Have been coming to Yoshi for years. Conveniently located across the train station, this small place packs in customers with sushi at a great price. They have great special rolls for less than $15. I usually get one special roll and ikura (if in season) sashimi and it's just perfect. A $5 spicy tuna roll is a steal. They don't pack on the rice.
I've tried everything from the super tuna roll, out of control roll, jersey, devil, dragons. All delicious. We usually do take out as a family here but occasionally will dine in and it's really a cozy little gem of Woodbridge.
Recently tried out this sushi spot located across from the Woodbridge station. The inside is clean and decorated well. They have an extensive sushi menu. You'll find special rolls, sashimi, combination boats, bento, habachi and others. The prices were reasonable but the service could have been better. For $50worth of sushi I expect to be greater and served with a smile. I think our waiter never offered a smile once nor looked interested in being there. The sushi was warmer than I like it to be also. It was ok, nothing extraordinary.
Considering the fact that we had a group of 17 people and were loud and obnoxious with our sake bombs, they tolerated it all!
Came here for my birthday dinner and brought a handle of sake, beer, and some rum. It's a pretty small restaurant so I'd say my group of 17 occupied half of it. They offered to heat up our sake and also served it to us in sake cups! That was very nice of them.
My friend brought their own coke can, which i think was not allowed after looking at the waiters face but he let it slide by. Brownie points right there.
The food was delicious. They have such a huge variety of sushi it was so hard to pick. After reading reviews, i had to get the house roll, which is probably now my favorite sushi ever. Who would've thought putting banana in sushi is actually good? Also got the dynamite roll. SO GOOD. It was spicy and crunchy and yummy! I liked their all day specials of 2 regular rolls and one special roll for 17 or 20 bucks. FYI they charge extra for spicy mayo. At the end of dinner, our waiter asked us if we wanted a group picture, which I didn't even think of at all. Thank you waiter!
They made the food very quick, maybe cause they wanted us to get the hell out or because they were just really quick. But point is, I'd definitely come back for the house roll!
So this is the thinggg!! I dunno how this place was rated almost 5 stars!!!! The sushi was really good and they had brown rice….The special orange something roll was hands down one of my favorite rolls I've had in the area!!! The service on the other hand was terrible!! We had this guy that seemed so unhappy when I asked him what he would suggest that's spicy he said I dunno spicy salmon….lol he just seemed so displeased to be working there so for service I would give it a 2 star since he poured my sake in a carfe for me the ambience is ok small 25-30 seater restaurant. The lady working there seemed much more on point when they made us the wrong roll she fixed it. So the end question would I go back? Yes. I want to give this place another chance!! It's close to home and the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 is also because our sushi was made quick literally got it in less then 10 minutes!! Not like uyeesushis one hour wait times!!! They do a special any 3 regular rolls $12.99 and if you want a special roll and two regular it's like 17.99 or 21.99 depends what you want! It's a good deal for dinner..
Yoshi's Restaurant is quickly becoming my new go to spot for sushi during my lunch hour. It's not much to look at from the outside and parking is not preferred as their 'lot' is impossible to get out of if there are more than 2 cars, the street can get full during lunch, and the train station lot can be a far walk. But stepping into this place will make you forget about all of that. The food is priced right with lunch specials on the regular. Their sushi is super fresh tasting and is brought out very quickly. This is also one of the few restaurants that is not a chain that I can go to and still be back at work in under an hour. I haven't met Yoshi yet but if you see him, tell him that I'm a fan and I will continue to come back.
Yoshi is a hidden gem in Woodbridge, NJ.
Small, cozy and very tastefully decorated– it's pretty amazing.
I highly recommend their spicy Kani salad– honestly like no other. I've ordered it in other restaurants and I always end up comparing because they never live up to the taste.
Their specialty rolls are pretty good too. I love their mango cucumber roll, which has a perfect tangy flavor; their summer roll is great if you love a combination of a California roll with spicy crab on top.
Their service is pretty awesome too. They're a family owned business and they're very warm and friendly. Their parking space is a little tight and they're located across the Woodbridge train station but I've never had a problem finding a slot.
If you're in the area and have a craving for sushi, this is your best bet. They're also a BYOB so bring in your wine and enjoy!
We picked up on a Monday night. The food was ready right when they said it would be. Other reviewers have mentioned the great service and that you can byob, so I'd love to dine here. The special rolls are AMAZING. I wish I discovered this place earlier. I would have saved myself from a lot of disappointing sushi meals. We are definitely going to become regulars at Yoshi. My husband and I shared the Yimi, Sleeping Beauty, Romantic, Orange Dragon, and Tuna Combo rolls. It's tough to pick our favorites because they were all awesome, but we especially loved the Yimi Roll. It has spicy yellowtail with tiny pieces of apples inside and spicy tuna on top. The crunchy apples really stood out to us, and it added such an unexpectedly delicious punch. I'm already picking out my rolls for next time, which my husband says is not normal.
Definitely the best sushi I've had in a long long time. Very fresh fish, fast service, and the hibachi was way better than most. I had the Negimaki, which was delicious, and chicken hibachi. Generous portions and all fresh ingredients. The pain in the ass roll was spicy but not too hot, could be hotter for my taste. It was my first time, 4.5 stars, if it's consistently this good would bump to 5 stars. Parking is not ideal, but it's a pretty fast meal so people are coming and going.
