Torigo Japanese Restaurant
“My ultimate favorite would definitely be the 4th of July roll, the absolute best mix of hot spices for my palate.”
“P.S. they just rolled out a new menu that includes a Green Tea Creme Brulee and Black Sesame Mousse for dessert…..”
“All so delicious filled with flavor– it's truly so hard to pick out their specialty.”

Solid Japanese sushi restaurant with impeccable service. I would give 3-4 stars for food as most dishes were good, but I've definitely had it better at other sushi places, but definitely 5 stars for service. Reasonable pricing. Would definitely come back if in the area.
Appetizers: hamachi kama, salmon skin salad, scallop special. Scallops were by far one of my favorite dishes I tried. Hamachi Hama is pretty good and smooth. Salmon skin salad I would skip next time as I didn't think the dressing had enough flavor and might be too salty.
Sushi/sashimi: sashimi deluxe, California uni, toro, seared salmon belly. Fish is fresh and it was tasty but I've definitely had better nigiri at other places. Toro was too fatty to thoroughly enjoy.
Rolls: Fourth of July and stuck up shrimp. Sooo pretty! Great presentation and tasted pretty good too.
Service: One of the best service I've received at restaurants. The waiter was so friendly, helpful and polite. He even asked the sushi chef to cut the sashimi into thinner pieces so that more of our group could enjoy.
(3.5 Stars) I've been here 2 times so far and the food are consistently good. Their servers are nice, but a bit slow. Also I highly suggest whoever is interested in trying it out to make a reservation because it's a pretty small place, so the wait can get ridiculous. The second time we came here with no reservation, we waited for about 45 minutes for a party of 4.
Anyways off to some food recommendations!
Starters: Shrimp tempura, Fried Tofu Fire, and the Hamachi Kama. They are all pretty good.
Sushi: Deluxe Sushi & Sashimi Combo for 2 (very fresh ingredients), Salmon Queen (my favorite roll), and Crunchy Roll — all in all, their sushi is very good here!
Desserts: Fried Ice Cream is delicious here & their green tea ice cream is one of the best green tea ice creams I had before, so it's a must try if you like green tea.
As for the other entrees and bentos, I remember my family ordered it before the first time we came here and I got to try them..they were just okay, very average so I would never order it here considering how expensive it is too. For example the Salmon Teriyaki is $18..totally not worth it especially when it tasted very average. So I would just recommend the starters and the sushi/sashimi.
I would still recommend this place if you're around the area and you're craving some sushi, but otherwise I've been to better places.
Great experience dining at Torigo tonight! I had heard great things about this restaurant from a co resident and it didn't disappoint
We showed up about 45 minutes prior to closing time and they never made us feel rushed. My girlfriend and I started off the dinner with two glasses of wine. She was unsure if she would like the Zinfandel and asked for a sample. Not only did our waitress gladly go grab a sample of the wine for us, she brought it out in this awesome sampling glass (see pic). They were also great size glasses
For dinner we split the July 4th , spicy salmon and salmon avocado rolls. All of them were delicious! Each came with an impressive amount of fish and the rice was delicious! The July 4th was unique and the other specialty rolls looked great too
Overall we had a great time tonight at Torigo and will definitely be back to sample more specialty rolls!
I think I've found my favorite go to Japanese restaurant on long island now. It used to be Kotobuki and Yamaguchi, but this restaurant definitely become number 1 out of the three. The workers there are so pleasant and the interior design of the restaurant was very nice. It gave a traditional Japanese feel to it. We had the tuna tartar which was the best I've had so far. Their spicy salmon roll doesn't look very appetizing, but my it is SO GOOD and you can taste the freshness of their salmon. Their chicken katsu curry over rice was great too. The curry flavor was strong and reminded me of golden curry mix (which I don't mind cuz that's my favorite). The katsu was fried crisply and still juicy which was perfect. We ordered the deluxe sushi and sashimi which was a lot of food haha. Their sashimi quality is still better than the sushi pieces they gave. If I were to go again (which I will), I would just stick with the sashimi!
Their green tea crème brulee was awesome too. Very nice and crispy sugary top like a crème brulee should be. I'm definitely bringing my friends and family over here next time!
My husband and I are big sushi fans. So when we heard there was a reputable sushi joint in Floral Park (of all places), we had to try it.
We came early on a Friday night and the place wasn't too crowded, but after a few minutes, the place was packed. Thankfully we placed our order before it became too hectic. The service was a little unorganized, but I overheard a waitress saying they were down a server. My husband and I ordered sushi, while our kids ordered cooked food. Everything was delicious and the sushi was fresh. We were pleasantly surprised to find their don buri was excellent. We will definitely return to try their omakase, but definitely on a different day when it's not so busy.
