There really isn't a lot of awesome Mexican places in Queens Village, so when I noticed Emilio's I was instantly stoked. The outside of the establishment has a rustic feel which doesn't necessarily match the interior but this is a minor hiccup. I wasn't sure what to order but let's be real here you can never go wrong with tacos. I ordered the steak tacos, my favorite spot to get tacos is in Sunnyside. But boy am I happy I found a place with equally good steak tacos. I'll definitely be coming back, next time I'll have a margarita.
Emilios is a fairly new Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood and I had to check it out. First off, there are no Mexican joints in the area so there was a definite need for a spot like this. Also the outside decor is unique and eye catching, especially for people driving by. It's made with wood and "Emilios Mexican Grill Restaurant" is etched along the top. The decor inside, on the other hand, needs more love. It's very basic and doesn't coincide with the outside design.
My visit in was based off my desire for seafood tacos and my need for a drink after a hectic day. I walked in and took a seat at the bar. The place was empty, only one other customer was dining in. The hostess was nice but not informed, she had to keep checking with "the lady in the back" for answers to my questions which was annoying. She also shut my life down when she told me they had no bartender. At 4pm on Saturday, really? I was only able to order beer, wine and/or shots; basically anything that doesnt require mixing because they are still looking for a bartender. Instead of "chucking the deuces", I settled on a shot of Bacardi.
I received some chips complete with three sauces. One green (very spicy), one red (my fav) and pico de gallo. The gesture was nice but some of the chips were stale. I placed my order for two shrimp tacos and one fish with majority of the fixings; onion, cilantro, lettuce, pico de gallo and guac minus the sour cream. The shrimp tacos were good and filled but that salmon taco, I was not a fan. The fish was very bland and was in dire need of some seasoning.
All in all I spent around $15 and the food was decent. I'd hope that with time things would improve and the experience would be a throughly enjoyable one.
