“After being closed for months since Hurricane Sandy, a new shop finally opened up next to Zigolini's. I tried their tacos and margaritas, and they are so delicious!”

“Fidi has its offerings of brisket in certain places but NONE compare or are as good as this, not even from a bbq place.”

  1. This place isn't too bad, it's almost like chipotle or qdoba. I got the pork burrito bowl with their spiced rice. The pork was definitely flavorful, which was my favorite part. Their spicy sauce isn't spicy. But overall, it's quick lunch to get in the area.

  2. I think New Yorkers are especially tough on their reviews for restaurants, of course because there is sooo much fantastic stuff in the city.  Nothing wrong with Guac Star for a quick lunch however.  I like that it is an in-and-out place, there is a nice area to sit outside to eat as well.

Sure, it's basically like Chipotle, but their barbacoa is a bit different and it was a nice change.  Nothing exceptional about it but I like it nonetheless, and it makes for a much better lunch than those chopped salad places.

  3. A pretty good Mexican Joint! Better then Qdoba and Chipotle in my opinion. Pricing and portions are better too. My favorite dish is the brisket rice bowl. Love the flavors and perfect amount of spice. I never tried the guac honestly; but you do have to pay extra for it.

Seating is limited as an FYI and is connected to two other businesses. I would come here more for
    Lunch not dinner.

  4. Guac star? More like NO STARS.
Do yourself a favor and go to Chipotle because the food here is horrible.
Its basically Chipotle but 10x worst.
You can either have a burrito bowl or a burrito. They do offer more meat options like fish but I stuck to chicken. The chicken wasn't horrible, it was slightly tasty. The rice though, was like Chinese fried rice with frozen carrots and peas. How disgusting is that. I don't go to a Mexican restaurant to have a burrito bowl filled with terrible chinese fried rice, and I do not go to a restaurant to eat frozen vegetables.
The salsa was ok, the beans were ok.
Everyone else who ate the burritos or burrito bowls weren't pleased as well.
    I'm never coming back.

  5. This place is not delicious… It tastes like a less saltier version of chipotle. The rice was a bit too dense and the meat had to be chewed multiple times. They didn't give enough cheese or of the spicy salsa that I love. I'm looking for new alternatives of chipotle due to a recent scare on my belly but no luck yet. Sadly I won't be coming back….

  6. Please note, YELP removed my prior review. I believe the owners are scared of real criticism. I am re-posting and taking out the word that connotes "people who can't handle spicy food".

I was pondering between 1 or 2 stars – and realize it must be 1.

I was told that Guac Star is better than Chipotle… So, I finally ate here for lunch. #totalfail.

They have fish, which Chipotle doesn't have so I chose that for my protein. The ingredients were stale and lackluster… and the fish was overcooked, tasteless, dry and reminded me of a sad, dead catch that sat out too long. I started getting nausea while eating and couldn't finish my salad bowl.

The rice was really bad (dense and hard with frozen vegetables inside), the black beans tasted like they were just taken out of a tin can, the hottest salsa was not that spicy – medium at best, and everything else was just off.

Not for my palate, but might be for yours… or the folks next door on Wall St. OH, that makes sense….

  7. The food here is pretty solid — the meats and rices and beans and vegetables and sauces are all done very well, using quality ingredients, with large portions and affordable prices. What really makes me love GuacStar is the dog-friendly outdoor seating on a quiet breezy side-street near the water.

  8. I've only had delivery from Guacstar through Seamless and never had an issue with getting my order quickly.  Some of the dishes are amazing and some are terrible.  I'm still giving 4 stars because their good dishes are that good.

    5 Stars

    1) wings — in a spicy and sweet sauce served with a mexican style blue cheese.  Very unique and delicious.

    2) mexican corn — spicy and a perfect serving size

    4 Stars

Their chicken chimichanga.  It's a huge amount that can easily feed 3 people.