This place is by far my favorite lunch place in the area. I heard about the ownership change here and was afraid their taste might change but katsu curry I had still tasted the same as I was here previously.
I think I eat here at least once for lunch every time I am in town. My favorite lunch dish here is katsu curry or katsu don. Price is very reasonable, make it affordable for daily lunch.
Lunch comes with either miso soup or salad. I like to have their salad with lemon dressing. Their lemon dressing is refreshing, feels good for my tummy.
So close to the airport, it seems like I always see Japanese speaking businessman here. I am sure I will be back again next time I am in town
I am happy to have found torigo, hubby and i were craving sushi but there is not a lot of authentic sushi joint in queens to choose from, we came across torigo on yelp which is on longisland but close to where we live so we decided to try it out. This restaurant is japanese owned and the menu is pretty authentic as well. Our waiter is a young japanese man who is very friendly and attentive.
We ordered the ebi shinjo (fried shrimp rice ball), ankimo (monk fish liver) and a bunch of sushi a la carte. The day we went they were out of uni so i was a little disappointed, but I love their ankimo, it has a very strong liver taste than what I am used to so if you are a fan of this dish you will love it. We ordered different sushi ala cart and the highlight is the scallop and the botan shrimp. The botan shrimp is super sweet and they deep fried the shrimp head for you which is just how other authentic places serve this dish. I love the crunchiness and the shrimp head is so flavorful!!
Their fish is very fresh and melts in your mouth, one minor complain is their sushi is really big and their rice is a little bit on the hard side, but it doesnt bother me too much. They have a good selection of beer, sake and wine, i ordered the fuji apple wine which is very interesting, i will try their lychee wine next time.
It seems they serve omakase, I will definitely come back to try it.
I think it's safe to say that I have a healthy obsession with sushi. I think if I had to pick between a sushi or a steak dinner, I think I would go sushi. Overall, I thought my meal here was good, there were a few things that bothered me about the meal, it was a good meal but by no means great. I think the two biggest issues I had were the flavoring of the rice and the temperature of the seafood. I was OK with the texture of the rice but I felt the rice needed more seasoning, I felt the seafood had nobody to pair with. But the biggest issue I had was the temperature of the seafood, everything came out ice cold. I know seafood has to be cold but these things were SO COLD. For the meal, I went with the Omakase which was $75. I say this is solid for Long Island, but doesn't compare to any in the boroughs.
The food:
Ankimo- Monkfish liver. I have had this dish in many restaurants and the version here was great, it was nice and livery, but in a good way. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Ikura fresh wasabi- I am normally not a fan of salmon roe but the one here had really nice flavor. I am not a fan of the salty flavor but the one here was done very well. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Otoro- I normally love Otoro but this was just OK, I felt it was a tad mild in flavor. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Wild prawn with Ceviche- This was one of my fav pieces, I also enjoyed how it was kinda spicy. The prawn had such a wonderful flavor and texture and the head was fried really well. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Ocean Trout with seaweed salt- This was such a pretty piece, Ocean Trout is in the salmon family so I thought it was originally salmon. Overall, I though it was good but a tad mild. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Hokkaido scallop with soy and seaweed paste- Another fav piece, it was so perfect and meaty. The scallop was so crazy fresh and it really felt like I was biting into the ocean. The piece did have a little kick from the wasabi, which was nice. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Madai- We know it as Sea Bream, it was good but too mild. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Kanpachi- aka Amberjack. This piece was good, it was so silky, smooth and velvety, I liked this piece. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Ocean Trout- Wasabi, Avocado and tofu. I loved how fatty and silky the Ocean Trout was, it was also such a pretty piece. The condiments kinda felt lost, I really didn't notice the Wasabi, avocado or the tofu. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Bonito with Scallion and Ginger- This was my least favorite piece, I didn't like the taste nor texture of the Bonito. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Horse mackerel The Japanese call it Aji and normally it's one of my favs, it was pretty good but I was expecting more. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Mackerel Oshizushi- I have seen this before but never tried it, it's sushi pressed into a box shape, it looks pretty but there was so much rice. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Santa Barbara Uni- It was nice and clean, the flavor was great but oddly, the flavor didn't linger. It was just good. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Crab Hand Roll- It was kinda like a Japanese crab taco, you roll it yourself. The roll was nice and meaty but the crab wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Tamago with Shiso- It was just OK. yelp.com/user_local_phot…
Honeydew- The "dessert" was just sliced fruit. I was expecting/wishing it was something different.
