretty average). Once I sat down the waiter asked if I'd mind tap water and then asked if I'd like to start with chips and salsa. I replied yes. I later learned that the chips were not complimentary and if you had guacamole that was an additional $7. However, I never specifically told my waiter I wanted guacamole, but it came with the chips. I decided to complain about this because I felt $15 for chips and guacamole, which I thought was complimentary was a sneaky sales tactic for a restaurant. On the contrary, the food was good and oh! The guacamole IS some of the best shit ever lol. Luckily the manager removed the $7 fee for the guacamole.

The service wasn't that great. The workers were all taking shots and my waiter was damn near wasted. I know ppl like to have fun on the job but seriously don't make it so obvious. The ambience of the restaurant is pretty cool also.

I didn't get to try the drinks but maybe I'll go back one day and do so.

  7. when I review a restaurant, I think of 4 things: restrooms, service and food and ambiance. Well, let's start in reverse order: ambiance is really nice with nice outdoor space and graffiti artwork outside. food was OK but nothing amazing and portions are small. So if you are an always hungry type of person like me, watch out! service is decent but restroom was dark and frankly speaking with no lock in cubicle it looked a bit scary. Overall:
    ambiance 4 stars
    food 3 stars
    service 4 stars
    and restroom 2 stars

  8. This was a nice ans quaint place.  I loved the decor and the Mexican wrestler pictures posted all over. I was impressed with the bar and the selections of Mexican tequilas!!!!

Food was decent a bit pricey for a quick bite before walking around Williamsburg for the day!!!
